Nolan Does the Bible specifically say that God formed only Adam from dust, or that he was the first. Also, are you planning on excommunincating me from this forum for speaking against it, in the same way the Catholic Church excommunicated Martin Luther for also being a heretic? Brian |

Nolan It helps people in their faith by being comfortable asking a question without needing your permission to speak. It allows people to open their minds and their hearts and try to understand. Some questions may be insignificant to you, but to the person asking, it may not be. Your role as a teacher is to guide and assist people, not to dictate to them. That is not a successful method of bringing God to people or allowing people to try to find God - one step at a time. Brian |

Here is another option to consider: Let's look at Genesis in a little bit different order than it is written. After God confronted Cain about his brother, God banished Cain to the Land of Nod (which means Land of Wandering - Nomadic living). Cain was terrified of this punishment and in Genesis 4:14, Cain states that whoever finds me will kill me (whoever as in man, not whatever as in animal). To that, in Genesis 4:15, 15 But the LORD said to him, "Not so[5] ; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him Again, God is protecting Cain from people, not animals. Now, with that understanding that other people did exist in the world, by the time Cain was banished from Eden, is it possible that what Genesis is saying is that Adam and Eve are the first people God made, but not the only people God made. If that is the case, Cain had plenty of opportunity to meet and marry a non-relative. |

Radioman In answer to your question, does it have any bearing on the Trinity, etc. My answer to you is yes, it does. The Bible is a guide for man to learn about God and to help us live our lives, as God wants us to live. The Bible is a living document of Gods love for man. As more people learn the Bible and in turn, learn about Gods love and then, have the desire to live our lives as Jesus has taught us, then every problem you have listed will go away. Sometimes, it starts with a small simple question. But I am thankful that the question is being asked, I am thankful that there are people willing to answer and I am thankful that the one simple question is helping people lives to be guided along the path of God. We have tried to outlaw sin, it doesn't work. The problems you have listed, and many more, will not be changed or eliminated by more man-made laws and politics. But, they will be elimated by one person at a time following God. Jesus taught us that we need to reject sin. As you have rejected these sins because of your faith, so will others. Radioman, continue to trust God and help teach others to reject sin, answer each of their questions and help guide others to God. By the way, I listed a really good theory on Cains wife, do you want to hear it? |

There may be merit to your answer. Let's look at Genesis in a little bit different order than it is written. 228 | Early church support for Peter as Pope? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 13753
Ed Thank you for your support. I was beginning to feel like Timothy when he wrote: 2 Timothy 4:16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. The thing to remember, is that I did not join this forum to proclaim the Catholic Church, I came for the discussion and dialog on the Bible. However, when attacked I did defend my Church. My continuing goal is not to be in a position in which I need to spend all my time defending the Catholic Church, but to join the discussions. Again, thank you for your leadership role in redirecting the efforts of this forum back to its original intent. |

Hank In reviewing your comments, I agree that the question could have been written better. I think the best way to proceed with this thought is to end this posting and restructure the question and start all over again. Thank you for your feedback. |

Hank I think you are reading more into this than intended. I suggest that maybe if you could re-read the question and also my expanded explanation to vkey, it may help explain theobjective of my question. If you need further clarification, please let me know and I will be happy to assist thanks Brian |

231 | How human-like is God | Exodus | Brian.g | 13647
Thank you for your response. However, I'd like to limit the scope of this discussion specifically to God , the Father and not Jesus, at this time and more on non-physical features. For example: Integrity: God became very angry at the Hebrew people after He freed them from Egypt, and yet He fulfilled His commitment to them for a land of their own. Here, we see God's anger, hurt and other "man-like" features, but then we also see His God-like response in the manner in which He handled these situations. Can you help me expand on this? |

232 | Does anyone really *do* this? | Luke 14:12 | Brian.g | 13546
Norrie How can you discourage someone when you tell us of your victories in feeding hungry children, the homeless and 'bums' eating out of garbage cans. You brought God to these people. I assure you, children will remember being fed when they are hungry and that memory will remain with them for their lifetime. It will influence how they treat and help others. Your victory with these children will continue to reap rewards for years to come, as your good work spreads from these children to other people - and it will. You, and your husband have earned your inheritance. Mathew 25 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? 40 "The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom Norrie, you have lived your life as Jesus taught us. And by your actions, others, who have learned the law given to us through Moses, are now learning the Truth and Grace which we received from Jesus. These are the keys to heaven which you have earned. |

233 | Does anyone really *do* this? | Luke 14:12 | Brian.g | 13485
Norrie I can see how you and your husband suffered distress by your acts of charity and Christianity. However, I feel strongly that you and your husband are the good ones and the people who abused your good works, will be judged by God. You were not wrong for being a Christian. Did you have any victories, where all of this effort truly made a positive difference in someones life? Would you tell me about it? Do you feel the victories outweigh the losses or do you feel the losses are greater? I think your comments to the members of this forum who do not have the courage you and your husband had, may gain the courage to go out among the masses and help people, if they can hear more from you. From history, we know of the many, many early Christians who were killed for following Jesus, including the Christians who were thrown to the lions. 2 Tim 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith Choosing the path of Christ is not always easy, but tell from your experience - do you feel the rewards are there and would you truly have chosen a different course. |

Nolan and Hank You both profess to be men of God and followers of Jesus, and yet you sit there and say, yes I should eat with the poor and someday I may do it. Have you learned nothing from all of your quotations from the Bible. Have you not heard the advise you give to others. 16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" 17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." 18 "Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, "Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself." 20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" 21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Luke 16 13 "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Matthew 23: 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness Romans 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? |

235 | Follow up Peter first Pope | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 13455
Nolan You say you are following the path of Jesus and Him alone. I say that you are following Martin Luthers path of Jesus. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven ML had 95 complaints or disagreements with the Catholic Church which led to him leaving the Church. Which, for all practical purpose was based upon money - indulgences and Church wealth. Was he right? If he was, then the quote that what the Church looses on earth, will also be lost in heaven, applies. The fractionalization of the Church can be viewed as a loss. Luke 11:17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall If the Pope makes a mistake while leading the Church, then people like ML will divide the Church. Wouldn't ML had done a better service to God and to his fellow Catholics if he had continued to try to guide the Church leaders out of selling indulgences and back onto the correct course of serving God. His victories may not have been numerous, but the number of people affected by his efforts would have been incredible. Instead, ML left the Catholic Church and built his own Church based upon two premises, which continue through today - love God and hate Catholics. How can any true Church, which uses hate or distrust as one of its cornerstones, be properly serving God. By the way, in reading the 95 Thesis, ML clearly did not have a disagreement with the leadership role of the Pope, his issues were related to how the Pope used his powers. Again, when a Pope abuses or misuses his powers or authority, it is a loss on earth and in heaven. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. If a single or a string of Popes misuse their authority, does it mean the existence of the Catholic Church is wrong and the leadership role of the Church is wrong, no it does not. It means a single Pope or a string of Popes misused their authority, but in the 2,000 year history of the Catholic Church - I believe more good leaders existed. Now, was ML wiser for dividing the Church instead of working to heal it? |

Yes, I have considered it. But, with Jesus making Himself known to Peter before anyone else after the Resurrection, indicates to me that this is not just an act of forgiveness, it is a final act of Jesus solidifying that His work will continue before He, Jesus, continues to heaven and that the leadership role of Jesus is entrusted to Peter. And, Jesus is getting a final commitment and reassurance from Peter, that Jesus' work will continue. |

Debbie Have you ever heard a parent say to their arguing child: "I'm right, because I'm your father(mother) and I said I'm right, now quit arguing." In any form of government, we need a leader and that leader needs to be able to make a final decision and then everyone can move forward from that point. Just as the parent above, there is a time for discussion and debate, which the Church allows, and then the time comes in which a final decision needs to be made, so the familly can function as one, instead of living in the seperation created by constant arguing and challenging of each other. Someone in a family must be a leader and the other members of the family must accept that person. The acceptance of that person as the leader may be called by some, as submission. Other may call it trust in the leader of the family. Some may accept that persons leadership out fo humility and some may accept that persons leadership and decisions on the basis that they know the leader is only concerned about making the right decision for the good of the family. The Pope is the leader of a Church. The Pope is a man. The Pope is not God. The Pope is a man. When making a decision, we are hopeful that the Pope is seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit, in the same way a congregation is hoping that their Pastor is seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit. In this forum, there has been discussion regarding the responsibility a Bible class teacher has to his/her students. If the teacher is not teaching God's law properly, the teacher is doing a grave injustice to the student, who is relying on this knowledge and guidance to properly serve God. The role of the Church is to insure proper understanding of God's law in order to properly educate its members. Look at all of the different Churches which have been formed by people leaving the Catholic Church and think of all of the time and energy spent fighting the Church as the enemy. The Church is not the enemy, Satan is. Focus your hatred and distaste towards the true enemy and unite with those who are fighting the same enemy as you. Satan is successful in dividing the House of Jesus among itself and keeping everyone's attention on infighting, rather than on him. I realize that the members of this forum are dedicated and commited to God. Would we not have done a better job of serving God if we had taken the 100-200 man hours spent here debating Papal infallibility and instead, spent this time serving God, by reaching out to our fellow man to fight Satan. Aren't we falling into Satans trap of dividing our house to fight each other, instead of fighting Satan. Luke 11: 17-18 17: Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18: If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? Today, we are seeing the birth of a new sin - probably the greatest sin ever tempting man - taking the life of an unborn baby and selling it for a profit to prolong the life of another. Who will join this Catholic in fighting Satan on this sin rather than debating each other on who is the better Christian. Can we unite our house of Christianity to serve God? Is anybody up for a really good fight? - Let me know. |
