161 | Do all those in Romans 1:18-20 hear? | Rom 10:17 | Robert Nicholson | 76480
Brother Searcher56: I believe we could say that those in Rom. 1:18-20 have been given a testimony of God seen in "the invisible things of him from the creation...". In verse 19 "Because that which may be know of God is evident among them; for God hath showed it to them". However, in verse 21-32 we see that they turned against the light which God gave them. First of all in v. 21 they gave up on God and then in v. 24 we read "wherefore God also gave them up". "they are without excuse" v.20 this would show us that God is righteous and shows that he does give them light from which they turn away. In John 1:9 we read of "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world" In other words we are given light for which we are accountable. What do you thing? 162 | cut off | Rom 11:22 | Robert Nicholson | 33287
Brother Zach: To suggest that we can lose our salvation goes against the promise of the Lord Jesus "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" John 3:16 Your reference to Romans 11 21- 22: This chapter is discussing how that Israel because of unbelief had been set aside and that God has turned to the Gentiles by his grace. This is in a national sense. In this chapter it is made clear that individuals from all nations by faith can be saved. Romans 8:23. His warning to the Gentiles as a whole is " do not be puffed up in pride, you have nothing to boast of, it is the grace of God that in his sovereign mercy cut of the tame branches (Israel) that we the Gentiles the ( Wild branches) could be grafted in. I believe that God is speaking to Jews nationally and Gentiles as a group. The great mystery which was hid from the prophets was that the Gentiles who were outside of the promises of God, would be brought into God's favor by faith in Jesus Christ. In v. 23 makes it clear that individual Jews as well if Gentiles can be faith as individuals be grafted in. In this time or dispensation of God's grace the invitation to salavtion is to the "Whosoever will" regardless of race or creed. Thank God his promise takes me in. Lose our salvation???? John 15 is talking about abiding in him. In John 15:6-10 the word IF can be also translated "Since". Since I am in him and his is the one that keeps me safe in his hand, I can never lose my soul. I do not believe that the scripture supports salvation which is dependent upon works. Works is the fruit which results from knowing the Lord Jesus and the external proof that we have salvation through him. I am aware that there are those who disagree with this truth. The Lord Jesus made many positive statements which assures us that upon receiving or trusting him "we have eternal life". Eternal cannot be defined as temporary life. This is the wonderful thing of the Gift of God through Christ, that to us it is unmerited and yet by his grace he offers to us the forgiveness of sins and personal relationship as sons through faith in him. Praise his precious name. Robert |

163 | Personal conviction? | Rom 14:1 | Robert Nicholson | 69702
Greetings Guitarmonkey: Romans 14 most certainly deals with things which are open to question as to right or wrong. Although, it primarily deals with meats, drinks and days I believe the principles apply to other areas of life. First of all we are not dealing with the principle of Noah's day "that everyone did what was right in their own eyes. In Romans 14 we are looking at the weak christain and the strong christian and their attitudes toward each other. On things which we do not have a "thus saith the Lord" we are not to dispise or judge the other for the things we may allow. I have seen it work both ways, where a strong brother will intimidate a weak brother causing the weak brother to do or accpet things which he is not comfortable with. Conversely, I have oberserved some who claim to be weak and would us this claim to prevent the strong brother from doing things he feels are right. When dealing with doubtful things we are given instructions: 1. "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." Is it something we can give God thanks for? 2. If we have doubts about a certain thing than it is sin to allow it v. 22, 23 3. We must be considerate of our brothers and sisters, since we have a responsibility for their spiritual well being. V15 4. We should be willing to give up certain things rather than stumble our brother. We are reminded that such actions destroy "the work of God" A searching question we can ask ourselves "What would Jesus do? What would Jesus think of this? Does my action bring glory to God? Guitar, God did not give us a list of rules to follow, but rather he has given us divine life and he wants us to learn by experience how we may become more like Jesus and serve him until he comes. If we had a list of rules, we would end up with legalism which is sin. A few things to think about Robert |

164 | Saint!!! | 1 Cor 1:2 | Robert Nicholson | 37374
Good Morning Grace: I quoted the above verse from 1 Cor. 1:2 which teaches us that it is our calling in Christ, "called to be saints" You will notice that throughout the Epistles that the believers are called saints. It is amazing that the Grace of God is such: that he calls lost, unworthy sinners to himself and through Christ brings them into a loving relationship with himself. They are sinners who are now saints. At times we often say "I'm only a sinner saved by grace". which is true. However, God would like us to hold our heads high because we now are saints in the body of Christ and seated in the heavenlies with Christ.Eph. 1 In short, a saint in the Bible is one who has trusted Christ as saviour. Some saints sin, others are weak, some are needy, while others live a godly life and yet they are saints who are precious to God. There are no "Saints" in scripture. The Lord never gave preferential titles to humans. Paul, Peter and the other apostles saw themselves as servants of the Lord and never took the singular name "Saint" to their name. "Saints" are an invention of certain church oganizations over the centuries. Peace in his Name Robert |

165 | what is ment by the body is the temple? | 1 Cor 6:19 | Robert Nicholson | 148741
Greetings 980 fairburn rd: I believe that 1 Corinthians 6:19 sheds light on your question. "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?" (1 Cor 6:19) Clearly, this verse is referring to those who have been born again and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God. Paul in writing to the Corinthians telling them why it is so important for believers to treat and use our bodies for Christ. In this chapter starting at verse 9 to the end of the chapter, Paul is teaching the need for purity among believers. He is speaking specifically about the seriousness of immorality in a believer's life. In Verse 20 we read "For your are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Cor 6:20) From this verse we see that Paul is including the whole person and their need to glorify God in their body and spirit. In Romans 12:1 we have a similar plea "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." God bless you Robert Nicholson |

170 | what does new convenant mean? | 1 Cor 11:25 | Robert Nicholson | 68699
Greetings Godfearinglady We read in 1 Cor. 11:25 "...this is the cup of the new testament (new covenant) in my blood: this do ye as oft as you drink it in rememberance of me" In Hebrews 8 and 9 we have detail and comparison between the old covenant and the new covenant. Under the old covenant God dealt with people in various ways which always pointed forward to Christ who would fulfil all the types and shadows of himself seen in the old covenant. The old covenant was temporary, whereas, the new covenant is eternal. In Hebrews 9 we read about the tabernacle of old and how the priests entered with the blood of animal sacrifices on behalf of the people. The problem was that these sacrifices had to be repeated since they pointed forward to Christ. "But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained redemption for us" Heb. 9:11-12 In other words the new covenant is a spiritual covenant, Christ has entered into the holiest of all with his own precious blood, a once and for all sacrifice for us. Under the old covenant, sins were only covered for a season. Under the new covenant in Christ our sins are forgiven forever. Under the old covenant the priest was the mediator Under the new coveant Christ is the mediator Heb. 9:15 In 1 Cor.11:25 the blood of the new covenant is referring to the blood of Christ, who established the new covenant with his blood fulfilling the promise of God "This is the covenant that I will make for them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law into the hearts and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more Heb. 10: 16-17 Thus, those who have been redeemed by his precious blood "enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus a new and living way"Heb.10:19-20 Peace in his Name Robert |

171 | Kin, too much ritual in baptism? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Robert Nicholson | 27356
Kin and Fountain: I believe that you will find that the context of 1 Cor. 12:13 is teaching us that the moment we trusted Christ we were baptised by the Holy Spirit into one Body, the body of Christ which is sometimes referred to as the church which is his body. All believers are part of this Spiritual body. In V. 27 of 1 Cor. 12 we read "Now we are body of Christ and members in particular" This baptism is not ritualistic and occurs at the moment we rest in Christ. In Christ Robert |

172 | How could the Bible be perfect? | 1 Cor 13:10 | Robert Nicholson | 54075
Dear brother If we accept that the Ultimate author of the word of God is God himself, we should understand that the word which God gave through various people over the years is accurate. It is amazing that God has chosen the humble ones of this world to entrust his word, this is his perogative. This idea is given to us in Paul's letter to the Corinthians; "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." ( 2 Cor, 4:7) Peter writes "For prophecy came in in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" 2 Peter 1:21 In other words the scriptures were "God breathed" When we refer to the new testament we find the promise of the Lord Jesus to his disciples "But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your rememberance, whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26) Thus, the new testament was not simply written from the memories of those who followed Jesus, but were written as they were guided by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (Matt. 24:35) For the creature to suggest that the Creator can not guard his word is ludicrous. Robert |

173 | What theory's attempt disprove resurrect | 1 Cor 15:20 | Robert Nicholson | 54759
Dr X Matt. 28: 12-15 tells us one of the first lies used to try and disprove the ressurection of Christ. The soldiers were paid great money to say that his disciples stole the body while they slept. What is wrong with this picture? First, Roman soldiers who were found sleeping on such a job would be put to death. Secondly, if the disciples stole away his body, they would know that the resurrection was a hoax. Why then would they be willing to give their lives for Christ if he was not a living saviour? I have heard of others who claimed that he did not die but simply went into a swoon and was revived later. To see how lidicrous this is all we need to do is read the events of the crucifixtion to realize that this man truly died. I think we should reverse the question and look at the proofs which show us that Christ is risen. This is the foundation stone of what we have in Christ. "If he is not risen than we are yet in our sins". 1Cor.15 Robert |

174 | What happens to our spirit at death? | 1 Cor 15:42 | Robert Nicholson | 31480
Hi Nancy K. Sometimes when we look upon our loved ones as their body is lowered into the grave we look for answers which would give us comfort. As has already been referred to in some of the previous postings, Paul covers this topic in 2 Cor. 5. It would seem that Paul is nearing the end of his life, his desire to be with Christ and yet he realizes his work is not yet done. He talks about our bodies as a temporary tent in comparision to our heavenly house which is permanent. In v. 3 he mentions the naked state or in other words when the spirit has left the body. Pauls desire is for the rapture and yet it seems that he is beginning to realize that he may die before Christ comes. Nevertheless, in V8 he speaks about "being absent from the body and at home with the Lord". Do these departed ones who sleep in Jesus 1 Thess 4 have a consciousness of the Lord himself? In the KJV we read "Absent from the body, present with the Lord" I believe the word present means that we are aware of him. Secondly, in Rev. 6: 9 to 11 we read about the souls of them who were slain for the word of God are under the altar and crying "how long O lord holy and true, dost thos not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth" We see that in a future day these souls will be in communication with God. I love to think of my loved ones who are with Christ and wonder what their thoughts are as they behold him in all his beauty. This would be enough for all eternity and yet; there is much more, these spirits will come with him and be united with their immortal bodies and we that are alive will be changed, and we will be ever with him. To think that we will have all our facilties both physical and spiritual unhampered by sin to whorship and adore the Lord Jesus for all eternity. A sure hope! beyound compare. In Christ Robert |

175 | after death, right then, what? | 2 Cor 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 47319
Dear Farout: It is interesting that the scripture does not say we will go to heaven when we die. This of course gets a reaction from those who have always believed it as such. On the other hand we know that we will be present with the Lord who sits on the right hand of the Majesty on high (Heb. 1:3) What awaits the Christian at death? As you have pointed out from 2 Cor. 5:8 that "we are absent from the body and present with the Lord". I believe the word "present" indicates that we are aware of his personal presence. In John 14 the Lord Jesus makes it clear that he must go to Calvary to prepare a place for us "that where I am , there ye may be also."(John 14:3) You are correct that when a Christain dies that he or she is referred to as asleep in Christ. 1Thess. 4:13-18 is one reference. However, I do not this believe this means "soul sleep" as taught by some. In Rev.6:9-10 we are read about "he souls of them which were slain for the word of God" and how they cry "How long O Lord..." Where is heaven the abode of God? Where is paradise? Are they the same place? Before the death of Christ we are made to understand that all souls went to hades the place of departed spirits. Hades was divided with a great gulf between those who were tormented and those who were comforted in Abrahams bosum. Luke 16: 19-31. We also know that upon Calvary's cross the Lord Jesus declared to the dying thief "today shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43) We know that the thief and the Saviour shared paradise that day. God had declared in the Psalms "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell (hades); neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." I believe that the Lord Jesus was at comfort in Paradise after he finished his work at Calvary. Not only that on the third day God raised him from amoung the dead bodily and that he ascended to the right hand of God. Is paradise the same today? I think not. Concerning the resurrection and ascention of Christ we read: "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)" Eph. 4: 8-10 It would appear that the Lord Jesus emptied "Abrahams bosum" and led the souls of "just men made perfect" into the very presence of God on high. Paul provides some insight as to Paradise and heaven. In Acts 14 Paul was stoned and left for dead at Lystra. We are given some insight to what appears to be an "out of body" experience for Paul. He recounts the event in the third person be careful not to glorify himself. In 1 Cor. 12:2 he tells "such an one was caught up into the third heaven" In verse 4 he mentions "being caught up into paradise" This would appear to place the third heaven and paradise as the same place which from the language of 1 Cor. 12: 4 is the abode of God. Brother, I have read your transcript and think that you should be teaching me. However, it is wonderful to discuss the things of God knowing that "it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (1 Cor. 2:9) "What will it be to dwell above And with the King of Glory reign Since the blest knowledge of his love so brightens all this dreary plain No heart can think, no tongue can tell What joy 'twill be with Christ to dwell Rejoicing in his love Robert |

176 | are there any souls in heaven , | 2 Cor 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 51055
Sylaws: I had a lengthy answer for you, but the computer took it away. Souls in heaven? Where is heaven? It is where Jesus is! In 11 Cor. 5: 8-9 Paul teaches us that if we are present in the body we are absent from the Lord. However, if we are absent from the body we are present with the Lord. Present has the sense of a concious knowledge of him. He has not given us much to understand what saved loved ones are enjoying in his presence. Are there souls already in heaven? You have mentioned 1 Thess. 4 We read in v. 14 "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him" When Christians die they are said to be asleep in Jesus. We find that they are already in his presence and when he comes there is an order in resurrection. a) they which are dead in Christ shall rise first". Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." Paul expands on this idea In 1 Cor. 15:54 "the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed" The change which we shall undergo is the same as Enoch who was translated that he should not see death. I would agree with you that there are at least two who are with Christ in changed bodies, namely, Enoch and Elijah. When the Lord Jesus rose from the dead he emptied the saved side of hades and transferred them to paradise, the third heaven, the abode of God. God has not given us the details. However, I am sure that those of the old testament who died in faith are with him and will enjoy him forever. Those who have trusted him after the cross and have died are in his personal presence waiting until he comes to this earth. I love the words of Paul "to be absent with the body, present with the Lord." This is our hope as we watch for the Lord from heaven. Are souls asleep. According to Rev. 6:10-11 we read of the souls who were martyered for Christ and how they cry for justice. Souls which are asleep do not cry for justice. I hope I have helped Robert Lift up your heads your redemption draweth neigh. |

177 | absentfrombodyisto be present with Lord | 2 Cor 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 67220
Dear brother/sister Wordnut: This wonderful truth is taught in 2 Cor. 5: 1-9 Paul also discusses his yearning to be with Christ in Philippians 1:23 I love the words of the KJV "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:" We see hear that the faithful servant of the Lord desires to "be with Christ which is far better" However, in verse 24 he realizes that his responsiblity and work on earth are not yet finished. The confidence which Paul had is inspiring. Near the end of his life he writes: " I know in whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day" 2 Tim. 1:12 His words are especially touching in 2 Tim. 4:6-7 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith" Thank God for our sure hope Robert |

178 | When we die do we go directly to Christ? | 2 Cor 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 72247
Dear Erusni: In 2 Cor.5 Paul discusses the fact that we have an earthly or (tent) house which is our mortal body. I believe we must remember that we are soul and spirit which have a body not the other way around. Our physical body will eventually die if Christ be not come and this temporary body will return to dust. However, our soul is eternal and will not die. We "the real person" will be with Christ! In v. 2 Paul tells us "we have a building of God" which is eternal and immortal in contrast to our earthly body. However, we will not get that eternal body until Christ comes and we all are changed. Thus "We are confident and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" This would show us that for the believer the moment we take flight from our body we will be with Christ. Paul yearns for this "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better" (Phil 1:23) Paul wants to be with Christ and yet he realizes the Lord still has work from him. I do not believe that in either instance is there any suggestion of soul sleep. But rather that our soul is separated from our bodies and with Christ. (present) When a christian is promoted to glory the scriptures do not speak of death, but rather that they sleep in Jesus. (1 Cor. 15:51) "we shall not all sleep,(die), but we shall all be changed". In Paul's references to being with Christ, I believe has the sense of conscious knowledge of whom we are with. John in the Revelation of Jesus Christ writes "when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice saying, How long O LOrd holy and true, does thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth" Rev, 6: 9 to 10 These souls are not sleeping nor are they silent and unaware. Some day the silver thread will break, And I as now,no more shall sing, But O the joy when I awake, Within the palace of the King! We look for the Saviour from heaven Robert |

179 | Any verses about praying for the dead? | 2 Cor 6:2 | Robert Nicholson | 55778
Suzy: I do not believe that the Bible teaches prayers for the dead. The Lord Jesus said, The Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins" Matt. 9:6 It touches our heart when children are affected by death of a mate. It would be wonderful to be able to give hope or help to one who has passed into eternity. However, at this point it is in God's hands and he knows those that are his. As I am sure you are aware, King David's son Absalom tried to take his father's throne and was killed in the attempt. We hear the sorrow of a grieving father as he thinks of his adult son who has died and gone into eternity. He cryed "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son! King David was right with God and was wishing to exchange places with his son. This was a prayer which could never be answered. This is my humble opinion and in light of the Word of God, that we have a responsibilty to be honest and faithful with our young people. They need of know of God's love, of God's eternal Son who payed that awful debt on the cross that we could be forgiven and that it is God's desire that we come to know him through Christ when we are young. Jesus said "Suffer the children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such are the kingdom of heaven. I think the lesson each one of us should see in death, is that we cannot live forever and that we must prepare to meet God. Praying for someone whose eternal destiny is fixed, would be futile. However, we should pray for the living who are entrusted to us. When I was a young boy we used to sing this song which spoke to my heart. "Ive a soul to be saved, May this truth be engraved, On my mind and my soul while I'm young, O how awful the cost if my soul should be lost, And in hell if I die as I am. May God bless you in your Sunday School class. Robert |

180 | DO NOT BE YOKED WITH UNBELIEVERS.... | 2 Cor 6:14 | Robert Nicholson | 53490
Dear Heaven: As I read your letter the following verse came to my memory: "...they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) It is my prayer that you will experience the blessing which is given to those who obey God. This way is not always easy, in fact it is downright tough and as you have said "heartbreaking" May the Spirit of God work with your boy friend and father of your child and show him his need. It may be that God has great things for you both together after he has worked with you. God bless you Robert |
