242 | Sin vs Love | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 178641
Greetings NightJay! I believe your heart is in the right place dear brother, but I would encourage you to point to scripture so others might see what the word of God has to say about them. For starters, take a look at these scriptures. Sin actually started with Lucifer( Isaiah 14:12-15). God is Love (1 John 4:7-21) It's best if we use the word of God and not our own opinions. We need to be careful so that we not mislead anyone. God Bless, Steve |

243 | historical Jesus? | John 8:58 | humbledbyhisgrace | 178633
softballqt, You said "I am leaning towards Jesus as being a teacher of secret knowledge... any thoughts?" Perhaps you are leaning in the wrong direction. I'm glad you ask for scripture proof! Start with His birth! Luke 1:34-35 (NASB95) 1:34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" 1:35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. There are many more scriptures that speak to who Jesus is. But for now, based on this scripture, who would you say Jesus is? Steve |

Were they punished for "knowing" good and evil or for disobedience to God? Genesis 2:16-17 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die. Did they even have to know the difference between good and evil to know what the cost would be? |

Verses 1-33. Each one of them are Holy! Each word of each verse is actually from the very God that created the heaven and earth. Is that awesome or what? Study them all, God wanted us to know each one of them! God bless, Steve |

246 | Where did our conscience come from? | Rom 2:15 | humbledbyhisgrace | 177995
Greetings Karrie! I offer this as something else to consider regarding your extended question. Homosexuality goes against the nature established by God. Romans 1:26-27 (NASB95) 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Homosexuality is unnatural Karrie. Regardless of what mankind my say and/or how they try to paint the picture, the Word of God says it is unnatural. Even one who has exchanged the natural for the unnatural function of man and woman can clearly see it is not suppose to be that way. My guess even they buy a left shoe and a right shoe because it's obvious to them the left shoe will not fit the right foot. God Bless, Steve |

247 | Sufism | John 14:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 176040
Greetings Ocelot! I would have to guess your "friend" neither understands what a Christian is nor a sufi. If they did then they would have no trouble understanding they are not compatible. You should not be surprised at the fact a sufi would claim compatibility with Christianity. However, I would encourage you to keep in mind the enemy makes many false claims and spends much of the time trying to deceive. John 14:6 (NASB95) Jesus said* to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. This one scripture alone is enough to discount any religion that teaches anything different (i.e. sufism). I'm no sufi expert! However, It doesn't take long to browse the net and find the teachings and it doesn't take long to see they are not biblical. You will also find the sufi practice has attempted to hijack many different religions including islam. Hummm... imagine that?!?!? Turn about is fair play so they say :-) God bless! Steve |

248 | Forgiven or not Forgiven? | Acts 5:31 | humbledbyhisgrace | 170304
Greetings Brother! I would agree we are not forgiven because of remorse or sorrow or guilt but rather because repentance is a gift from God (Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18). Is it not the remorse, sorrow, guilt, etc... and understanding of whom we have sinned against that leads us to repent? Steve |

As an Independent Baptist? Does this mean you think there are certain scriptures for Independent Baptist? Romans 6:23, John 14:6, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 10:9-10 and on and on... Here's some more Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9-10, and Romans 5:1-6 Brother there are so many verses one can share that for a believer speaks loud and clear the message of Christ. My guess is you already know them yourself. What are the best? Well, in my opinion they are all God's words so they are all worth sharing with her. But keep in mind these verses which are for you - Hebrews 4:12, Isaiah 55:11, Romans 10:17 PS. These are not offered as an Independent Baptist but as a Christian Brother! When you are talking about the salvation of another your not going to find it in a denomination. The word of God is clear on this, salvation comes through Christ alone! May God bless you and your daughter, Steve |

250 | Decisional regeneration? | Acts 2:38 | humbledbyhisgrace | 169748
Hey Brother, I hear what your saying and I would agree with you that we should stay with the scripture (Romans 10:17). I think many times some tend to try and sum up what the scripture says and we tend to use catch phrases that have been introduced throughout time. I guess I should not speak as if I know the motivation or reasoning of other men but I do believe in the power of God's word (Hebrews 4:12, Isaiah 55:11) and have experienced it myself so I personally would agree repeating it as it is written is the way it should be delivered. We need not fear the lack of understanding on the part of another because we know that without God revealing His truth to us we will never understand it to the point of belief unless He Himself opens our heart to it and draws us to Him and gives us the faith to believe (John 6:44-45 Romans 12:3, Ephesians 2:8). You said "I know that people mean well but that just isn’t the way to be saved. Ephes. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" This scripture does not exactly tell someone how to be saved either (Was that your point or am I misinterpreting you?). It tells them they are saved by faith, but faith in what? It tells them that it is nothing they do on their own but that it's a gift from God. Isn't this scripture speaking to those already saved? Is it required that someone know and understand that salvation is a gift from God before they receive this gift or is the fact they know and understand that Christ died for their sins and was buried and that He was raised on the third day and that they believe this in their heart and confess Him as Lord that is important? How could one ever understand the depth of the gift of salvation without first having God reveal it to them? Forgive me if I've drifted off subject and/or misinterpreted you. Your Brother in Christ, Steve |

251 | Is God Sovereign in the Church today? | Rom 1:22 | humbledbyhisgrace | 168569
Hello Brother Brad! I just want to share some thoughts on this one and through out a few questions :-) Question: Does anyone think "the church" is not exactly where God wants it to be today? If the answer is no, would that not question God's Sovereignty? In my understanding it would. You ask "What are your thoughts as to why this is?" based on what A.W. Pink had written. I think that's a great question and exactly the type of questions we should be asking ourselves. What is God doing? What is His will for the church at this point in time? What do I, as His servant need to be doing for His glory and His church? I don't think we should be surprised at what mankind is doing for we know them to be corrupted and hopeless without God's intervention. For me the "why" leads to the question, what is God showing us and what are we the church suppose to do with it? There are many today and throughout history like A.W. Pink and the many examples we see throughout the pages of the bible that God has given a passion and a hunger for His word. It's these people that are able to see the contradictions between what the word of God says and what mankind teaches and twist to create their own doctrines. I think that is exactly what A.W. Pink is pointing out. So, going back to your question, why is it like this? Hummmm.... I of course don't have the answer to that. But I'm confident in that it fits God's sovereign plan. In my way of thinking, God is clearly showing us the corruption and false teachings of mankind probably more so then ever before. Why is that and what are we the church to do? "What can be done about it?" If you have been given His truth, never compromise on it, remember where it came from and share it with others as if their life depended on it (which it does!). For me, the farther I see the teachings of mankind move away from the word of God, the clearer the word of God becomes to me. The stronger my desire becomes to know it and understand it and share it with others. I for one am so thankful to God for His word and those that He has given to His church that do not and will not compromise on His word and will stand up and shout when it is trampled on. Just another thought on what we can do. This may seem like a radical idea to some. However, what about actually teaching the word of God from the word of God in our churches. I can't help but wonder what it might be like if we removed the Sunday School books, discipleship training materials and such from the church and just use the word of God to teach the word of God. I say this because I become more and more irritated by the materials that seem to insert one or two scriptures and then a page or two or three of mankind's thoughts and babblings. Well, I've babbled enough myself. I know the question was dealing more with the sovereignty of God in the church then where I drifted off to in my babblings so I'll just leave you with this thought on the church (Nehemiah 8:1-8). I think it's a beautiful picture of what it must be like to truly come together with a hunger and reverence for God's word and worship the Lord as we should and goes a long way in answering the question, "what can we do about it?". As you read Nehemiah 8:1-8 ask yourself these questions. Do we gather as one and encourage our pastors to feed us the word of God like it is written? Are we attentive as the word of God is shared with us? Does the leadership of our local church stand together as one, united and determined to teach and guide us in the word? Do we stand with those that stand on the word of God? Are we awed by the word of God and show reverence to it as they did in Nehemiah 8:5? Do we praise the Lord our Great God like we should? Do we teach the word of God to others and seek to help them understand it? Can you just imagine what it would be like to gather as they did in Nehemiah 8? What an awesome picture! God Bless, Steve Lord helps us. We long for the day you gather your church to be with you. Amen! |

252 | Is a womans body a mans to do as he see | 1 Cor 7:4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 167288
Hello crector, Here are a few scriptures that should help answer your question. Ephesians 5:25-30 (NASB) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body. Do you understand how much Christ loves His Church? |

253 | ... | Is 43:7 | humbledbyhisgrace | 166445
Isaiah 29:16 You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, "He did not make me"; Or what is formed say to him who formed it, "He has no understanding"? Isaiah 45:9 Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing? Or the thing you are making say, He has no hands? "Why destroy Sodom when he knew about San Francisco? Why create Adam and Eve in the first place if he knew what would happen? Why create Adam to Noah if he was going to kill them all anyway?" For His Glory! "Why kill everyone but Noah if he knew what the world would end up like?" Again, for His glory! When we see what the world will end up like, we will see His glory. We will see how His ways are much higher then our ways and His thoughts higher then our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9) And ALL will bow before Him and confess Him as Lord! (Philippians 2:9-1). "Why does god seem surprised by the actions/reactions of men?" Where do you find God surprised at anything man has done? God knew you before you were even created in your mothers womb (Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:4-5) He knows everything about you even down to the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30) He created you for His purpose not your own. "Why does god get upset when men turn away from him, he should expect it?" What makes you think He doesn't expect it? After all, it's a part of His plan as is all things before and after this day (Ephesians 1:9-10, Romans 8:28). "Why does god even have human emotions like hatred, anger and jealousy? Aren't those 'bad' traits? If he were the vast intelligence being that created all things why does he have this primitive, negative human qualities?" Possibly you should take the time to read the word of God and seek the answers their. The word of God clearly teaches us we are created in God's image (Genesis 1:26). God has not taken on our traits. Humans are the created being not the creator. We (mankind) have been made in the Creator's image not the other way around. These "traits" you mention are perfect in the creator. Mankind is the corrupted one! May God show mercy and reveal to you His truth! Steve |

254 | If you have never learned of the Trinity | John 3:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 166377
There are many different doctrines taught throughout the bible and all I believe are important for us to learn and understand. After all, each one is the word of God. I would encourage you to do a study on Salvation. There are many places on the web that offer free studies on this subject and can point you to many of the scriptures speaking to this subject. It's my belief the scriptures teach us that it's only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that our sins are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7) and there is nothing we can do to earn that forgiveness of sin on our own, it is a gift from God Himself (Ephesians 2:8-9) and that if we confess Jesus as our Lord and believe in our heart God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved! (Romans 10:9-10). Please do not misunderstand me regarding the doctrine of the Trinity. I am not saying this is not important nor something you should disregard. I'm only attempting to point out the word of God to my understanding does not require the belief or understanding of the trinity to be saved. However, I will also state that I do believe the bible teaches us what we (mankind) refer to as the triune God. One God in three distinct persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Your Brother in Christ, Steve |

255 | How do you guys fight temptation? | James 5:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 165734
Here is another good verse to think about and to go along with the other good scriptures and points that have been shared with you. Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Ocelot and Mark both pointed out the importance of the Word of God. Psalm 119:11 is another scripture that points to this importance. Read it, study it, learn it, know it and never stop! Keep in mind, Jesus is our example. His life gives us an awesome example of how to live and handle things we will be faced with. If you will, take a look back at Mark's post and read again the scriptures he listed (Matthew 4:3-10). Notice what Jesus did? He used scripture to fight against the temptations He was faced with. If this is what our Lord would do, then we should follow His example with confidence. Remember, there is power in the word of God (Hebrews 4:12) Your brother in Christ, Steve |

257 | Greater Love | 1 John 4:7 | humbledbyhisgrace | 164591
Be Like Christ! Philippians 2 is one why I could point to scripture to explain my thoughts. Mainly Philippians 2:7-9. From the day I was saved the Lord has laid on my heart the importance of the cross and what He did there. From that day the reading and hearing of His word has taught me just how dependent I am on Him. Understanding these things and looking back at my own self I see just how lost and empty I was before. When I see others now I can honestly say I feel compassion for them more then anything else (Who would you say gave me compassion?) I realize I was just as blind and helpless without Him (referring to the lost). Also, when I see a brother or sister stumble I only have to look back at my self and it doesn’t take long to realize that even standing in His grace we struggle with our corrupted self. It’s a constant reminder we need Him more then I think we realize some times. So for me, it was and continues to be a humbling experience. I could not love another like I do if it was not for God Himself giving me this ability and compassion. I know this because I know who I use to be and I can see the change He has made in my life. How to increase the love? Never forget what our Lord and Saviour did on the cross and continue to look to His example! Pray that He will increase our love for one another! I do confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! God bless! Steve |
