NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:8 we are [as I was saying] of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. |
Bible Question: I think Paul said, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord Jesus". I gather that is why he did not fear death, which I think is pretty cool. I'm having a tough time finding it in the Bible. I guess I don't have the correct key words to complete a successful search. Can you help me. Thanks, Wordnut. |
Bible Answer: Dear brother/sister Wordnut: This wonderful truth is taught in 2 Cor. 5: 1-9 Paul also discusses his yearning to be with Christ in Philippians 1:23 I love the words of the KJV "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:" We see hear that the faithful servant of the Lord desires to "be with Christ which is far better" However, in verse 24 he realizes that his responsiblity and work on earth are not yet finished. The confidence which Paul had is inspiring. Near the end of his life he writes: " I know in whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day" 2 Tim. 1:12 His words are especially touching in 2 Tim. 4:6-7 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith" Thank God for our sure hope Robert |
