221 | Gracious Humility | Phil 2:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182641
Greetings Brother! In my opinion, I understand this as two distinct attributes. I don't see the term "Gracious Humility" as a distinct attribute in and of itself. I see them as perfectly complementing each other and indicative of the perfection of our Lord God. I would agree that these are attributes of God. We also have direction to be like Christ (Philippians 2:1-18) and it is our desire as a child of God to be like Christ. As I understand it, this passage of scripture not only teaches us to be humbled but also gracious (Ver 3 and 4). Do you understand "Gracious Humility" to be a single attribute so to speak? 222 | Gracious Humility? | Phil 2:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182606
Greetings Brother! Another passage to consider. Philippians 2:3-8 (NASB95) 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 223 | People in Prosperity/vs in Poverty | John 9:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182603
Greetings bluestar! Jesus disciples ask a question similar to yours. Consider their question and Jesus answer. John 9:1-3 (NASB95) 1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. The reason I offered this scriptures is to point out we need to try to understand these things spiritually and not of the flesh. Trying to reason these things based on our own understanding will, in my opinion never lead us to the truth. I might add that someone being born in a prosperous country is not a guarantee they do not suffer. I do agree that many more do suffer in some parts of the world then others in regards to many things. The fact is, our disobedience to God has caused all of us to suffer. Consider again the scripture passage John 9:1-3 and add to it verse 4. John 9:4 John 9:4 (NASB95) We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. We know our fellow man suffers. Are we doing our part as a child of God? Ephesians 2:10 (NASB95) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. There is much we can do to glorify our Father! 224 | How does grace teach us? | Titus 2:12 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182173
Greetings Brother! Hebrews 12:7-11 is one passage we can look at for consideration. Verse 10 Hebrews 12:10 (NASB95) For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. In regards to your question verse 10 stands out to me as it compares our earthly fathers discipline as something that seemed best to them. In comparison to God's discipline which is for our own good so we may share His holiness. It is truly a gracious God willing to share His holiness with us wouldn't you agree? And He is willing to discipline us to ensure we share in His holiness! Below information was copied from the blueletterbible.com web site Outline of Biblical Usage 1) grace a) that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness: grace of speech 2) good will, loving-kindness, favour a) of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues 3) what is due to grace a) the spiritual condition of one governed by the power of divine grace b) the token or proof of grace, benefit 1) a gift of grace 2) benefit, bounty 4) thanks, (for benefits, services, favours), recompense, reward Interesting question Brother! Our Father truly loves us Amen! By Faith, Steve |

227 | The Book of 1 John | John 3:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 181748
Greetings shing! Pointing to 1 John 3 does not answer the question. This does not negate the scriptures I ask you to consider regarding a believer sinning. When reading 1 John 3 give consideration to these two words as you read it. “abides” and “practices”. I think if you do it should help you understand it better. As you have presented it you appear to be saying this teaches something different then what the verses I pointed out to you does. Consider the scriptures I have pointed out and add to that 1 John 2:1 1 John 2:1 (NASB) 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; Did you happen to read that one when you read the whole book? The scripture clearly reads “…And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father…” Like the other verses I referenced, it is clear from scripture the believer still sins. Again I ask you, what do you do with the scriptures I have pointed out? You point to 1 John 3 but that does not answer the question nor does it put away the clear teaching of the scriptures I referenced. If you think that it does please explain your teaching. Thanks and by the way, thank you again for your blessings. God bless you as well and may He bless us both as we discuss His word. By Faith, Steve |

Greetings Metochoi! You responded to a post from October 2005 and that persons last post was the same month and year. It might be you will not get any response from them. There are many still here and let me say we are glad to have you participating in the Study Bible Forum! I'm sure all will agree as it is a joy to discuss the word of God with all! By the way, I agree with your point! It is interesting that some have a tendency to put restrictions on "Eternity" :-) God bless, Steve |

230 | did satan want to torment them? | Luke 22:31 | humbledbyhisgrace | 181680
Greetings godservant2! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Satan tempted Eve to sin against God (Genesis 3:1-6), so he tried to get Jesus to sin and thus fail in his mission as Messiah (Matthew 4:1-11). The tactics of Satan and his demons are to use lies (John 8:44), deception (Revelation 12:9), murder (Psalms 106:37; John 8:44), and every other kind of destructive activity to attempt to cause people to turn away from God and destroy themselves. Demons will try every tactic to blind people to the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4) and keep them in bondage to things that hinder them from coming to God (Galatians 4:8). They will also try to use temptation, doubt, guilt, fear, confusion, sickness, envy, pride, slander, or any other means possible to hinder a Christian's witness and usefulness. 234 | Mary's virginity remained intact | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 180515
Parable, You said "I'm asking for the biblical basis that this act, committed by a willing Mary and God, is not adultery. Either it is by virtue of the fact the law does not apply to God or what happened was somehow not illicit, sexual or both. " Let me say, I'm a bit concerned by your question especially after you appear to box God in with your previous comments and the way you present your question. Simply understanding only but a couple of things the Lord God clearly teaches us in His word about Himself should be sufficient for helping you to see you couldn't be farther from the truth in assuming such a thing of the Lord God. Exodus 20:14 (NASB95) "You shall not commit adultery". (Clearly from this and other scriptures we see that adultery is a sin). Consider the following scriptures. James 1:13 (NASB95) Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. Leviticus 11:44 (NASB95) 'For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth. Matthew 5:48 (NASB95) "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Deuteronomy 32:3-4 (NASB95) 3 "For I proclaim the name of the LORD; Ascribe greatness to our God! 4 "The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He. 2 Samuel 22:31 (NASB95) "As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tested; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. These are just a sample for you to consider regarding who God is and what His word teaches us about Him. Steve |

235 | what is the wages of sin? | Rom 6:23 | humbledbyhisgrace | 180227
Greetings wisdom111! Great questions! The word of God says the wages of sin is death. See Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. But don’t stop there. Make sure you read the last part of the verse! I say it’s a great question because the word of God teaches us we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). And we all need to know what God’s word says about it. It says we are all sinners and fall short of God’s glory. The wages are the payment that must be paid for sin. It’s true, we are all sinners and God tells us so in His word. Are you ready for the best part? The Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for us (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures Notice in verse 3 it says “…that Christ died for our sins …” and in verse 4 it says “…he was buried, and rose again…” Do you believe you are a sinner? Do you understand and believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that God raised him up again the third day and that the only way we can be saved is through Him? Do you confess Jesus as your Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead? Romans 10:9 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. God bless and thanks for the great question! Steve |

238 | Passages about beleiving in God | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 179671
Hello Denny, Could you clear a few things up please? Part of your post you say "The central theme is faith - not one faith, just faith in general" What do you mean by faith in general? Latter on you go on to say " I'd like to start her off listening to a passage that conveys my main theme (in a Christian context)" I'm curious if you are attempting to compare the Christian's faith in God to anyone's faith in something else. What say you? When you say "I'm looking for a passage saying that one must believe in God before one can expect anything from Him" can you explain what you mean by "expect anything from Him"? Thanks! God bless, Steve |

239 | soaking ,,,in praise and worship | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 179425
Greetings! Taken from the soaking.com web site "WHAT IS SOAKING? " "To "soak" in God's presence is to rest in His love rather than to "strive" in prayer. As the person who is soaking connects with the Holy Spirit (receiving a touch from God begins to connect you with the reality of the Holy Spirit's presence), they often respond by falling or simply lying on the floor. As they rest expectantly waiting in God's presence, the Holy Spirit hovers over them to reveal more of God's love. God will also use these times to renew and repair areas of a person's life." "As the believer soaks God takes control and begins to draw their attention to His word either in the bible or through internal audible impressions or pictures they see in their mind's eye." Based on this information I would say your not going to find scripture to back up the practice. You say you have been taught this, have you ask those that have taught you this for scripture reference. It would be interesting to see the scriptures they use to base this practice on. Here are the scriptures that the soaking.com web site use as reference to say soaking is biblical. Psalm 23:1-3 Psalm 131:2 Psalm 4:4 Psalm 37:7 Matthew 11:28-30 Hebrews 4:9-11 Isaiah 40:29-31 Psalm 27:14 Proverbs 1:33 Luke 10:39 Hosea 2:14 I'm only giving you my opinion here but I would say based on what they offer, well...... NO! scripture does not teach this! If you want to experience God, read His word, Pray to Him, Worship Him, Follow His commandments (Found in His word), find your place in a God fearing Bible teaching church and engage by using the gifts He has given you. God bless, Steve |

240 | The sin offering - why a female lamb? | Lev 4:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 179236
Greetings Apollos! Here is a portion of Ray Steadman's take on it. You can view more information on his sermon here http://www.pbc.org/library/files/html/0505.html "The first distinctive of the sin offering is that it provided for both public and private sin. There were offerings available for those who had sinned as a group, and those who had sinned as individuals. You find this clearly delineated in this chapter. When it was offered for the sin of a group, or a public individual representing a group, then the offering always had to be a male. When it was an individual sin, the animal was a female. Verses 1-3:" And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to the people of Israel, if any one sins unwittingly in any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and he does any one of them, if it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer for the sin which he has committed a young bull without blemish to the LORD for a sin offering." (Lev 4:1-3 RSV) "And, again, in Verses 13-14:" "If the whole congregation of Israel commits a sin unwittingly and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they do any one of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done and are guilty; when the sin which they have committed becomes known, the assembly shall offer a young bull for a sin offering and bring it before the tent of meeting;" (Lev 4:13-14 RSV) "In the case of a ruler or king, the requirement is given in Verses 22-23: " "When a ruler sins, doing unwittingly any one of all the things which the LORD his God has commanded not to be done, and is guilty, if the sin which he has committed is made known to him, he shall bring as his offering a goat, a male without blemish," (Lev 4:22-23 RSV) "But then when the common people sinned as individuals, Verses 27-28:" "If any one of the common people sins unwittingly in doing any one of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and is guilty, when the sin which he has committed is made known to him he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has committed." (Lev 4:27-28 RSV) "In Verse 32 another provision is made:" "If he brings a lamb as his offering for a sin offering, he shall bring a female without blemish," (Lev 4:32 RSV) "So once again the distinction is made between the male, as the symbol of the ruler or the dominant one -- i.e., man in his right to have dominion over all things, as always symbolized by any functionary, any government official (a priest, a ruler, a king, etc.), or the whole group together -- and the female, as the symbol of the common person, the individual acting on his own, who is therefore in a relationship of support, of undergirding or following." God bless, Steve |
