Dear Pedro, Thank you very much for your reply. Sorry that I did not make myself clear. Could you please elaborate more with biblical reference as to the below statement you made earlier in your post? ...if anyone makes you feel like the way you are feeling maybe it's time to find a new church home where they treat you better. Thanks again for sharing. Shalom Azure |

Dear Pedro, I agree with you that if the church does not teach sound biblical doctrine, we should leave without turning back. Thank you again for the explanation and the scriptures quoted. Before I would forget, welcome to the forum. Which country are you from? It would be good to let us know you better if you could fill in your user profile as I did. Hope you enjoy the forum and share with us. Shalom Azure |

2125 | No conviction | James 2:19 | azurelaw | 189597
Dear hunger, Your first statement "A woman gave into her flesh .... " What do you mean? Was she willing or unwilling under threatening? You say "She acknowledges her sin but is not sorry..." We can acknowledge many things, be it a fact, an incidence or a theory.... just as what was said in James 2:19 without any influences on us. I urge you to read the whole chapter of James 2. Without a repenting heart, what's the reason to ask for forgiveness? It also doesn't make sense even to ask a friend for forgiveness when one does not feel sorry nor is not willing to repent. Know that our God is Mighty and HOLY and cannot be deceived. "What is repentance? Let me read to you from the Westminster Confession of Faith, a document that comes to us from the seventeenth century: "By [repentance] a sinner, out of the sight and sense not only of the danger, but also of the filthiness and odiousness of his sins, as contrary to the holy nature and righteous law of God; and upon the apprehension of his mercy in Christ to such as are penitent, so grieves for, and hates his sins, as to turn from them all unto God, purposing and endeavoring to walk with him in all the ways of his commandments. . . yet [repentance] is of such necessity to all sinners, that none may expect pardon without it. As there is no sin so small that it deserves damnation; so there is no sin so great that it can bring damnation upon those who truly repent. Men ought not to content themselves with a general repentance, but it is every man's duty to endeavor to repent of his particular sins, particularly" (Westminster Confession of Faith, chapter XV, sections II, III, IV)." - by P. G. Mathew (source: http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/) Hope I did not misunderstand you. Your further elaboration would be very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

2128 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | azurelaw | 223276
Dear Biblenovice, Please do calm down first (James 1:19-20). I hope you would drop your focus on your car problem and the seemingly unswered prayer issue for the time being. Let me recall you to Acts 3:1-8. The lame was truly IN NEED OF ALMS, and that was absolutely reasonable. He believed so and I would, too if I were him. But what God gave him (through Peter's hand) was not the lame expected - a new life (both physical and spiritual, I beleive,...see he PRAISED God instead of praising Peter, and cling to Peter into the temple instead of going away). Now, why do I cite the passage? Have you considered that your coming to the forum in search of help on the specific car issue could be a means of God's dealing (through forum users who hold to sola scriptura) with your other problems - to have a proper understanding of God and His Words. Without proper view of God, our worldview will be distorted and so do our view on the circumstances experienced in our daily lives. May the Holy Spirit shed light in your heart. God bless Shalom Azure |

2129 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | azurelaw | 223278
Thank you for the encouragement, brother John. Isn't God marvellous, and only He truly knows what we need and what is good for us? Doesn't He, only He know what our real problem is? Isn't He so loving and gracious that before we ask, He gives (i.e. before we realize our own problem, He takes the initiative step to show where we err). What shall we say but Halelujah to Him in the highest! Shalom Azure |

2133 | Healing through prayer? | James 5:14 | azurelaw | 208288
Dear Helen, Welcome to the forum. EdB is no longer active on the from since 2005, I am afraid you will not get a reply from him. May God's blessings and grace be always with you and your walk with Him is closer and closer day by day albeit you are suffering from you ailment. May you also be a blessing to those around you, dear heart. May I recommend you the book "Queen of Dark Chamber" which speaks so much about God's grace on a Chinese christian who has extremely serious longterm illness and she is the vessel that brings multiple fruits for the glory of our Lord. A brief introduction can be found at : prayforchina.com/pro_cai_sujuan_e.htm Shalom Azure |

2135 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | azurelaw | 201563
Dear Brad, I have done a word search for both "hell" and "hades" and got the below: hadês; (86) perh. from 1 (as a neg. pref.) and 1491a (3708); Hades, the abode of departed spirits:--Hades(10). hell (1067) : geenna; of Heb. or. [1516 and 2011]; Gehenna, a valley W. and S. of Jer., also a symbolic name for the final place of punishment of the ungodly:--hell(12). The Apostles' Creed (Chinese version) I recite at church articulate more on the sense of "hades" instead of "hell" in the English version. In that case, I think the doctrine could have been based on : Acts 2:31 He, foreseeing this, spoke [by foreknowledge] of the resurrection of the Christ (the Messiah) that He was not deserted [in death] and left in Hades (the state of departed spirits), nor did His body know decay or see destruction. [Ps. 16:10.] Then my concern will be: 1/ Does the Chinese Apostle's Creed hold closer meaning in employing Acts 2:31? (This one I will need to ask our pastor at church.) 2/ Is Acts 2:31 a more relevant scripture to the Apostles' Creed doctrine? If so, how should we understand "...He was not deserted [in death] and left in Hades (the state of departed spirits)..."? Does it bear the meaning that Jesus did go to hades but not left there? Your enlightenment will be very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

2136 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | azurelaw | 201566
Dear Brad, Thanks for your reply and I don't mean to put you into a difficult situation, sorry. I was not asking you to comment or verify (that is sure not fair for any non-Chinese Christian to do) on the Chinese version as well. I just wanted to provide something that I know but also needed to get a better understanding as to the original language version of the Creed for I believe the Apostles' Creed should be biblically based. Shamefully, I did not study the Apostles' Creed as I should have. However, when the subject brought up about if Jesus went to hell (clearly addressed in the Creed) in concern with the relevant scripture,I hope you (or others) may help me understand better. Last but not least, I am surprised that you said you are not an English major! What is your first langauge, if you don't mind to tell? Hope you enjoy the forum. :-) Shalom Azure |

2138 | ? laws prior to Exodus/Moses | 1 Pet 1:10 | azurelaw | 202688
If God gave His commandments only in the Exodus, were people lawless before that age of time or God had a different measure? What kind of "laws" did they have? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

2139 | ? laws prior to Exodus/Moses | 1 Pet 1:10 | azurelaw | 202690
Dear Brother Doc, Thanks for the helpful post and systematic explanation. It is what I need. Last Saturday night, in a bible study group, we talked about Rebekah (Genesis 27). A member addressed her displeasure on both Jacob and Rebekah's deceitful behaviour and said they could have violated the ten commandments. However, we noted that by that time the ten commandments were not given yet. We also see that people by that time (it should be indifferent to modern people, too) usually cheat others for obtaining what they want. Nevertheless, both Jacob and Rebekah had to take the consequences of their deceitful behaviour. Shalom Azure |
