21 | Why were Adam and Eve unable to resist? | Gen 3:6 | Robert Nicholson | 30008
I believe we are into the question of free will. God did not put humans on the earth to be robots, but looked for the obedience of their hearts to him. Adam was not deceived (1 Tim.2:14, he willingly disobeyed God. Eve fell into the age old trap of Satan "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her: and he did eat. Adam and Eve made a conscious decision to break God's command thinking that they would be made wise. "when lust hath conceived it bringth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death" James 1:15 The Lord Jesus defeated the temptations of satan by quoting the word of God. Adam and Eve had a word from God, but ignored it and were drawn away by the lust of the eye and the pride of life. Robert |

22 | Is seed of the woman the believer? | Gen 3:15 | Robert Nicholson | 27484
I believe that the seed of the woman is Christ. My understanding is that in Gen.3 we have the beginning of the Godly line through which Christ the redeemer would come. "it or he will bruise thy head" or in other words we read "for the devil sineth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifest that he might destroy the works of the devil".1 John 3:8 "Thou shalt bruise his heal" The Lord Jesus endured the buffeting of satan through his life on earth and on the cross satan appeared to have the victory. But God raised Christ from the dead. |

23 | How many children did Adam and Eve have? | Gen 3:20 | Robert Nicholson | 66102
Greetings Churchclerk: The short answer is the Bible does not tell us the total. However, Eve is "the mother of all living" (Gen. 3:20) In Gen. 4:16-17 if we read it carefully we will see that Cain already had a wife when he moved to the land of Nod. Since Eve is the mother of all living, we then have to assume he married his sister. This would suggest that Adam and Eve had other children before the death of Abel. Adam was one hundred and thirty when Seth was born "and the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters." (Gen. 5:4) I think when we consider these scriptures we could say that Adam and Eve had many children. It seems that God only high lights three people with Seth carrying on as the righteous line from Adam Robert |

25 | why didn't God sentence Cain to death? | Gen 4:15 | Robert Nicholson | 54916
Elice Fox: First of all, when we ask the question "why did God?" we put ourselves in the position of the creature questioning the Creator. Cain was given a fate possible worse than death "Cain went out from the presence of the Lord".Genesis 4:16 At this point in God's revelation of truth to humans God had not specifically set down laws regarding murder. It was not until after the flood that this law was given in Gen. 9:6 I find it interesting that even after this law was given that God made provision for manslaugher by providing cities of refuge for the person who killed a person by accident. Another example of God's grace is King David who took another man's wife, committed adultry with her and then sent her husband into the heat of the battle with orders to his men that Urriah should be killed. David's sin cost him dearly, but did not cost him his life. In Genesis 18:25 we read Abraham's words " Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?" In a more general sense we could ask "why did God not wipe all humankind from the earth after the fall? Or why does God put up with humans today?" I believe it is all of his Mercy Love and Grace, he is the one whose ways are past finding out. Robert |

26 | Don't understand Genesis 6:1-4 | Gen 4:26 | Robert Nicholson | 37154
Greetings Misch I believe that the sons of God refer to the godly line of Seth. It would appear as the population of this line of people "who called upon the name of the Lord", that the godless line of Cain also mutiplied. It appears that this marriage between the two lines was grievous to the Lord. I do not think that these are fallen angels "who kept not their first estate (Jude 6) Angels are usually sexless in gender and marriage is unknown among them (Matt. 22.30) The sinful state of the earth of that time was very great and was destroyed by the flood except for 8 souls. 27 | 2 people who did not experience death. | Gen 5:24 | Robert Nicholson | 84967
Greetings SandyP: The other person you are thinking about is Enoch the father of Methuselah and a descendent of Seth. In Hebrews 11:5 we read of Enoch and are given more understanding of his situation: "By faith Enoch was translated (changed) that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." Enoch is a beautiful picture of Christians who will be alive when Christ comes, they will be changed in a moment and will not see death. It is also interesting that Enoch was translated before God judged the earth by the flood. Robert Nicholson |

28 | Before the Flood | Gen 6:4 | Robert Nicholson | 37472
John: An interesting question. I do not believe that Adam who was made in the image of God, began as a caveman looking for fire. In fact he was given dominion over all the earth and was caregiver to God's creation. The Bible is silent as to how long Adam walked with God in innocence. Nevertheless, Adam was God's link to the human race which would develop. In light of this God taught Adam many profound things which would be passed to his people. As we approach the time of the flood we find that physically and mentally humans are gifted. Sadly, their unrepentant wickedness brought judgment on all except for 8 souls. Just a few thoughts: I am open for suggestions Robert |

29 | Explanation of all the races? | Gen 10:32 | Robert Nicholson | 54647
msbblc: You ask difficult questions. We know that only 8 people were saved from the flood as you have rightly pointed out. "And the sons of Noah that went forth from the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japeth: and Ham is the father of Canaan" Gen. 9:18 In verse 19 we are told that from these three sons of Noah "was the whole earth overspread." Noah made a prophetic statement regarding each of his sons in Gen 9 25-27 a) The posterity of Ham through Canaan would be cursed to a servile standing in the world. b) Shem would have a special relationship with the Lord God. c) Japheth would be enlarged, I believe meaning that he would be father of many nations. In Gen. 10 we are given the generations of the sons of Noah after the flood. In Gen. 11 as you have pointed out already the tower of Babel and the dispersal of the people over the earth. From "Tegg's Essential Chronology of the Old Testament it is suggested that: Shem is the father of those in early Asia. Ham the father of the African nations. Japhet the father of the European nations. I hope this does not confuse you. Robert |

30 | Did God actually die on the cross? | Gen 22:8 | Robert Nicholson | 66369
Dalida: I know it may sound like a play on words, but the truth is Christ died upon the cross in obedience to God. God is eternal, death has no claim upon him; that is why he had to send his Son who was made in the likeness of men. In Gen.22:8 God did provide a lamb for the burnt offering and that was his own son. "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all" Romans 8:32 We read "that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world." 1 John 4:14 Jesus was pointed out by John the baptist "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" John 1:29 The Lord Jesus Christ is truly a man who lived on this earth, suffered and died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day and is seated on the right hand of God. He is truly God manifest in the flesh. In Isaiah we read "It pleased the Lord (Jehovah) to bruise him" It was Christ who died for our sins 1 Cor. 15 The topic of the Godhead or the Trinity is very difficult to understand, that we have one God who is seen as three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I believe it is incorrect to say God died. When Christ died upon the cross God laid on him the iniquity of us all and was totally satisfied in the sacrifice of his Son in that he raised him again the third day. Robert |

31 | an egyptian king had arisen | Exodus | Robert Nicholson | 36169
Dear Lovetopraisehim At the end of Genesis we read about the last days of Joseph. He was raised up of God to deliver both his own people in addition to being a blessing to Eygpt. In Exodus 1:8 "Now there arose a King who knew not Joseph" He was wary of the prosperity and posterity of the children of Israel and developed a plan which would put them into bondage. This bondage was increased, but instead of bringing them under control, it seemed that the more they were persecuted the greater their blessing. The King then ordered the midwives to kill the sons which would be born to Israel. However, we find that God was in control and used the King's daughter to save the one he would eventually use in the deliverance of his people from Eygpts bondage. In fact God prepared him as he was educated in the Eygptian culture. We read that Moses made a choice "choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season" (Hebrews 11:25) Moses murdered a Eygption and had to flee for his life into the desert where be became a shepherd. It was there that God called him from the burning bush. It was at this holy place that Moses met "I AM" for the first time. The conditions which the children of Israel found themselves in when Moses was called is found in God's words to Moses "I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Eygpt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; I know their sorrows"(Exodus 3:7) Peace Robert |

I believe the Angel of the Lord and the cloud are one. The cloud was a sign of wrath (darkness) to the Egyptians and a sign of favor (light) to Israel. In the context it was God's way of protecting those he had redeemed from the salvery of Egypt. Robert |

33 | why pomegranates | Ex 28:35 | Robert Nicholson | 64645
Pheobe1: We know that the garmets of the hight priest were given in exact detail from God and that they are types of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Exodus 28:31-35 we have a description of the robe of the ephod. It is a seamless robe of blue and around the skirt there are pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet. As brother Scribe has pointed out the pomegranate speaks of fuirtfulness and the golden bells which would ring as the priest moved toward the holiest of all speaks of testimony. The promegranates: blue, purple and scarlet: Blue would remind us of heaven from whence Christ came and now is seated at the right hand of God as our high priest forever. Purple: is the color of royalty again reminding us of Christ our King. Scarlet: speaks of redemption. Our sins were as scarlet and Christ shed his blood to redeem us and cleanse us from our sins. Why Pomegranates? I will give you a dictionary definition "pomegranate--When cut, it displays in rows seeds pellucid, like crystal, tinged with red. Her modesty is not on the surface, but within, which Jesus Christ can see into" Think of the inner beauty! Does this not remind us of Christ who outwardly "there is no beauty that we should desire him" Isaiah 53:2b In Song of Solomon 4:13 Pomegranates are associated with pleasant fruit: Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits: camphire, with spikenard," In Song of Solomon 6:11 and 7:12 the pomegranates plants are budding. This is a sign of growth and future fruit. These are just a few thoughts. Robert |

35 | Why didn't Moses enter the Promised Land | Num 20:12 | Robert Nicholson | 66857
Controling: In Numbers 20: 7-11 Moses was asked by the Lord to speak to the rock before the people and was promised that water would flow. Instead, of speaking to the rock as the Lord had commanded, he railed on the people saying "hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of the rock? And Moses lifed up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice..." The water poured forth. In verse 12 "But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, " Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them." Moses unbelief is shown by his disobedience to do what God had told him. Moses confirms this in Deut.1:37, Deut.3: 26, 27 |

36 | Prophesy of Jewish blindness of Savior? | Deut 18:15 | Robert Nicholson | 30136
Dear brother: New Creature in Christ In Isaiah we read "For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of a deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered" Isaiah 29:11 This verse is referred to by Paul in Rom. 11:8 God gives the reason for this in verse in Isaiah 29:13 We see the reality of this in the words of the Lord Jesus as he wept over Jerusalem: "If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day the things which belong to thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes." Luke 19:32 We must remember that it was Israel nationally that was set aside because of unbelief and that that the grace of God was extended to individuals who accepted him. "He came unto his own (people)and his own received him not. But as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" (John 1:11-12) The amazing thing is that God shows us how his will is brought about. In Romans 11: we learn that Israel has been set aside as a nation because of unbelief. They are the tame olive branches which have been broken off, that the gentiles might be grafted in. The warning to the gentiles is not to boast, that this is all of the grace of God. In verse 24 he speaks of the natural branches who will be grafted in again. "For I would not, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystrey, lest you should be wise in your own conceits: that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. In other words God has set his people aside nationally, that the gentiles might be saved. He will again turn to Israel when his purposes with Gentiles are fulfilled. I hope this is helpful Your brother by his grace alone Robert |

37 | What man commanded? | Josh 10:13 | Robert Nicholson | 66244
Angelface: Joshua is the man: "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day" (Joshua 10:13) |

38 | Where does it say God appointed kings | 1 Sam 8:22 | Robert Nicholson | 64384
Greetings mchristo: In 1 Samuel 8 we find that the elders of Israel came to Samuel and cited his old age and the bad behaviour of his sons as a non confidence vote. Samual talked to the Lord and then to the people and basically showed them how they would lose their freedom which they had under God by placing themselves under a king. We read "Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said Nay; but we will have a king over us; that we may be like all nations; and that our king may judge us, and to out before us and fight our battles" v. 19-20 When Samuel brought these words to the Lord "the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king" v. 22 I believe this is an example where God allowed his people to have their own way even if the consequences are not in their best interests. God had promised to be their God forever in Gen. 17:7 I hope this helps Robert |

40 | Why does God kill and innocent child? | 2 Sam 12:15 | Robert Nicholson | 67040
Greetings cevw: This is a very tough question. Why is a question which we often ponder and in some cases we may have to wait for eternity to understand. God is love and cares for each precious soul which comes into this world. God is also Holy and he will judge sin. An example of this is seen at Calvary. We could ask "Why did Jesus die?" And yet it has been said that in the death of Christ on the cross, that Calvary is where God's love and justice met. In the case of David's son we know from 2 Samuel 12:14 that it was the result of David's sin that the child died. Why did the Lord take this child away? We do not know the future and what this child may have been preserved from. In V.23 David states "...I shall go to him, but he will not return to me" David knew that the child was safe in God's care and that one day he too would die and be with the child again. Our breath is in God's hand. Sadly, even in our world today we see the results of sin on children born. Due to humankind's selfish greed, sinful lifestyle and evil power, thousands of children die each day through no fault of their own. Our heavenly Father who sees the sparrow fall cares for each one. Robert |
