Norrie As always, I thank you for your open and honest assistance. I have another question I would hope you can assist me with. Within this thread, one of our fellow forum-members, Hugger, made this statement: When I miss more than two weeks of fellowshipping, I start to shed other things too....like reading the Bible and talking to the Lord, etc. Does this happen to you, also? Thanks, again Brian |

How do you mean your new church operates and functions along scriptural guidelines. In your Sunday celebration, what do you do? Thank you for your feedback Brian |

Hugger Thank you for your personal reflections. I realize you have put a great deal of thought into this, for my benefit. Now, I am going to ask more of you. You said God brought you to this church , just like the last and you have not felt the need to search for another. First, what do you expect from your church. Do you receive this from your current church, and not from the former? Next, what do you bring to the church to help make the church more meaningful in bringing other members, to a closer relationship to Jesus? I apologize for putting you on the spot and if you prefer not to answer, then no explanation is needed. Thank you Brian |

moedee Thank you for your response. And I am happy to see that you have found so much satisfaction and happiness within your assembly. I agree the church is God's people, not the building. Does your church play a role in enhancing your relationship with Jesus? If so, how and how significant is it? Thank you Brian |

Searcher In my question, perhaps I should have used the term: parish, congregation, etc. The intent of my question was focusing on the local community at which we worship. Also, in my question, it doesn't matter if the services are conducted in a storefront, a formal church, or a gymnasium. The intent is the local community. On that basis, would you say your answer would be 1 or 2, or higher? Brian |

Tuli For clarification, the definition of prophecy (prophesy) takes on two distinct meanings, yet they overlap with purpose: the first referring to the Old Testament prophets (prophecy): · The inspired declaration of divine will and purpose. · As the term is used in mystical theology, it applies both to the prophecies of canonical Scripture and to private prophecies. Understood in its strict sense, it means the foreknowledge of future events, though it may sometimes apply to past events of which there no memory, and to present hidden things which cannot be known by the natural light of reason. · Correct/guide the path of the church and her people The second definition (prophesy), which I will refer to as New Testament prophets: · (Prophesy) To give instruction in religious matters, preach · (Preach) To urge acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action. · (Edify) To instruct and improve especially in moral and religious knowledge · (Evangelize) To preach the gospel to and/or to convert to Christianity · Correct/guide the path of the church and her people With that, the Prophets of the Old Testament received Divine Inspiration (knowledge and understanding) directly from God, with the purpose of keeping the people and the church on the correct path toward God. Prophets of the New Testament, serve the same purpose. However the source of our knowledge is from the teachings of Jesus and, our understanding of the teachings of Jesus, is clarified and enhanced with guidance from both, the Holy Spirit and the Church. In Paul’s letters to the Corinthians and Timothy (1 Corinthians 14, 1 Timothy), he spoke of the gift of prophesy whose purpose was to build up the church. Expanding on this, our role, as a prophet of the New Testament has multiple responsibilities, which include: evangelize, preach, edify, moralize, guide, instruct and educate other members of our community. This is conveyed or passed along by our words, as well as by our actions. The focal point of our efforts, as a prophet, is to assist our fellow man towards a stronger, more positive, direct and personal relationship with God through Jesus. And, in order to aid in the first, help effect a fuller understanding as to the true meaning, purpose and ways of the church – as an instrument created by Jesus, with the purpose of guiding man to Jesus. 133 | Correcting the translation | Col 2:16 | Brian.g | 28376
David I have had the pleasure of visiting your web site. Each person serves God in his own way. At times, that way may not be fully understood or appreciated by others and it is important that we not allow pride to get in the way of our service to God. Remember, when we serve God, we are doing so to please only God - you do not need mans approval to serve God. Your service to God with your web site is valuable to many men, and its value will continue to grow with time. Through your efforts, you are assisting other men in their service to God. Matthew 5:37 is also helpful in your discussions with other people. By the way, on your web site you discussed Luke's Theophilus. Theophilus is a Greek word meaning 'friend of God', the word is used both, as a proper name and as a decription. A friend explained to me that Luke used this word in the broad sense that he was addressing Acts and Luke to 'friends of God' and not a specific person, named 'Theophilus'. Brian |

138 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 26210
Emmaus I am a fellow Catholic. I appreciate your enthusiasm on the topic - but, this thread is not about belief in Mary. It is an open discussion as to what people feel is wrong with the Catholic Church. It is important that you give people an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and opinions. Please work with me and end this debate about Mary on this thread. As is each person on this forum, I am your brother in Christ. Brian |

139 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 26105
Ed I wish to thank you for posting this question. On this forum, we have had much discussion of the pro's and con's of the Catholic Church, but all attitudes and comments have been revealed only in bits and pieces. This question has given people the opportunity to clearly state their thoughts and opinions - and I personally have found that to be extremely enlightening. I urge all forum members to contribute your thoughts to this question, posed by Ed, in the constructive manner in which it was posted - and let's see how everything shakes out. This thread is not the place for defensive postioning - but for taking the first step of understanding. Again, Ed - thanks for taking the initiative for posting this valuable question. Brian |

140 | Parable fo the Good Samaritan - Evaluate | NT general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 25853
Joe It was a fine interpretation. Just one question: In your post, you listed the following paragraph: Conclusion: If we consistently treat every human being who crosses our path with the same self-sacrifice and compassion that the Samaritan demonstrated for the victim here, abandoning all thoughts of our own safety, going miles out of our way to render aid, thinking of our own finances as completely inconsequential in the interests of a stranger who has never even spoken to us (and under most circumstances, would have never spoken to us in the first place), and making sure that his/her future needs are taken care of by you personally, then you are fulfilling God's law. Raise your hand if that is your attitude toward every human being who comes across your path... Completely disregarding a mans religious affiliation - if one man, other than Jesus, could truthfully raise his hand (and, I assure you, it wouldn't be me raising my hand): How do you feel God/Jesus would respond to that man? Thank you for an excellent discussion. Brian |
