Bible Question:
where does the Bible talk about four cups used for communion |
Bible Answer: Dear flyguild, Jesus was in the middle of the Passover Seder. There are 5 cups of wine, each representing something specific from Exodus 6:6-7. 1st cup “I will bring you out” (deliverance) 2nd cup “I will rid you of their bondage” (freedom) 3rd cup “I will redeem you” (redemption) 4th cup “I will take you for my people and I will be your God” (sanctification) 5th cup which is poured between the 2nd and 3rd cups, but not drunk till last, is the Cup for Elijah. The cup that Jesus spoke of was the 3rd cup, and He said, in essence, “from now on, when you observe this Passover, THIS cup is the cup of My blood, do this from now on in remembrance of Me.” No thanks to Constantine and the RCC, Christians have lost the Passover Seder. For anyone who has never observed the commemoration, either Jewish or Messianic, I would encourage you to consider doing so next year, especially if you can find a local Messianic congregation nearby. It will be an experience that will bring it all home to you and you see that regardless of what Judaism is today, when these Seder traditions came into fruition, their hearts were longing for their Messiah. Even though you didn't ask about it, I'll also show you Jesus in the Matza that is eaten. There are 3 pieces of matza, the middle one is taken, wrapped in a napkin and hidden (buried). Later, a child hunts for and finds this middle piece of matza which is then broken into pieces and consumed by all at the table. Sound familiar? Those are just 2 of the places in the Seder where Jesus can be seen, even if you're not looking! |
