21 | Making extra money for God Kingdom | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 224403
Good morning Grace, shalom, These people were not selling things for the furtherance of God's Kingdom. The Temple had its own currency standard, its own farms for breeding the sacrifice animals as well. When the people would come from all over the known world for the pilgrimage feasts these money-changers went to work. They would exchange all currencies for the Temple shekel and would make large profits for themselves at the expense of their brethren (usually the very poor). By the time of Jesus, most of the sacrifice animals were also purchased through the temple as well and this just afforded the money-changers and lenders another way to cheat their own people. This practice was against Torah and infuriated Jesus. Is selling hot dogs and applebutter, etc. a good thing? I'll leave that up to the Holy Spirit - but it doesn't equate to what the money-changers were doing. |

22 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 224772
Good morning Beja, This is probably NOT the answer you are looking for, but here goes: Whenever I see the terms "law," "lawless," etc. in the NT, I substitute with the terms Torah, Torahless. Most people, even way bach when, abide by the laws of their dwelling, so law and lawlessness must refer to something else entirely. I'm not certain what antinomanianism (or nomanianism) is but I believe that the standard God set before Israel is for all redeemed people. (It's not a "pick and choose" sort of thing, but obviously not all commands are for everyone at any given time - but God's Torah is still alive and well.) Just my 2 cents worth |

23 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 224777
Dear Beja, You're talking to a Torah-observant follower of Messiah! Of course I quote James 2:14-24 and Rev. 19:8 quite often. Even adding love to the equation is hollow if there are no works to show that faith and love. I don't intend to be naked in the world to come! Unfortunately, I do believe that there are many christians who do believe that because we are under grace we don't need to worry about sin - that somehow we are immune to it or the Holy Spirit just won't let us do the deed, but that is foolishness. I think Peter was warning against such folly. Shalom |

26 | Why do I feel like God is teasing me? | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 225736
Greetings Luna, First let me state that this is not the place to come for advice (not any forum). The venue just doesn't allow for the "personal touch" you need. And most of the regulars here are just ordinary people, not psychologists, so we're not trained to give you the help you need. Please seek professional help, either from a licensed psychologist or your pastor. It sounds to me like you need help seeing your worth outside of a relationship. You say you have no friends and no one understands you. It could be that they would like to be friends with you but you frighten them with your intensity. Get some one on one professional help to help you find that whole, intelligent, talented person that you are. When you start presenting that self-reliant person to everyone, they'll come flocking to you. I will tell you that the one thing I stressed the most to my kids was to not rush into any relationships. Get your education, get your career going, get your feet firmly planted on the ground first. In other words, a capable, self-reliant, self-sufficient person will draw that kind of person to themselves. Also, a lot of what you're going through has a name - Teenager. You're almost through it, hang on. Things do get better. Slow down. Relax. Enjoy your youth, it's gone far too quickly. God may know that you are not ready yet for a deep relationship. Better to wait on His timing and perfect mate than to rush into a big mistake. Look what happened when Abraham and Sarah decided to help Him keep His promise to them about a son! The descendants of those two boys are still at each other's throats! I will pray that you find the help you need to help you learn how to shine. We all have a light in us that the world needs (see the world needs you more than you need the world!!), some of us just need a little help in the twinkle department. :o) |

27 | Why different directions required | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 225779
Greetings Azure, shalom Perhaps I've missed a previous question that would give the answer, but what Book are you referring to? Leviticus, Ezekiel....??? |

28 | Why different directions required | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 225791
Azure, I figured it was Lev. but wanted to make sure. I have a Jewish study bible based primarily on the commentary of Rashi (along with some others)and I checked it. Unfortunately, there are no study notes on those particular verses as to the reasoning behind the directions. Knowing how the rabbis studied the Torah, I'm sure that question has been asked and covered somewhere in their writings, I'm just not sure where... Perhaps someone else can help find a answer for you. :o) Sorry, I couldn't help. |

29 | Why different directions required | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 225797
Azure, I did some googling and did come up with this little nugget: The Temple: Its Ministry and Services Alfred Edersheim Chapter 5 Sacrifices: Their Order and Their Meaning The Acts of Sacrifice The Rabbis mention the following five acts as belonging to the offerer of a sacrifice: the laying on of hands, slaying, skinning, cutting up, and washing the inwards. These other five were strictly priestly functions: catching up the blood, sprinkling it, lighting the altar fire, laying on the wood, bringing up the pieces, and all else done at the altar itself. The whole service must have been exceedingly solemn. Having first been duly purified, a man brought his sacrifice himself 'before the Lord'—, to 'the door of the Tabernacle' (Lev 1:3; 4:4), where the altar of burnt-offering was (Exo 40:6), and in the Temple into the Great Court. If the sacrifice was most holy, he entered by the northern; if less holy, by the southern gate. Next he placed it so as to face the west, or the Most Holy Place, in order thus literally to bring it before the Lord. To this the apostle refers when, in Romans 12:1, he beseecheth us to present our 'bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.' It's not much, but it's a start? |

Beja, Many have been the times that a few trivia questions have been the embers that sparked a true interest in the subject. And sometimes a few trivia questions will be just the medicine after an in-depth study. I would hope we are not too stuffy to find pleasure and joy in finding the answers to what may be mundane to us. Let God's shalom rule in your heart. |

31 | why are the twelve tribes of isreal diff | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 225846
Makarios, Wouldn't another reason for the differences be that after Mt Sinai, the Levites were no longer counted among Israel as a "tribe" because they had been placed apart as to God? Therefore, aside from the prophecy of double portion going to Joseph, i.e. Manasseh and Ephraim, these two were counted as 2 tribes then brought back together as one single tribe to make room for the tribe of Joseph (or is Ephraim counted among Joseph's tribe? Never thought of this before?), and also the Levites were restored and counted among Israel. |

32 | did jesus keep the law | NT general | ariel levin | 224429
Shalom rbradley, Yes, he did. His complaint was with Pharisaic Judaism of the day. They, like Rabbinical Jews of today, believed that the oral traditions of men were as inspired as the Scriptures. If you follow the Sermon on the Mount (from either Matthew or Luke) you'll see that Jesus says 'you've heard...' (this you won't find in the Torah, but in the Talmud, Mishna, Gemara), then he continues with, 'I tell you...' (and this you CAN find in the Books of Moses). This was one of the many reasons the Pharisees didn't like him, he held a mirror of themselves up for them to see and the picture wasn't pretty. |

33 | What is "entering into God's rest?" | NT general | ariel levin | 224961
Shalom Inquisitor, According to Revelation, it doesn't seem that heaven is our final destination, just a connecting bus ride. After a minute in heaven, we return to the old earth during the millenium or to the New Earth (which has its own New Heavens). We were created from the earth for the earth, we're not heavenly beings. In the Bible, God doesn't do things that are not necessary, so why would He create a New Earth when all we need is heaven? We're bound for the New Jerusalem on the New Earth!! (Or are you equationg heaven with that?) Thank you :o) |

34 | What is "entering into God's rest?" | NT general | ariel levin | 224964
BradK, There seems to be a problem. What is the New Earth for or which is it, old heaven, for a new heaven certainly isn't necessary or New Earth? I'm not arguing, this is a valid question, for we are told both - but both can't be. Paul says one thing, John something else. |

36 | Ruling and Reigning | Gen 1:26 | ariel levin | 224975
Shalom everyone, First let me thank all who responded to my response regarding the New Heaven and New Earth (New Jerusalem included within). Here's another puzzler for me: If, accroding to NT all within New Jerusalem are believers and according to NT we (believers) are to rule and reign - OVER WHAT are we ruliing and reigning? Or is this just to mean during the millenial reign where I understand that many will be born of those left alive (believers at its instigation) that will NOT follow God's Ways? Thank you |

37 | Ruling and Reigning | Gen 1:26 | ariel levin | 224977
Beja, I had the earth part down, (but in my human mind that really didn't seem like r snf r since it would not be cursed), but I had totally forgotten the angels part. TY! |
||||||
38 | Ruling and Reigning | Gen 1:26 | ariel levin | 224983
Stjohn, I'm assuming this is to me? I saw it as I was reading down the page. r snf r was a typo, left hand fingers in the wrong place. It was supposed to be r and r (for ruling and reinging) because the software won't allow apersands. When asking a question it wouldn't be too wise of me to try to be mysterious (just a poor typist sometimes). Sorry. :o) Oh, and to respond to your question of why not both - doesn't the old earth get burned up to nothingness, or is it just to a crisp, to be useable sometime later maybe? |

39 | Noah entered the ark--exactly when? | Gen 7:1 | ariel levin | 225511
If a symbolic association is desired, I believe that the Hebrew word translated coffin at the end of Genesis is the same word used for Noah's ark. Now that holds some symbolism.

Dear flyguild, Jesus was in the middle of the Passover Seder. There are 5 cups of wine, each representing something specific from Exodus 6:6-7. 1st cup “I will bring you out” (deliverance) 2nd cup “I will rid you of their bondage” (freedom) 3rd cup “I will redeem you” (redemption) 4th cup “I will take you for my people and I will be your God” (sanctification) 5th cup which is poured between the 2nd and 3rd cups, but not drunk till last, is the Cup for Elijah. The cup that Jesus spoke of was the 3rd cup, and He said, in essence, “from now on, when you observe this Passover, THIS cup is the cup of My blood, do this from now on in remembrance of Me.” No thanks to Constantine and the RCC, Christians have lost the Passover Seder. For anyone who has never observed the commemoration, either Jewish or Messianic, I would encourage you to consider doing so next year, especially if you can find a local Messianic congregation nearby. It will be an experience that will bring it all home to you and you see that regardless of what Judaism is today, when these Seder traditions came into fruition, their hearts were longing for their Messiah. Even though you didn't ask about it, I'll also show you Jesus in the Matza that is eaten. There are 3 pieces of matza, the middle one is taken, wrapped in a napkin and hidden (buried). Later, a child hunts for and finds this middle piece of matza which is then broken into pieces and consumed by all at the table. Sound familiar? Those are just 2 of the places in the Seder where Jesus can be seen, even if you're not looking! |
