Dear DLorddaughter, Glad to see your post again. "The root of the word Nicolaitans comes from Greek nikao, to conquer or overcome, and laos, which means people and which the word laity comes from." - Jay Atkinson You may also like to retrieve post number 99809 for more information. Shalom Azure |

2184 | Interpreting Revelation | Revelation | azurelaw | 190513
Dear Brother Steve, I couldn't agree with you more. May I steal the idea from Mr. C.S. Lewis "....questions which divide Christians from one another often involve points of high Theology or even of ecclesiastical history, which ought never to be treated except by real experts. I should have been out of my depth in such waters: more in need of help myself than able to help others. And secondly, I think we must admit that the discussion of these disputed points has no tendency at all to bring an outsider into the Christian fold. So long as we write and talk about them we are much more likely to deter him from entering any Christian communion than to draw him into our own." (preface of Mere Christianity) The things I concern most in the book of revelation are: 1/ God's sovereignty and glory. It is comforting to see that despite the severe persecution on earth towards the saints, the worships in heaven are so much grand and all believers are part-takers in it. 2/ The letter to the 7 churches provide us with warnings, promises, comforting and encouraging messages. I believe it is part of the reason why John started the book with "Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who reads aloud [in the assemblies] the word of this prophecy; and blessed (happy, to be envied) are those who hear [it read] and who keep themselves true to the things which are written in it [heeding them and laying them to heart], for the time [for them to be fulfilled] is near." (1:3) 3/ Jesus' coming to get us to his everlasting glory. There will never ever be anymore tears, temptations, evils; for Satan will be in the lake of fire and have no influence to us anymore forever. Perhaps it's a bit late, yet have a God blessed 4th July. Shalom Azure |

2186 | can anyone here help a seeker | Revelation | azurelaw | 192066
Dear Rabban, While I appreciate and enjoy some of your fine posts, yet I feel it inappropriate to encourage a private interaction in public THIS way (which I mean it sounds like putting an ad for yourself, please do not take it offensive). Meanwhile, you say : I will give you all the answers you want. I am pretty sure that no one has all the answers for the Bible. And we are not to give answers according to whoever WANTS. Sorry that you might find me picky on your wordings but please do understand that this is a public forum and some users / readers could be very green in their path of searching God's word. In that they could be misled that they can get a direct line with the authority other than diligently studying the Bible. Again, if I offended you, my sincere appology. Shalom Azure |

2187 | can anyone here help a seeker | Revelation | azurelaw | 192083
Dear Rabban, Thank you for your response and your heartfelt concern on the seeking souls. I don't think it is a problem to reccomend a RENOWNED bibble study website on the forum as some other users did as well. Since you have mentioned about this group of well qualified theologians on the net which worths a visit, why don't you cite the web as an additional source of reference for the forum users? Shalom Azure |

2189 | understanding the book of revelation | Revelation | azurelaw | 193256
Dear Janice, The Book of Revelation has caused a lot of controveries in dicussing the end time events. There are some schools of thoughts developed. However, I do not fall into any of the categories. May I offer my below approach to the study. 1/ The genre of the book : letter with recipients (the 7 churches) 2/ Background of the readers, e.g. contemporary christians under tribulation. 3/ Historical background by the time John wrote the book. 4/ John's usage of symbolic concept from OT books (e.g. Exodus, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, etc) 5/ John's purpose of writing the book - comfort, strengthen and encourage the christians who were under tribulation by that time, rebuke the wrong doings of the churches (see the letter to the 7 churches), prophesying, etc. 6/ The layout of order. Contrasting the chaos on earth with the orderly worship in heaven. Message to the contemporary suffering christians : God is sovereign and in control. He will judge. We should persevere and endure to the end. First death is our physical death. Second death is for the unrighteous being put to the lake of fire on the judgement day. Just my 2 cents. Hope they are helpful for your understanding. I am still learning, too. Should you find anything wrong, I am open for correction. Shalom Azure |

2190 | Who is the Bride of Christ? | Revelation | azurelaw | 206348
Dear GBzones, Welcome to the forum. You say: "Even as Eve was taken from the body of the first Adam. As bride for Issac was taken from AMONG his brtheren. As Levi was taken from among the 12 twelve tribes. As Peter James and John were taken from the 12 apostles. She will be made up predominatly from the gentiles. Moses was already marrried to a gentile when he delivered isreal. Joseph was already married to a gentile bride when He revealed himself to his bretheren. Ruth a gentile married BOAZ the redeemer. " I would appreciate it if you could elaborate how would you come up with the above conclusion. Shalom Azure |

2192 | is locust of joel the 2nd deathmessenger | Revelation | azurelaw | 214443
Dear dieselcowboy, "...in this case [studying the Book of Revelation] exegesis is especially crucial. For this is a book on which a lot of popular books and pamphlets have been written. In almost every case, these popular books do no exegesis at all. They jump immediately to hermeneutics, which usually takes the form of fanciful speculations that John himself could never possibly have intended or understood." --- Fee and Stuart I would recommend you the book "How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth" by Fee and Stuart. They provide helpful guidelines for our Bible study. Shalom Azure |

2194 | John 10:30 vs 1 Cor 11:3 Contradiction?? | Revelation | azurelaw | 217671
Dear Lexus, Phil 2:6 John 1 Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus is God. "In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost:[38] the Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father;[39] the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son.[40] 38. Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19; II Cor. 13:14; see Eph. 2:18 39. John 1:14, 18; see Heb. 1:2-3; Col. 1:15 40. John 15:26; Gal. 4:6" --- The Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter II Shalom Azure |

2195 | Will the AntiChrist speek 666 languages | Revelation | azurelaw | 220988
Dear mamashell, I don't see any biblical support for such saying thus I would not weigh it with much measure. For past discussions about the antichrist issue, you may make use of the "Advanced Search" function (blue letter) on the top right hand corner, type in "antichrist" and the tracable period. It will lead you to a number of past posts. Shalom Azure P.S. I don't hold the view that there will be actually a visible "stamp" or "mark" of 666. But rather it is a symbolic meaning that people who are allied with and worship the ungodly/rebellious/evil authority in their "minds" (666 on the forehead) and "deeds" (666 on the hands). However, I am open to be corrected with scriptural support :-) |

2196 | why is 666 the mark of the beast? | Revelation | azurelaw | 221824

2197 | GOD/ SATAN TEETH | Revelation | azurelaw | 228897
Dear Sharanlynn, Welcome to the forum. Why do you think Satan has teeth? Whatever the preacher says, it must be support by scripture. So, you better do your research base on the Bible to see what the Bible say about Satan. You may also do a word search on bible text on the right hand side with "angel" or "devil" or "satan" to locate verses about the subject. Frankly speaking, I don't think whether Satan has teeth/being teethout an interesting subject deserves our effort (comparatively to other essential Christian doctrines) to study. Shalom Azure |

2199 | who was john? | Rev 1:1 | azurelaw | 201283
Dear Ministry777, It sounds a bit odd to see that you post a question and answer it yourself. However, with reference to your original question, I hope the below information helpful to you: **** That this book was written by the Apostle and Evangelist John, is clear not only from the express mention of his name, and from his office, a servant of Jesus Christ, Revelation 1:1; but also from the character this writer gives of himself, Revelation 1:2; as being an eyewitness of the essential Logos, or Word of God, and who bore a faithful record of him as such, as John did in his Gospel, in a very peculiar and remarkable manner, and from this writer's being in the isle of Patmos when he wrote, Revelation 1:9; ... In the Vulgate Latin version it is called the Apocalypse of the blessed John the Apostle; and in the Syriac version, the Revelation which was made to John the Evangelist; and in the Arabic version, the Vision of John, the Apostle and Evangelist, to wit, the Apocalypse. All which acknowledge the Apostle John to be the writer of it, and show the sense of the ancients concerning it... - John Gill **** To read the fuller content, please go to http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/revelation/gill/revelationintro.htm Shalom Azure |
