21 | after death, right then, what? | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 46913
This is a quote from Psalms Psalms 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? See this concept is carried over by the words of Christ and Paul when it is mentioned again... John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Before the ascension of Christ no man had access to go to heaven when they died. They were held in Abrahams Bosom or Paradise, if they were righteous, then when Christ ascended and made the way..then men went up in his train. Now we also go there. |

22 | can women be pastors | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 55053
I think I follow the pattern of Christ in my question in the exact same spirit of his question...Luke 14:5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? Or WHAT IF YOU HAVE A OX fall into a ditch on the sabbath? Yes the scripture says not to use the OX on the sabbath but you in your heart know that God is not against you getting that OX out of that ditch even though some legalist could preach a perfect sermon using the scriptures to back him up that you must not do it." Yet you know that my "what if about ministry work by women is real, it happens all over the world, and they will be blessed if they ignore condemnation from modern "pharisees" who strain at a gnat and swallow a camel in not seeing the heart message of Paul which is not that woman cannot minister the Gospel in all the gifts of God but that she should not pridefully challenge a man's authority. The context that a woman should not teach was not "a woman should not Preach and teach the word" but rather "a woman should not teach a man or in other words usurp authority over a man, or in other words, question him in a challenging dishonest way not wanting answers but wanting to provoke, and she should be humble and kind and respect her husband. This passage people love to use does not say she should not teach the bible. The words "teach, nor usurp authority" go to gether they explain each other, the teach here means to teach down at a man such as scold him as a child. has nothing to do with teaching the Bible in church or anywhere else. But this has been so misquoted it is hard for anyone to read only what it says without fitting their own words in the sentence. I do so now just to make it clear that it did not say a woman cannot preach the word.

Interesting. I have many great writings from God gifted women who have written doctrinal truths from the Word down through church history. Seems that when I read it, I am getting taught and they are women and I am a man. I guess the Lord can't be put in a box. Praise God for that.
24 | "Lost books" of the Bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 84450
There is no evidence that there are any "lost books." There are references to books in the bible but the reference to the book does not say that the said book was ever considered scripture. To mention a book does not mean that there are any missing scriptures.

26 | what verse in the bible has a 33 yr gap | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 86541
not to start any kind of debate on it but, it could be that John was referring to all of the things Jesus did that revealed his Glory. such as... John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. Mark 9:1-3 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 2 Peter 1:16-18 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. |

27 | Knowing God's will under short notice | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 88189
I suggest a book by Richard Bolles, Called "What Color is Your Parachute" This book will help change your thinking and show you how to get a job where you want to live, in the type of work you want to be in, making the kind of money you want to make. This book is full of statistical proof that what it says works and the familiar methods that most people use do not. I can vouch for the methods becuase I used them to change careers and got the exact job I was looking for in my city when others said no one was hiring. The job I got was not in the newspaper or on the web, I followed the logical common sense methods in the book. God's will is not as limited as we sometimes think. God's will can be done in your life if you move out of state for a job or if you stay where you are at and get a job. I am in the market and I have had some opportunities come my way lately all out of state, I turned them down without prayer. Why? becuase I am not desperate. I know I am where I am supposed to be and I am do not need to be praying about moving. I will know when of if I am supposed to move somewhere and it will not be because of a job but because of a Call of God. You can know when you have a CALL OF GOD. It is not something we are not sure of. So until God Calls you to a radical move, seek a job where you are and don't believe the reports that there are no jobs. You only need one. It takes just as much prayer for God to lead you to that job he has for you in your city than it does to pray about moving. Get that book, it will tell you exactly how to do it. God Bless You. |

29 | Cain and Seth's wives descended from who | Genesis | Scribe | 45389
Yes this was always so obvious to me that I was never stumped by this question the first time I heard it. When I heard the question often repeated I realized that these people did not read the bible. Those that think it is a hard question to answer are being silly. I found out years later that it was presented in the Scopes Monkey trials in America as some sort of good point. I was surprised to learn that the defense did not answer it with simplicity as it is obvious that after through hundreds of years there were plenty of women to marry. And it is obvious that those that raise the question about marrying relatives do not study the Bible either. For instance if they were going to make it a point then they would use Noah not Cain. There is no question that Noahs sons had children that at least at the beginning had to marry first cousins. And what about Abraham. Remember the reason he thought he could truthfuly say that Sarah was his sister is because he said " she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife."Ge 20:12 So what is the point? That Cain should not have married a close relative? Or that they think that Cain found a woman in a land when he got there? Or is the point that Cain went out and found a land called Nod already inhabited? This is not true. Cain started a city and he named it Enoch and then when Moses is telling us about it he tells us it was in the location of what was then called Nod when Moses is writing about it. But it was not called Nod when Cain settled there but in order for the reader to know where Enoch was located Moses tells us it was in the Land of Nod that Cain built a city and called in Enoch. It is obvious that Cain took a wife from Adams camp. Genesis 4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. |

30 | what does the sons of God (6:1) mean? | Genesis | Scribe | 48208
This question is dealt with in a very thorough way in many commentaries that are available on the web for free. I think it has also been addressed here on this study forum. If you do a search on Gen 6:4 you will find excellent answers dealing with the scriptures. Read posts by Ron and Makarios and many others. I will not attempt at this time to re post all the great answers already given. But I will add a couple of thoughts as to why this error of the idea of angels mating with women still has not been put to rest. The truth of this passage is a foundational truth and if satan can muddy it up it goes a long way in helping him with his stratedgies against the godly. From the beginning of time one of the main wiles of the devil against the saints has been to get them to compromise with the world. You see this lesson here with the sons of God which are Adams camp and the children of men which are in Cains camp. The lesson was first taught in Gen 1 when God put a difference between the light and the darkness. If we take Genesis as a stand alone book for a moment, and use all fairness of logic in understanding the text, you would assume based on the way the text says the sons of god saw the daughters of men.. that some mention had been given of these sons of god sense no further explanation is given. And indeed we find at the end of Gen 4 that at the time of Seth.. then men began to call themselves by the name of the Lord. And no doubt call upon the Name of the Lord.. as they sought a better country. and a city not made by hands. However over here in Cains camp we see men making all sorts of tents and instruments of liesure and earthly industry. Now we know that putting it in todays activity we see no harm in inventing muscial instruments and making things of brass, and crafting tents after all Paul was a tent maker, but see this is an ancient text and seeing that Cains camp is making these things and not Adams means the sons of God were looking for a change, a redemption, a restoration to what Adam knew in the garden as promised to him in Gen 3, the time keeps going on and Enoch who lived some 360 years contemporary with Adam is prophesying the coming of the redeemer, and Enoch is having to contend with mockers from Cains camp that are teaching false doctrine. Yes even the same doctrine of Balaam. (read Jude) now what did balaam teach? that if the moabite women would mix with the Israelites they would be cursed by their own disobedience to God. You have this same lesson repeated throughout the bible all the way to Revelation. And then in Rev the words of Christ to the Church.. that they too are going to have this same attack from the powers of darkness to tempt them to listen to the doctrine of the Nicolatains, the Doctrine of Balaam, and the doctrine of Jezebel which are nothing more than a repeat of the same heart sin.. compromise with the world. Come out from among them and be ye seperate. That is still the message to the sons of God today. And so see why thinking this has to do with angels and women has no redeeming value or lesson, and yet my application is applicable throughout the bible. Follow the Holy Spirit and do not resist His Leading.Even if Jobs passage is about angels and that has not been proven.. It does not mean that these sons of god in Gen are angels. Nor does it mean that angels in Rev 2-3 when addressing the church meant angels, but instead it was a symbolic word given to mean pastors, and the reward that waits them if they are faithful, which is that they will be "as" the angels. In Lukes genealogy in tracing back Christ to Adam when he gets to Adam he says "which was the son of god". God bless you in your study of His Word. |

31 | Creation Account: Mythical or Not? | Gen 1:27 | Scribe | 85193
Having experienced the Living Word I am not in a condition to need to find any scientific proofs for the Creation story of Genisis. However if I could put myself in the shoes of an honest intellectual who wants to know whether or not he can rely on the scientific accuracy of Genesis or if it is a story far removed from the original account that contains some hints of the original but not to be taken literally I would start my investigation in the area of archealogy, astronomy, and geology, and see if there are evidences of the account that Genesis gives. We will learn that as it relates to the way stars are born their is the possibility of light before the actual formation of the sun just like this account gives, we find that the order of creation, water, land, vegetaion, etc agrees with scientific knowledge on the order of the way things came about, we see that there are archaelogical finds in the oldest civilizations such as the sumerians (same area as Babylon but older) that extend to the time of nimrod after the flood that reveal stories and records of a flood, and also possible first man and woman stories associated with a serpent, However the stories in babylonia is childish and grotesquely ridiculous showing, that it was a corruption from the original, where as the Genesis account is logical and perfect in its concepts, therefore would be the original story, and the others found in archaelogy are corruptions. So in short, the Bible's account of creation has never needed correction, and remains the same century after century, but the theories proposed by men have changed constantly and continue to do so, and even in the light of the constant changes (some as drastic as revising the time it takes a planet to form, from billions of years to only 3 million which was presented last week)even in the light of these kind of radical changes in view, the arrogant man will attempt to compare the genisis account with their current ideas and judge the Genisis account as fact or fiction based on the current fantasy. However the interesting thing is that the theories of modern science keep changing in favor of the Biblical account. 3 million years is a lot longer than 6 days but not as much as the billions they once held to. The hubble space telescope is sugesting to the observers that the earth might indeed be the center of the universe and that all things are expanding away from it. Go figure. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. |

34 | Adam and Eve ashamed of their nakedness? | Gen 3:7 | Scribe | 42794
The point is that as long as they did not know they were naked they had no shame. When they thought of being naked as a state of, not being covered when they should be, then they were ashamed. When adam hid himself it was because he knew he was naked. The point seems to be that he now knew he needed a covering for his sin. Genesis 3:7-11 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? Innocence is better than knowledge of evil. Some may think they need to know about the details of sin but it is better to remain innocent. Paul said it was a shame to speak of those things that homosexuals do in secret. And this reveals the holy mind of the redeemed saint. We should follow after that which is good and flee all appearance of evil. No greater testimony does a young person have than to say I was saved at 6 and never messed with drugs, alcohol or sex. These young people may think they don't have a testimony worth sharing because they are accustomed to hearing testimonies of bank robbers and gangsters who were born again and changed by the grace of God. Those are wonderful testimonies but it is a greater story to hear how God has kept a youth from the age of accountability to adulthood away from all sorts of sins and even kept them innocent of the details of what others do in secret. And for those that were once involved in every kind of wicked work, God can renew the mind so that the dead works are purged and even the saint cannot remember the details. Innocence is to be cherished not maligned. Stay away from ministries that say they are called to expose the wicked things men do in secret, God's word has not changed, it is still a shame to speak about them. It is enough to call it sin without polluting wholesome thoughts with the details of the sin. |

37 | What do the 120 years pertain to? | Gen 6:3 | Scribe | 56053
Have you looked this up in commentaries and in other versions? I doubt you will find a commentary that states this had to do with lifespan of men. Not only does the context demonstrate that God was giving men 120 years to repent, but the time frame until the flood came also backs this up. The age of men after has at times seemed to be about 140 years in some cases but for many thousands of years the age David gave of men being allowed to live about 80 years seems to be what God established this side of the flood. Psalms 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. I just did a brief look up in about 5 commentaries and they all said that the 120 years hear in Gen was in reference to 120 years until he would bring the flood to judge them. Not sure where the idea that it was a statement regarding lifespans came from, I never thought that when I read it the first time. Though I have heard others that thought that. I guess it sounds more like that from the KJV which is my favorite so it might have been "preached" around through the years as being somekind of declaration of lifespan by those who read it wrong. |

38 | Who were the "sons of God" in Gen 6:4? | Gen 6:4 | Scribe | 43716
I am not sure why you responded under my note. The purpose of my note was to point out that Adam was called the son of God and that this adds to the idea that the "sons of god" in Gen 6 is the camp of Adam and the daughters of men are of Cains camp. Jesus being called the son of God is different altogether. He was equal with God.

40 | What is God's name? | Exodus | Scribe | 86617
Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. Genesis 26:24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake. Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: Exodus 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. Exodus 3:13-14 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. The Truth is that God does not go by just one proper name like Tom, Joe, or Harry. He Gives Covenant Personality Names as the answer to the question What is your name. God is GOD, He is the I AM. I AM what? Whatever you need God to be in your life to make you perfect and to equip you to be in the image of Christ, He is that to you. Do you need Health? He is the I AM YOUR HEALTH, Do you need Faith.. He is the I AM YOUR FAITH.. Do you need to be able to speak boldly to do his will as Moses needed to.. He is I AM YOUR MOUTH AND TONGUE. If people would grasp that about God they would Call Him by his real name, which is a Faith expression of your heart that you beleive HE provides for you all that You need to be made more like Him, and they would leave off the senseless haggling over the proper spelling of Hebrew words used prior to the structure of vowels assigned long after the scrptures were written. The original Hebrew scriptures did not use vowels in writing, therefore there are questions about how the words were pronounced. Later Hebrew scholars restructered the Hebrew language and added vowels. However when you understand that God is not a man and is not limited to a "proper" name, you understand that it does not matter exactly how YHWH was originally pronounced, what is important is that we understand Who God is to Us. Are we having Faith that He is our Holiness? If not, then do we really think God is going to pat us one the back for pronouncing the word YHWH correctly? Of course not. This obsession with the correct name of God has produced more than one cult and I am sure more are trying to form even as we speak. It is just another way for those that want a precept to follow rather than intimacy with God. So they have precept upong precept, line upon line, that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. |
