Dear Bab53, *************** Matthew 18:10 states, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” In the context, “these little ones” could either apply to those who believe in Him (v. 6) or it could refer to the little children (vv. 3-5). This is the key passage when the discussion of guardian angels comes up. There is no doubt that good angels help protect (Daniel 6:20-23; 2 Kings 6:13-17), reveal information (Acts 7:52-53; Luke 1:11-20), guide (Matthew 1:20-21; Acts 8:26), provide for (Genesis 21-17-20; 1 Kings 19:5-7), and minister to believers in general (Hebrews 1:14). The question that arises is whether each person—or each believer—has an angel assigned to him/her. In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel had the archangel (Michael) assigned to it (Daniel 10:21; 12:1), but nowhere in Scripture does it state that an angel was “assigned” to an individual (they were sometimes sent to individuals, but no mention of “permanent” assignment is given). The Jews had fully developed the belief in guardian angels during the time between the Old and New Testament periods. Some early church fathers believed that each person had not only a good angel assigned to him/her, but also a demon as well. The belief in guardian angels has been around for a long time, but there is no explicit scriptural basis for it. To return to Matthew 18:10, the word “their” is a collective pronoun in the Greek, and refers to the fact that believers are served by angels in general. These angels are pictured “always” watching the face of God so as to hear His command to them to help a believer when it is needed. If one is to take from the Matthew passage that guardian angels are referred to, it would seem that these angels are continually guarding a person, but rather “always see the face of” the Father in heaven. The active duty or oversight seems then to come more from God than the angels, which makes perfect sense because God alone is omniscient. He sees every believer at every moment, and He alone knows when one of us needs the intervention of an angel. Because they are continually seeing His face, the angels are at His disposal to help one of His “little ones.” It cannot be emphatically answered from Scripture whether or not each believer has a guardian angel assigned to him/her. But as stated earlier, God does use them in ministering to us. It is scriptural to say that He uses them as He uses us, i.e. He in no way needs us or them to accomplish His purposes, but chooses to use us and them nevertheless (Job 4:18; Job 15:15). In the end, whether we have an angel assigned to protect us or not, we have a greater assurance that God gives: if we are His children through faith in Christ, He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28-30), and that Jesus Christ will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). If we have an omniscient, omnipotent, all-loving God with us, does it really matter whether or not there is a finite “guardian angel” protecting us? source: http://gotquestions.org/guardian-angels.html *************** Shalom Azure |

2202 | ... | Rev 1:1 | azurelaw | 215576
Dear Bab, The scripture is clear that we have to test the spirits (angels are spiritual beings) since Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, his followers can work miracles to deceive us. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 2 Cor 11:14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Matt 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. Shalom Azure |

Dear Tamara, Will be praying for you. 1 Tim 4:8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. Dear renamacd, Yes and no. Yes, Genesis 1-2 tell us about the origin of the universe, earth and people. No, there is no origin of God. See Rev 1:8. God is at all self-existent eternally. He is the creator of all (including time and space). Dear Lungowe, A word search for "paradise" is helpful. Strong's number 3857 paradeisos; of Pers. or. (enclosure); a park, a garden, a paradise:--Paradise(3). Related verses are: 2 Cor 12:4 was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak. Rev 2:7 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.' Therefore, it is safe to understand it as heaven, Eden - the garden of God as portrayed in Revelation. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure P.S. 2211 | I want to get back to Jesus. | Rev 3:3 | azurelaw | 191699
Dear LJ777, When reading your question, the first thing comes to mind is the story of the prodigal son described in Luke 15. I believe the moment you had the above questions in mind was a sign of the Holy Spirit's work in you to urge for your repentance. C.H. Spurgeon has depicted a beautiful and loving picture in his sermon which I am glad to quote as an encouragement. ******** "And kissed him."—Luke 15:20. ...the subject of which will be, the overflowing love of God toward the returning sinner. The determination to return home is good; but it is when the wandering boy begins the business of really carrying out the good resolve, that he draws near the blessing. If any of you here present have long been saying, "I will repent; I will turn to God"; leave off resolving, and come to practicing; and may God in His mercy lead you both to repent and to believe in Christ! Before the kisses of love were given, this young man was on his way to his father; but he would not have reached him unless his father had come the major part of the way. When you give God and inch, He will give you an ell. If you come a little way to Him, when you are "yet a great way off" He will run to meet you. I do not know that the prodigal saw his father, but his father saw him. The eyes of mercy are quicker than the eyes of repentance. Even the eyes of our faith is dim compared with the eye of God's love. He sees a sinner long before a sinner sees Him. I do not suppose that the prodigal travelled very fast. I should imagine that he came very slowly— "With heavy heart and downcast eye, With many a sob and many a sigh." Slow are the steps of repentance, but swift are the feet of forgiveness. God can run where we scarcely limp, and if we are limping towards Him, He will run towards us. ******************** (to read more, go to http://www.biblebb.com/files/spurgeon/2236.htm) Shalom Azure |

Dear Brother Doc, Traducianism held by Martin Luther... Is it possible for you provide the source where I can retrieve Luther's article on this subject? Though my church is Lutheran based, as far as my memory serves me, I cannot recall the idea of soul inherited from parents in my mind. What I have had in mind is pretty much similar to what you have said about the creationism view. It would be good to know more about Lurther's thought on the subject. Thanks and Shalom Azure |

2218 | first fruits and the elect | Rev 7:4 | azurelaw | 236591
Dear Brother Doc, I owe you my note of conference on Revelation presented remarkably by a local theologian Dr Simon Chau. In respond to your quote from Rev.K DeYoung, Dr. Chau presented pretty much the same idea on the number of 144,000. Revelations is full of symbolic language (and so much tied with the OT) which targeted to the intended readers (the 1st century Christians)and they (unlike us - those modern people) would not have the problem to understand what John was talking. Dr. Chau said that if we have not read the OT or any idea of the OT, there is no way that we could understand Revelation properly. We also have to put our foot into the intended readers' shoes. Sadly that nowadays, OT is so much neglected on the pulpit that many Christians lack the proper understanding of the Bible as a whole. Shalom Azure |

2219 | Will we recognize loved ones in Heaven | Rev 7:9 | azurelaw | 190526
Dear angelinwaiting, ------- Many people state that the first thing they want to do when they arrive in Heaven is see all their friends and loved ones who had passed on before them. I do not think this will be the case. Yes, I do believe we will be able to see, know, and spend time with our friends and family members in Heaven. In eternity, there will be plenty of time for that. However, I do not think that will be our primary focus in Heaven. I believe we will be far more occupied with worshipping God and enjoying the wonders of Heaven to be concerned with being reunited with our loved ones right away. What does the Bible say about whether we will be able to see and know our loved ones in Heaven? When David’s infant son died as a result of David’s sin with Bathsheba, after his time of grief David declared, “But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me” (2 Samuel 12:23). David assumed that he would be able to recognize his son in heaven, despite the fact that he died as a baby. The Bible declares that when we arrive in Heaven, we will “be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2). 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 describes our resurrection bodies: “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” Just as our earthly bodies were of the first man Adam (1 Corinthians 15:47a) so will our resurrection bodies be just like Christ’s (1 Corinthians 15:47b). “And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” (1 Corinthians 15:49,53). Many people recognized Jesus after His resurrection (John 20:16, 20; 21:12; 1 Corinthians 15:4-7). So, if Jesus was recognizable in His resurrection body, I see no reason to believe that ours will be any different. Being able to see our loved ones is a glorious aspect of Heaven – but Heaven is far more about God, and far less about our own wants. What a pleasure it will be to be reunited with our loved one, and worship God with our loved ones for all eternity. Source: http://www.gotquestions.org/family-heaven.html --------- Shalom Azure |

2220 | who is the angel in rev.10/1 | Rev 10:1 | azurelaw | 199179
Dear mommaw, Welcome to the forum. Most bible scholars believe it be Jesus Christ. "... another mighty angel--as distinguished from the mighty angel who asked as to the former and more comprehensive book (Revelation 5:2), "Who is worthy to open the book?" clothed with a cloud--the emblem of God coming in judgment. a--A; B, C. and Aleph read "the"; referring to (Revelation 4:3) the rainbow already mentioned. rainbow upon his head--the emblem of covenant mercy to God's people, amidst judgments on God's foes. Resumed from Revelation 4:3 face as . . . the sun--(Revelation 1:16, 18:1). feet as pillars of fire--(Revelation 1:15, Ezekiel 1:7). The angel, as representative of Christ, reflects His glory and bears the insignia attributed in Revelation 1:15,16, 4:3, to Christ Himself. The pillar of fire by night led Israel through the wilderness, and was the symbol of God's presence." (Jamieson Fausett Brown) "The person who was principally concerned in communicating this discovery to John—an angel from heaven, another mighty angel, who is so set forth as would induce one to think it could be no other than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! 1. He was clothed with a cloud: he veils his glory, which is too great for mortality to behold; and he throws a veil upon his dispensations. Clouds and darkness are round about him. 2. A rainbow was upon his head; he is always mindful of his covenant, and, when his conduct is most mysterious, yet it is perfectly just and faithful. 3. His face was as the sun, all bright, and full of lustre and majesty, ch. 1:16. 4. His feet were as pillars of fire; all his ways, both of grace and providence, are pure and steady." (Matthew Henry) Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |
