221 | Does the Law still stir up sin? | Rom 7:5 | Asis | 84215
As a believer in Christ we only sin when we choose to. James show us the way sin starts is with a thought. The thought is a temptation and 1 Cor. 10:13 (NASB) 13No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. This is a promise of God that through experience has become a reality in my life. I choose God when temptation comes. He has said that any temptation that comes I can handle. Choose God. Paul writes all his letters to the "saints." If his letters are written to me along with the Galatians and the Corinthians I must be one of the saints (beleivers) he is writing to. I have been redeemed. Eph. 1:7 through Eph. 1:10 (NASB) 7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. REDEMPTION: The purchase back of something that had been lost, by the payment of a ransom. The Greek word so rendered is apolutrosis, a word occurring nine times in Scripture, and always with the idea of a ransom or price paid, i.e., redemption by a lutron (see Matt. 20:28; Mark 10:45). There are instances in the LXX. Version of the Old Testament of the use of lutron in man’s relation to man (Lev. 19:20; 25:51; Ex. 21:30; Num. 35:31, 32; Isa. 45:13; Prov. 6:35), and in the same sense of man’s relation to God (Num. 3:49; 18:15). There are many passages in the New Testament which represent Christ’s sufferings under the idea of a ransom or price, and the result thereby secured is a purchase or redemption (Compare Acts 20:28; 1 Cor. 6:19, 20; Gal. 3:13; 4:4, 5; Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14; 1 Tim. 2:5, 6; Titus 2:14; Heb. 9:12; 1 Pet. 1:18, 19; Rev. 5:9). The idea running through all these texts, however various their reference, is that of payment made for our redemption. The debt against us is not viewed as simply canceled, but is fully paid. Christ’s blood or life, which he surrendered for them, is the “ransom” by which the deliverance of his people from the servitude of sin and from its penal consequences is secured. It is the plain doctrine of Scripture that “Christ saves us neither by the mere exercise of power, nor by his doctrine, nor by his example, nor by the moral influence which he exerted, nor by any subjective influence on his people, whether natural or mystical, but as a satisfaction to divine justice, as an expiation for sin, and as a ransom from the curse and authority of the law, thus reconciling us to God by making it consistent with his perfection to exercise mercy toward sinners” (Hodge’s Systematic Theology). Understand that we are not complete until we are in our resurrected bodies. But until then we live in Christ. Oh oh here comes some of that bizarre and wierd stuff . . . In Him I'm Him In Him. |

222 | Legalism? | Rom 7:6 | Asis | 86067
Leagalism is: strict, literal, or excessive conformity to the law or to a religious or moral code (the institutionalized legalism that restricts free choice) (Merriam-Webster). Legalism is when we say if you do it this way it is right, but only this way. It is, "Here are the rules. Do it like this because this is the only way." The Law bound us to the rules. Jesus freed us from the bondage of the Law. Yet we can bring people into bondage by making the law of liberty a set of rules. For instance, we could say if you are not baptized you are not saved. If you don't speak in tongues you are not saved. God will not answer you prayers unless you are on your knees and end it with "In the name of Jesus." If your arms are not strtched to the limit then you have not raised your hands. Et certra, et cetera, etcetera. Rom. 7:6 (NASB) 6But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter. 2 Cor. 3:5 through 2 Cor. 3:6 (NASB) 5Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, 6who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Following the letter of scripture and leaving out the spirit of scripture is legalism. examples are aany of the objections raised by the Pharasees about Jesus doing anything on the sabbath. Matt 12:1-14; Mark 2:23-28; Mark 3:1-6; just to name a few. |

223 | It all comes down to the Word of faith | Rom 10:8 | Asis | 93242
Does this passage mean that the apostle Paul was a word of faith preacher? We must take God's word to be true on Faith. Yet I wonder if we live life as if God's word is true. God has given us ALL Things. However a great many of us live struggling. We are overcomers. Sons and Daughters of God but we live like we are the offspring of the down trodden. We have the access to victory in life, every aspect of life because we have ALL THINGS through Him. ALL THINGS have been made subject to Him and we are in Him. Do we live as one who has dominion over their life? Do we know who we are? Have we died with Christ and now live for God or is there still some of US hanging around doing stuff. Do we believe what God has said He has done or are we determined to do it OUR WAY. Think about it. Are we atuggling to do something that God has already done? How much of the word in the New Testament is written in the past tense or the aorist tense? Let Go and Let God Ref: Rom 8:14,33 Rom 11:36 1 Cor 15:27,28 1 Cor 1:30 Rom 6:6 Gal 2:20 Gal 5:24 Gal 6:14 |

EdB Who are these scripture police who brand a doctine a cult? We better watch out or the Forum might find itself branded PHARASEES. By the way this is what the Title: The Treasury of David, Psalms 1-57 Author: Spurgeon, Charles H. VERSE 6 “But I am a worm, and no man.” This verse is a miracle in language. How could the Lord of glory be brought to such abasement as to be not only lower than the angels, but even lower than men. What a contrast between “I AM” and “I am a worm”! yet such a double nature was found in the person of our Lord Jesus when bleeding on the tree. He felt himself to be comparable to a helpless, powerless, down–trodden worm, passive while crushed, and unnoticed and despised by those who trod upon him. He selects the weakest of creatures, which is all flesh; and becomes, when trodden upon, writhing, quivering flesh, utterly devoid of any might except strength to suffer. This was a true likeness of himself when his body and soul had become a mass of misery—the very essence of agony—in the dying pangs of crucifixion. Man by nature is but a worm; but our Lord puts himself even beneath man, on account of the scorn which was heaped upon him and the weakness which he felt, and therefore he adds, “and no man.” The privileges and blessings which belonged to the fathers he could not obtain while deserted by God, and common acts of humanity were not allowed him, for he was rejected of men; he was outlawed from the society of earth, and shut out from the smile of heaven. How utterly did the Saviour empty himself of all glory, and become of no reputation for our sakes! “A reproach of men”—their common butt and jest; a byword and a proverb unto them: the sport of the rabble, and the scorn of the rulers. Oh the caustic power of reproach, to those who endure it with patience, yet smart under it most painfully! “And despised of the people.” The was against him. The very people who would once have crowned him then contemned him, and they who were benefited by his cures sneered at him in his woes. Sin is worthy of all reproach and contempt, and for this reason Jesus, the Sinbearer, was given up to be thus unworthily and shamefully entreated. Attention: Scripture Police Charles Hadden Spurgeon promoites the doctrine of a cult. Never use any commentaries by him. Cover your eyes and ears. Satire intended. Edb you will be judged by the same criterea you judge. Lighten up. Let the love of Jesus rule and reign in your life. It seems you would have the forum just be scripture with no explanation whatsoever because if God isn't writing the post it is all just opinions and beliefs. EdB what is done is done. We will all stand in judgement of our actions and our words on that day. I do believe that you are sincere in your concern for those who may be led astray from the truth. We must, though, sometimes look at the tone of our writtings. Some view what I wrote as an attack on you, but rather it was an attack on the style of correction than upon you personally. I too must watch my tone. To answer some of the other posts written about me let me remind all of you that the Way was considered a "cult" by the Orthodox religion of Jesus' time. I belong to and adhere to the teachings of the Lord of lords and the King of kings. The Son of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who talks to me through His word and His Spirit who lives in me. I follow the WAY. Whose cult do you belong to? This is not a defence of the undefencable. It is about the way we treat the lost. I mean would we attack the beliefs of the Roman Catholics because they believe in the "deity" of Mary. No. The subject is not taken up and if a question is asked it is handled delicately, with love and compassion. After all there is no biblical foundation for praying to her is there? Do you meet the jehovah's witness at your door with a club and chase them from your property yelling "heritic, heretic"? I talk with them and try to show them where their error is and if they are unwilling to receive what is being given to them I tell then that God loves them good bye. Sometimes our zealousness gets over zealous. You and me. I thank God that we love the one who is important. We are asked to back up all our statements with scripture. Then we then we respond with opinion based on something we heard. There have been a great many posts about the jewishness of Jesus and the beliefs of Jews that are without any foundation but these statements are allowed to go unchallenged. We believe in a Jewish God who sent His Jewish Son to take our place on the Roman cross for our sins so we can be made into new creatures and become Jewish and heirs of the promises given to the father of the Jews, Abraham . We read a Jewish book written by Jewish men and we really no nothing about our heritage. Allowing posts to demean the ancestry of our faith. I am not called to defend the honor and the truth of the Jews but I know more about them because I follow the one true God. Why do I even mention this? Because WE have gotten away from what is important. Showing the world the truth, through out words and our actions. You can take what I have said and do with it what you like. EdB I feel that we have given each other permission, in past posts, to get involved in each others lives. If I have it wrong then tell me. It is unfortunate that sometimes things are written out in the open for others to misinterpret. One last time, my post was to open the eyes of your understanding not attack you personally. If all of you cannot take me as my Lord takes me, Asis, then turn me in and get me thrown off the Forum. Because I too am "DEFENDER OF THE FAITH AND THE TRUTH OF GOD" |

227 | Sanctified or not | Rom 12:2 | Asis | 83775
If being sanctified is being holy or set apart or being in right relationship with God. If it is not, give a better definition. But if it is what I said then am I or am I not? These scriptures seem to say that I am. 1 Peter 1:16 seems to me to a command. The process I was taught in the evangelical church (Quaker)is really the renewing of our mind so we believe God in every way. »Strong’s Help hagiazo, Greek 37, Strong’s hagiazo, hag-ee-ad'-zo; from Greek 40 (hagios); to make holy, i.e. (ceremony) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate :- hallow, be holy, sanctify. Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; [16] Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Acts 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Romans 15:16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor. 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor. 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. Ephes. 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 1 Thes. 4:3-4 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: [4] That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 1 Thes. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thes. 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 1 Tim. 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 2 Tim. 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. Hebrews 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: |

Correction: In the Quaker church I was taught that santification is a process. The process I see in scripture seems to be the renewing of my mind with the outcome that I show what God's Good Acceptable Perfect will is. 229 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | Asis | 89371
Graceful: How does Ephes. 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; [KJV] fit in what you are discussing. We all have a obligation to seek the truth through study of God's word. If we desire to be disciles and not just followers of Christ, it absolutely necessary that we study. I think that the gifts of Jesus, the apostle, the prophet, the evangelist, the pastor and the teacher, are necessary to bring us from follower to disciple. Ephes. 4:12-15 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: [14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; [15] But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: [KJV] Thank you Lord Jesus. 230 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | Asis | 89423
Hello Hank. I hope this note finds you well. There are those who see Jesus and look to Him for what He can do for them. They recognize that He is the Son of God and even believe in their heart that He died for them and rose after three days and now sits at the right hand of the Father but that is as far as it goes. Albiet that is pretty far but it is not what Jesus wants from us. They recognize Him but have no relationship with Him. Jesus did not proclaim the mysteries of God to the followers. He did reveal them to those who are close to Him. Matt. 13:10 through Matt. 13:12 (ASV) 10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. The multitudes followed and heard parables but the disciples heard the deep things of God, even to the extent that some were so hard to grasp that they left Him to walk with Him no more. There is a difference between those who follow Jesus and those who walk with Him. Does this answer your query? Have I made my statement clear? Do you need more detail? Am I off base? Matt. 4:25 (KJV) 25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. Matt. 8:1 (KJV) 1When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Matt. 8:10 (KJV) 10When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. Matt. 12:15 (KJV) 15But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; Matt. 19:27 through Matt. 19:30 (KJV) 27Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. Mark 6:1 (KJV) 1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. John 6:60 through John 6:66 (KJV) 60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Matt. 8:23 (KJV) 23And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. |

231 | True or False | 1 Corinthians | Asis | 102913
True or False To know things in our intuition is what the bible calls revelation. Revelation - The Holy Spirit enables a believer to apprehend a particular matter by indicating the reality of it to his spirit. There is but one kind of knowledge concerning either the Bible or God which is valuable, and that is the truth revealed to our spirit by God’s Spirit. God does not explain Himsself via man’s reasoning; never does man come to know God through rationalization. If there is no revelation, personal revelation, Christianity is worth nothing. Everyone who believes God must have this revelation in his spirit, or else what he believes is not God but mere human wisdom, ideals or words. Such a faith cannot endure the test. 232 | True or False | 1 Corinthians | Asis | 102992
Ray I think you've got it. I look at the word "S"pirit as (God's) and "s"pirit as ours. God has given us His Spirit to indwell us. His Spirit communes with our spirit. His Spirit reveals the thoughts of God, the truths of God to us via our spirit. When God through His Spirit reveals a truth to our spirit we know it is the truth. The mechanism of "we know" is what Nee calls intuition. When Jesus revealed Himself to us "we knew" He was who He said He was. How would you describe the reception of that knowledge. Nee uses the term "intuition" and when you think about it fits. When I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior I KNEW that the Bible was God's word and it was absolutely true. No one has been able to convince me otherwise. I just know. Consider this from The Spiritual Man: . . . What then can man do other than deliver himself into the hands of God for Him to work? His spirit (man's asis) shall remain forever dead unless he confesses that everything pertaining to man is useless and unless he stands in the place of death with the Lord Jesus and accepts His life. Man's way cannot envisage acceptance of the Lord Jesus as Savior and a quickening of his spirit's intuition, but insists on substituting his mind for intuition. He thinks and cogitates until he creates many philosophies, ethics,or religions. But what is God's pronouncement? Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. [KJV] However intensively man may contemplate, his thoughts are earthly and not heavenly. After regeneration, God enables our intuition to know His thought and to apprehend His way so that we may follow HIM. . . (me now) This is what Pauls is saying by the scriptures in Ephrim's post. We cannot understand the ways and thoughts of God until we have the Spirit of God residing in us and allow our spirit to reveal His thoughts and ways to us. We just know - by intuition. Comprende? 234 | Does God think negative thoughts. | 1 Cor 2:16 | Asis | 86254
Thank you for your responses. They were all excellent. They made me think. We have all sat in the dark and thought there was no hope for our situation. We have brought condemnation upon ourselves for what we have done. There may even be some who thought they were unworthy of life. None of us were exempt. Negative thoughts would creep into our mind and turn us away from who we realy were. These are the negative thoughts I was refering to. We were liars, cheats, filled with greed, full of envy, strife, deceit, malice, disobedient to parents, insolent, arrogant, boastful, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful, full of evil (Rom 1;29-32). I will endeavor to be scriptural. I am going through one of the many trials that come upon all of us. Some more intense than others, but we all go through them. As I pondered my situation, ran out the possible scenarios that could occur, I started to see that all was bleek there was no good that was going to happen to me. I thought, "does God look at the world and think as I have thought?" The Spirit of God told me that I have the mind of Christ. I know what God thinks if I would just listen to Him (1 Cor 2:14-16; Ps 46:10). I realized that if I have the mind of Christ I can access the thoughts of Christ. I had to get my thoughts in line with the Word of GOD. What does He have in store for me? He will be with me always no matter what happens. He will be my strength. I will be able to endure anything as long as I lean on Him. I can control my thoughts. I decided to think on these thoughts of God: Rom. 8:5 (KJV) 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Zech. 4:6 (KJV) 6Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts Isa. 43:2 (KJV) 2When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. AMPLIFIED Habakkuk 3:19 The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]! AMPLIFIED Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. [Matt. 12:37.] AMPLIFIED Psalm 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, my Help and my God. AMPLIFIED Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost]. AMPLIFIED Psalm 3:3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. 2 Cor 10:4-6 For the arms of our warfare [are] not fleshly, but powerful according to God to [the] overthrow of strongholds; overthrowing reasonings and every high thing that lifts itself up against the knowledge of God, and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ; and having in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience shall have been fulfilled. And so I know that God doe not think negative thoughts, but only those that lift us up and edify us who are His children. The rest are getting what they deserve. |

Brad and Tim thank you for your answers. They were very helpful. Do you think that the Gifts of the Spirit are for the benefit of the body of Christ? That is my take on 1 Corinthians 12. It seems Jesus is saying that the operation of the Gifts of the Spirit should not be an extraordinary event. 239 | Emmaus, Are hope and charity gifts? | 1 Cor 12:31 | Asis | 79846
Hope is the result of trusting God. Rom. 5:2 through Rom. 5:6 (KJV) 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. So what is hope? We in today's terms look at hope as a wish, "I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow, or I hope I get an A on the test." Biblical "hope" is the greek word elpis- a confident expectation with a sure basis. If we look at the scriptures above we see that hope is a result of truwstin God to see us through the trials and tribulations that come our way. and based on that experience we develop hope. God saw me through the last trial when I leqaned on Him totally to see me through, and God will see me through this time when I lean on Him completely so it is my expectaion on a sure basis HOPE that He will see me through now. Hope is a development in our having our minds renewed by God to His way of thinking and living. Charity as used in the King James version of the Bible is the word love. The way I am to love others as directed in the Bible is an impossibility for me to accomplish in my own ability. 1 Cor. 13:1 through 1 Cor. 13:8 (KJV) 1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. I cannot bring about that kind of love on my own. When God gives instruction He always provide a means to carry out that instruction, and He has in His instruction to love as indicated in the scripture above. It is by the fruit of the Spirit thast we are able to love with the God Kind of love. Live by the Spirit and the Spirit's fruit will show in your live. It is through submission that we allow the Spirit to live through us that His fruit come forth. Not a gift but a result of our surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. |

If you believe God and trust in Him he gives you hope. This is not mentioned in 1 Cor 12. To do anything for God and not have love is to be a clanging cymbal 1 Cor 13:1. The God kind of love given us by the Spirit is not a gift mentioned in 1 Cor 12. However, We do not earn the ability to love others as God loves them. IT IS GIVEN US (a gift if you will) because we desire to please Him and ask for it and give ourselves up for Him. Hope and charity (love) are not gifts of 1 Cor 12.
