21 | Didn't ALL things come from God, evil to | 1 John 1:5 | CiY127 | 136788
I'm sorry I thought I'd posted my answer earlier, I guess it didn't post. My comment of second in command was a figure of speech. God created the 3 archangels of which Lucifer was one. So figuratively speaking, Lucifer was one of his "right-hand angels". Some say that Ezekiel 28 points to the authority that Lucifer had as the anointed cherub, etc, but I was speaking figuratively.

We will have to agree to disagree. This passage when combined with other passages like Romans 12:4-8 (genderless roles) and Romans 16 (talks about all the women in service to the church) to name just a few, seems clear that all, both men and women, can serve in gift ministries as well as many other roles within the church. :-)
23 | Is this implying the stars sing/talk | Ps 19:2 | CiY127 | 136777
Psalm 19 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night showeth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language; Their voice is not heard. "uttereth" is best rendered "constantly pours forth" and "speech" is best rendered "word". So a literal translation would be "Day after day the heavens show forth the Word of God and night after night we see his wisdom"; for as verse 3 tells us there is no speech nor language nor voice, it is a visual, not audible, message. |

Ephesians 4 (KJV) 1I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. what did I take out of context? The passage is discussing the body, the Church of God of which both men and women are a part of. |

26 | I would like to understand Deut. 22:18-2 | Deut 22:13 | CiY127 | 136771
Here is the NIV translation of these verses in context starting with verse 13: 13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her 14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity," 15 then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate. 16 The girl's father will say to the elders, "I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. 17 Now he has slandered her and said, 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.' But here is the proof of my daughter's virginity." Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town, 18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him. 19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver [2] and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives. 20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you. Basicly if a man didn't like his wife all he had to do was say she wasn't a virgin when I married her. In the law this was a major deal. If the parents of the wife could prove she was a virgin (per manners and customs of the time, when the man and wife first laid together it was "witnessed" and a cloth that would catch the blood of her opening would be given to the parents. This is the token of her virginity it is speaking of.) then the husband could never divorce her and he had to pay the parents a fine. If however, the tokan or cloth couldn't be produced then the woman was to be stoned to death for her transgression against the law. Does this help you to understand more? |

27 | What is "the one who makes desolate"? | Dan 9:27 | CiY127 | 136768
Compare to Daniel 8:9-12; In the context of Dan 9:27 it speaks of the "he" (the one who makes desolate)causing the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. In Daniel 8:9 the "he" is call "a little horn" and this little horn in verse 10 "cast down of the host and of the stars to the ground" (Revelation 12:3,4 3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth...) Then the little horn in verse 11 takes away the daily sacrifice. Conclusion, the "he" that is "the one who makes desolate" of Dan 9:27 is the little horn of Dan 8:9 who is the dragon of Rev 12:4.
28 | meaning of 1Cor.1:26-31 | 1 Cor 1:26 | CiY127 | 136765
Let’s take I Corinthians 1: 26-31 in context (using KJV): 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. The word of salvation is foolishness to the world, but to those of us who are saved – it is the power of God 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. What wisdom will God destroy, obviously not the wisdom of God, but the wisdom of the world to whom the word of salvation is foolishness. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? With the wisdom of God, the wisdom of the world is for naught. 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. The wisdom of the world doesn’t allow us to know God and once we learn the wisdom of God we will that. Paul speaks by figure of speech when he says that the “foolishness of preaching”, he is not saying that it is foolish to preach, but that to the world, that which we preach, namely Jesus, is foolishness. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Interestingly enough the Jews, Israel, has always required signs from God. As far as Christ being crucified… instead of the signs of the kingdom promised by the prophets, the One who claimed to be their Messiah was crucified. This staggered them. That aside, to those that believe and are saved – Christ crucified (and his resurrection) shows forth the power and wisdom of God 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. What the world calls the foolishness of God is wiser than any of man’s wisdom; and what the world sees as the weakness of God is stronger than the strongest of men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: “for you see your calling” is best rendered “for see those who God has sent to call you”. The rest then would best read “they are not wise men after the wisdom of the world, they are not mighty according to the wisdom of the world, they are not noble according to the wisdom of the world. 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; God chose that which is foolish to the world to bring to shame that which is wise to the world and God chose that which is considered weakness by the world to bring to shame that which is considered strong by the world. 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: “base” is literally without family and “despised” is “counted as nothing”. In the context of the passage, that which the world considers foolish, despised, worthless – that is what God has chosen because that is who can accept the wisdom of God, because to the world, the wisdom of God is foolishness. By His choice God bring to no effect the things of the world. 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. If the “great” of the world, they that call the wisdom of God foolishness were able to be saved, they could stand in the presence of God and boast how their wisdom saved them and not God. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. But we that are saved are of God in (or by) Christ, and God has made Christ to us wisdom (true wisdom, not world wisdom), righteousness (the holiness of God), sanctification (set apart by God for God’s purpose), and redemption (bought back). So that if we boast, our only boast is the saving work of Jesus Christ and the grace of God. Verse 31 is quoted from Jer 9:23 |

29 | woman pastors | Matt 14:30 | CiY127 | 136764
That one is a little tougher. Most of the translations of the Scripture that have been done use "men" universally. The pronouns in the original manuscript may have been masculine, feminine, or neuter, but weren't necessarily translated that way. Most of the time when the Scriptures talk of matters of the Church it speaks of both men and women using one pronoun. So when Paul says that were set in the church Apostles, Profits, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teachers, it could mean either men or women. There are verses that on the surface or if taken out of context, could have Paul forbidding women to teach, preach or otherwise have a gift ministry, and since those seem to contradict what he spoke when he told about the gift ministries, those verses must be looked at in greater depth.
30 | is this an acceptable offering to God? | Judg 11:31 | CiY127 | 136754
Judges 11:31 (KJV)Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’S, and [see note that follows] I will offer it up for a burnt offering. "And" is "or" The Hebrew (Vav) is a connective particle and is rendered in many different ways. It is also used as a disjunctive, and is often rendered -or- (or with a negative, -nor-). Here, Jephthah’s vow consisted of two parts (1) He would either dedicate it to Jehovah (according to Lev 27); or (2)if unsuitable for this, he would offer it as a burnt offering. He performed his vow and dedicated his daughter to Jehovah by a perpetual virginity (vv 36, 39, 40) but he did not offer her as a burnt offering. |

31 | what happened to peter walking on the | Matt 14:30 | CiY127 | 136751
Matt 14:27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be you, tell me to come to you on the water. 29 And Jesus said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.[HE, Peter, WALKED ON WATER!] 30 But [BUT] when he saw [now he's no longer looking at Jesus and trusting in HIS WORD, but looking to the circumstances of the world] the wind boisterous, he was afraid [he trusted what his eyes told him more than he trusted what Jesus told him]; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. You'll notice Jesus didn't say "tough, you couldn't believe so I'm not going to save you" Instead he saved him and taught him to believe. He does the same for us everyday! |

32 | Didn't ALL things come from God, evil to | 1 John 1:5 | CiY127 | 136747
OK, what does the Bible say about angels? A lot! Why? Because God is LOVE, and the world is a war zone. The chief combatants are God and Satan, and what they are fighting over is YOU. Yes, people are the prize, the spoils of war, if you will. God wants to win people so He can love them, bless them, and give them everlasting life. The Devil wants to win people so he can destroy them (John 10:10a). Because both God and Satan are spirit beings, this ongoing battle is being fought primarily in the spiritual realm, with its manifestations made evident in the physical realm in which we live, that is, the world. Both Commanders-in-Chief, God and Satan, have spirit-being “troops” that they command in the battle. God has those whom the Bible calls “angels” (in both Hebrew and Greek the word for angels means “messengers”), and Satan has those referred to as “evil spirits” or “unclean spirits.” Spirit beings are beings with a life force and a composition that are different than those of a human being. A study of Scripture shows that all of these spirit beings were originally good “angels.” Beside Michael and Gabriel, the other highest-ranking angel was one whom Scripture refers to as the “angel of light” (and by many other names and descriptions). Angels were given free will, and it was “Lucifer” who rebelled against God and somehow persuaded one-third of the other angels to choose to join him in his attempt to usurp the throne of heaven (see Isa. 14:12ff; Ezek. 28:14ff; Rev. 12:3,4). They failed, were condemned to eventual extermination, and ejected from God’s presence. They now inhabit our world, where they are doing as much damage as they can to mankind before their time runs out and they are destroyed. |

33 | Didn't ALL things come from God, evil to | 1 John 1:5 | CiY127 | 136694
God is light and in him is no darkness at all. God created Lucifer as His second in command, the angel of light. And He created him with free will and Lucifer chose to do evil. Just as we each have free will to choose to do good or evil. It was man that decided to sin against God. God did not create evil, it was Lucifer's rebellion against God that brought evil into the world. Ezekiel 28:15: You [Lucifer] were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, till iniquity was found in you.
