I believe that the forgiveness of our sins is unconditional. In Eph.2:8-9 "for by grace are you saved through faith, that not of yourselves it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any should boast. When I look at myself as a lost guilt sinner, I find that there was nothing I could within myself to merit God's salvation and forgiveness. It was God by his Spirit who worked within my heart and drew me to Christ. It was God by his Spirit through his word who showed to me my lost condition and sinnership before him. Thus by his Spirit he gave me repentance and opened my understanding to accept that Christ procured my redemption upon the cross. My act of faith was simply rested on what God had shown to me that the work and worth of the Savior's work was sufficient to me my terrible need. I believe there are two sides to forgivesness: First because of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross he has been given grounds whereby lost sinners can be forgiven. However, the sinner cannot come into the good of this forgiveness until they are ready to accept it by faith. The Bible does not teach universal salvation. In Romans 3:22 we read "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all who believe, for there is no difference" We see here that forgiveness is offered to all, but only those who believe or put faith in Christ come into the good of what Christ has offered. Without faith there is no forgiveness. I respectfully disagree on your thought that the unbliever is potentially forgiven positionally and not experimentally. I believe the word of God supports the truth that the unbeliever is condemned already. Jesus said "He that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God" John 3:18 You propose ". Every person born into this world is born fully forgiven and legally justified." I believe that every person born into this world is born a lost sinner and are under the condemnation of God. Propitiation as found in 1 John 2:2 speaks of the sacrifice of Christ from God's perspective. When Christ died on the cross his sacrifice satisfied the righteous claims of God's holy throne, thereby, providing God a ground or mercy seat upon which he could forgive sinners. Sinners must repent of their sins and place total faith in the work of Christ before they can be forgiven. Should they chose to carry on in unbelieve they will die unforgiven and be lost forever. Goodmorning brother Ray: Your post has made me think again. As you are aware the word "Godhead" is used 3 times in the New Testament and is found in Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, and Col. 2:9 I checked each in Strong's concordance and found the following: In Acts 17:29 the transliterated greek word used is "Theios"#2304 an adj. which is defined as a general name of dieties or divinities used by the Greeks. Interestingly, the same word 2304 is used twice in 2 Peter 1:3,4. In verse 3 KJV "divine power" and in v.4 "divine nature" Both in the lower case. In Romans 1:20 the "Theiotes" # 2305 a noun is used and is defined as divinity, divine nature. However, in Col.2:9 the word is "Theotes"#2320 a noun defined as the state of being God, Godhead. It appears that this is the application which would remain Capitalized. Getting back to your original question on Acts 17:29. It would be my personal preference to accept the NASB translation with lower case "divine nature" which reflects the meaning of the word more accurately, rather than change it to "godhead". My reason for this is to avoid confusing "godhead" in Acts 17:29 with "Godhead" in Col. 2:9. I believe the term "Godhead" in Col 2:9 is a more scriptual word for our triune God than the Trinity which is not used in the scriptures. Teacher: It has been said that we can choose our friends, but we cannot choose our family. We enter the family of God by faith in the finished work of Christ. The whole idea of "choice" when it comes to Christ and salvation is often misunderstood. The relationship between a person and God is permanent since it is God who has done the work through Christ and our family security is not dependent on our obedience, but is totally dependent on the work of Christ on the cross. It has been often said that a human choice does not save us, but resting faith on the finished work of Christ does. We must realize that in order for us to come to the understanding of the significance of the work of Christ, it must be a work of the Spirit of God. When the Spirit of God reveals this truth to a lost sinner, the choice part is our willingness to accept or rest upon what God has revealed to us. I believe it is a lie of the wicked one to give lost sinners the idea that they can be saved on their own terms and simply making a choice in their own time. In Romans 8:16 "The Spirit itself (Himself) beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ..." Often those who are children do not realize what a high calling is theirs. As with being in a natural family we can not choose to deny our roots, our DNA will always attach us to our parents, Likewise, in a Spiritual sense, we cannot choose to leave the family of God since we are indwelt by his Spirit and we are his forever. In both the natural and spiritual family relationships it is possible for members to lose contact, to turn against family members, to be estranged from our parents; however, the bottom line we still are children. Greetings Henri: I do not believe that any one of us have anything to boast. In other words I have no right to say that my sins are less than that of another person as far as God is concerned. "What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have proven both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin" Rom. 3:9 After we read the characteristics of all v 10-18 We find in verse 19 that the law which shows us God's holiness and as such "every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God" Regardless of our life, whether we are on the clean footpath of the self-righteous or have dropped into the cesspool of sin with the immoral and the murders: we are all found guilty in the sight of God. The good news is that God in his grace has provided a way whereby the guilty sinner can be cleared of all guilt. "Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" Rom. 5:1 Should we reject Christ we know that we will be judged according to our works. Jesus showed that there are degrees of judgment relative to responsiblity. He said "Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city." Matt.10:15 In other words the cities at the time of Christ who rejected him would suffer more than Sodom and Gommorrha in the day of Judgement. We should note however, that they will both be judged. Henri, I think we should remember that Christ gave his live so that we could be forgiven from all sin. This includes what we would call the terrible sins and the minor sins, nevertheless, he suffered more than tongue can tell for sin not his own. We also know that if we continue unrepentant in our sin, regardless of how great a sinner we are, we will perish in our sin. In Luke 13 it appears that the people were comparing certain people who had perished. Jesus asked them "Suppose ye that these were sinners above all?" v.2 "Jesus said "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3 Peace to you in his precious name. Nolan: Just a few thoughts on the "Truth" As you have mentioned Jesus is the truth personified. He is the truth absolute. I agree truth is revealed by the Holy Spirit through his word. The revealation of truth is often progressive. In Romans 1 Paul as it were laying a level playing field for the whole world in their responsiblity to the claims of God. This climaxes in Rom. 3 where he shows the whole world guilty before God. In Rom.1: 18-20 teaches that God will hold humans responsible for the truth which he has revealed to them. In Romans 1 we have God's creation as a witness to him "his eternal power and Godhead. In Romans 2 we find that those who were not under the law (Gentiles) "which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness..."V.15 Nolan, what you think based on the above scriptures that we could say that every human being has a sense of God and what he desires? Hi Gamewiz Romans 1:20 is teaching us that there will be no one who will have an excuse such as " I didn't know". God has left a witness of himself to all humans and they are responsible for what they have done with the light that he has given them. God is able to deal with the hearts of those we cannot reach with the gospel. If humans decide to turn against the light which they have been given they will be lost and without excuse. I have heard many missionary stories about people who lived in ignorance of the gospel as we know it. Some yearned to know more about their creator. They realized that there was a higher power and yet they did not know him. We must remember that God knows our hearts and hears our cry. The story continues, that in a country a young man hears the gospel and is saved. God puts it upon his heart to reach out to others in far off lands. God guides him to the very place where people where wishing to know God. It is amazing that these people who did not know much about God, eagerly took the gospel in and where saved. Many today are preachers and teachers in their own country. God can and will reach those who wish to know him. The important thing to remember that there is only one way to heaven and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ alone. God bless you |

Bocfloyd Greetings: I would like to cover a few verses which make it clear about the human heart and the way to heaven. The Lord Jesus told his disciples "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no man cometh to the Father, but by me" (John 14:6) Peter reinforces this "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, wherey we must be saved" (Acts 4:12) You raised the possibility of a "person who dies and his conscience and heart is not evil" Again God declares "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) In Romans 3:10 we read "There is none righteous no not one" and in V. 23 "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Our heart in its natural condition has nothing about it or in it that would merit favor with God. Our sin has separated us from God. Our deceitful heart would try and tell us that we can be saved by own own efforts or our own inner goodness, which is a lie which if we believe it will damn us for eternity. One thing I love about the Lord Jesus was how clear and plain he presented eternal trues. He is the only way and the only name under heaven whereby we must be saved. It is important that this message is spread far and wide with the knowledge that God by his Spirit would bring lost sinners to himself. According to the Lord Jesus Christ there are no alternative ways to be made right before God. Doing the best I can or even if I were to offer my life in religious endeavors, or perhaps spend all the I have on the poor, however, If I know not Christ as Savior all is in vain. God cannot overlook sin and can only offer complete forgiveness to those who will place complete faith in the finished work of Christ. What we sometimes find hard to comprehend is that God does not owe us anything. We as creatures of his creation have no right to question his righteousness from a human perspective. Greetings: When we are saved our sins are forgiven. However, we forget at times that God's view is eternal. The work of Christ has cleared us from all guilt forever Romans 5:1 On the other hand we read these wonderful words written by Paul, "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (1 Timothy 1:15) Paul has written much about the daily warfare within the christian. Although, we have been freed from the power of sin, we still have the old nature which we must put in the place of death daily. That is what is wonderful about God's salvation. In ourselves we will never be righteous. However, when we trusted Christ our sins were forgiven and we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. Sniper: I believe that all souls who go to be with Christ are redeemed by his precious blood. His sacrifice satisfied the Holy and Righteous claims of God's throne and provided a ground whereby he forgive sinners. One example in scripture is that of King David whose infant son died. David said "Now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me" 2 Sam. 2:23 It would appear that David believed his child was with the Lord and that the day was coming when he would go to be with him. I realize that there is much debate on this issue. However, when we consider the words of Jesus "Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not". Little children, aborted babies and people who are born mentally incompetant are not accountable to God. I believe that they are covered with the blood and that millions are with Christ today. Consider the stat that 1 baby dies every 33 seconds in this world today. Some are born into a world of extreme poverty and war. We think it a great tragedy when they die and yet if we think about it they are with the Lord Jesus. We have to take care in setting ages and leave it with God who knows the heart of all. The word "Good" as found in Strongs Concordance: Word # 18 Transliterated Greek word "Agathos" an Adjective has the following definition: 1.of good constitution or nature 2.useful, salutary good, pleasant, 3. agreeable, joyful, happy excellent, 4. distinguished upright, honourable I have noticed that you mention good as meaning perfection. However, we must remember that in the scriptures perfection has more than one meaning: First, perfect and secondly meaning a level of maturity. You will notice that the verse from Romans 5:7 their is a difference between a righteous man and a good man. I believe that when the scriptures speak of a good man, the adjective is referring to uprightness and honourable. I do not think this contradicts Romans 3 "that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There are people like Cornealious who before he was saved was considered an upright man who respected God and yet he needed to be saved. Marquita: I will try to answer your important question from the Bible. First, you have indicated that you have excepted Christ as your savior. For this we praise his precious name. Paul wrote "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (1 Tim. 1:15) What kind of sinners did Jesus come to save? Jesus said "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10) In other words if we are lost sinners we are the ones whom he seeks by his Holy Spirit. When he shows us our sinfulness and need of forgiveness, it is at this point that we find our need and forgiveness are resultant from the work of Christ on the cross. This results in eternal life. In Romans 3 Paul in great detail shows that there is no difference between humans, that there is none righteous, there is none that are good; in fact "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23) However, the scripture makes it clear that if we profess to be forgiven, to be saved and continue to live a sinful lifestyle, that we do not have eternal life. This truth is given in 1 Cor.6: 9-11 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." The important thing to notice in this passage is that Paul emphasizes "such were some of you, but you are washed,etc" It is people whom God loves and it is people he wants to cleanse and make new creators in him. A person cannot help who there are by genetics, but they do make choices to their lifestyle. I will try to explain: A hetersexual person before they were saved may have committed immorality in the sight of God by sleeping around. When they get saved, it is God's desire that that sinful lifestyle would stop. Nevertheless, they are still hetersexual with all the feelings and drives which they had before they were saved. The difference is that by the Spirit of God they are shown that their former sex practices are sin and by the grace of God they practise self-control in their life. The same is true for a person who is gay/lesbian, before we are saved we have certain desires which may have resulted in an immoral lifestyle in the sight of God. After we are saved, the Holy Spirit through God's word will make it clear that God does not condone same-sex relationships. However, if they are in Christ, the Holy Spirit can and will give strength to practise self control in avoiding sinful practices. I think based on the verses above that a person whether hetersexual or Gay cannot get saved if they wish to continue on in a sinful lifestyle. With this type of attitude there is no repentance which is totally necessary before we accept Christ. It is a creational truth, that God wishes man and women to come together in loving marriage and become one in Christ. This is the only type of relationship which the Bible allows. Greetings Corky: There is no contradiction between the two scriptures you have cited. In Romans 8: 38-39 is a note of victory to those who are "in Christ Jesus"v.1 In verse 35-39 we are told this wonderful truth that there is absolutely nothing that can separate the believer from the love of Christ. Our security is anchored in the worth and work of our Lord Jesus Christ who paid the ultimate price for our redemption. The eternal life which is ours when we trust him is a gift which is given to us the moment we rest in the finished work of Christ. Romans 6:23 In our lives there may be things which will cloud our daily fellowhsip with God, but there is nothing that cancell the relationship we have in him through Christ. In Matt. 25 we must remember the entire chapter is talking about profession. In other words in this world we have many people who profess to be Christians. The reality of that profession will be tested when Christ comes. Thus we will have those who have never known him exposed for what they are. The key is "do we know Christ as our Savior and Lord?" or are we simply hoping that our works or church affiliation will make us fit for heaven. Tani544: In Romans 9 we gave Paul's desire for Israel "that they might be saved" V1 and in verse 2-3 he shows that they are going about it in the wrong way. Is this chapter only to the Jew? I think not. In V.12 Paul writes "there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. I believe that verse 9 is speaking of salavtion by faith in the finished work of Christ. Consider: "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus" or Jesus as Lord. This is referring to a person who is willing to have Christ as the Lord of their life. "and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead" The person who believes that the Lord Jesus Christ was rasied from the dead bodily, simply believes God in all other parts of the death, buriel and resurrection of Christ. Paul in 1 Cor. 15 emphasises the importance of the resurrection of Christ which is the foundation for our hope. "Thou shalt be saved" There is no sense of doubt in this statement. In verse 10 we read "with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth coffession is made unto salvation." The moment the Holy Spirit reveals to us that Christ is the saviour, by faith we rest upon him and are born from above by the Holy Spirit. Thou Shalt be saved. The word salvation encompasses much more that simply being saved from the penalty of sin. When we trust Christ we are saved from the penalty of our sin. By his indwelling Spirit we are saved from the power of sin in our daily life. By the Word of his power we shall be saved from the very presence of sin when he comes again for us. Dear Lost-n-Ms: Your nick name describes one of the first steps in getting to know God. Jesus said "The Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost". In other things in life we often say that the first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge that we have one. The problem every human being has when it comes to getting to know God is sin. Our sin regardless of our background or religion comes between us and God. The problem is that we are helpless within ourselves to do anything about it. Romans 3:23 tells us "that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" Because of this we need a Saviour. Glory has advised you to read John's Gospel. In John 3:16 we read some wonderful news, probably the greatest message ever to fall on human ear. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) I would like to break the verse down. a) "For God so loved the world" This tells us of God who saw us in all our need and even though we did not deserve his love, he loved us anyhow. b) How do we know that he loves us? "That he gave his only begotten Son" Gave him to what? He sent his Son the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven into this world in order that he might be the lamb of God on the cross. It was on the cross that Jesus bore the wrath of God which should have been ours forever. c) "that whosoever" Who is this message sent to? Whosoever, meaning all people. God speaks to us by his Spirit and brings conviction to our soul, he wants us to realize our sinful condition and need of a Saviour. d) "believeth in him" What does this mean? It means that when I realize that I am a lost helpless sinner that I am willing to accept my place as a sinner and accept God's provision which is found in Jesus Christ alone. Believing in him is like placing faith in him and his ability to save. When God by his Spirit shines this glorious message into our dark hearts, by faith we rest upon the finished work of Christ on the cross. e) "Should not perish, but have everlasting life" We are born into this world condemned already in the sight of God. When we trust Christ our sins are forgiven, the condemnation for sin is taken away and we become a new creature in Christ. To have everlasting life is to be indwelt by the Spirit of God the moment we believe. This is the moment we begin our relationship with God, we are placed in his family as children and by his word through his Holy Spirit we grow in him. It is my prayer that as you think on these things and read God's word, that God will continue to work with your heart and that you might have the joy of sins forgiven and peace with God. Beva: Please forgive me for interjecting these thoughts. I agree that the moment we believe we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and receive eternal life. In John 3:6 Jesus made it clear that we are born of the Spirit or born from above. "God hath sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts" (2 Cor. 1:21) At that moment we became a new creature in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). The moment we are saved we are baptised by the Holy Spirit into the church which is his body."For by One Spirit are we all baptised into one body..." 1 Cor. 12:13. We notice that what we have received is all a work of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This change which he makes within our hearts is permananent and we can accept his promise "I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish..." (John 10:28) In John 5:24 the Lord Jesus shows that the new birth is instanious and that all people are divided into 2 groups: Those who have life or those who have not life. Listen to these words: "Truly, Truly, I say unto you, he that heareth my Word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation (judgment); but is passed from death unto life"(John 5:24) When we rest by faith on the work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, a) We pass from death unto life and we are promised that "we shall not come into judgment". The moment we are in Christ we are safe eternally any other conclusion is an insult to the work of Christ. Why then do we get baptized? 1. Because the Lord Jesus commanded it. In Acts2:41 we read "And they that gladly received his word" This means they were saved "were baptised". In other words we are baptized after we are saved as an act of obedience unto Christ. Our water baptism is an outward picture of what has happened within. In Acts 11 Peter discussed what happened as he preached and points out that those who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ were given the Holy Spirit within: "I as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave the like gift as he did unto us who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; What was I, that I should withstand God?" (Acts 11: 15-17) The Ethiopian Eunuch is another example of a man who was born again before he was baptized. Consider the order: 1. God was working on the man's heart and asked Philip to go to him in the desert. He could not understand Isaiah 53. Philip began at the same passage to preach unto him Jesus. 2. As they travelled along them came to water. The man asked Philip "What doth hinder me to be baptized? Philip said "If thou believest with all thine heart, thous mayest. And he answered "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God". The man was already born again at this point, obviously Philip had preached that a believer should be baptized after conversion. 3. He and Philip went down into the water and he was baptized. The question you originally asked, could a person be lost should they die, if they were born again, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God but were not baptized. The words of Jesus from John 5:24 answer this "Hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation" Robert |

Greetings Sniper: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How than shall they call on him whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? as it is written how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things. (Romans 10:13-15) Would you agree that there is a difference between hearing and hearing? It is one thing to physically hear and another to hear with understanding. Only the Spirit of God can give understanding of spiritual things. Greetings Searcher56: Just a thought on Romans 10:9 "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus" or (Jesus as Lord) To be willing to accept Jesus as Lord could be connected with our repentance when we take our place as a lost sinner and acknowledge that he is Lord and Savior. "and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" Romans 10:9 When we rest by faith in the finished work of Christ it is God which works within our heart and gives us eternal life. In John 1:13 talks about the new birth which is of God or in John 3 where it is referred to as "born from above".
