21 | While Jesus was dead, what was he doing | 1 Pet 3:19 | Jensen | 40868
Dear Tommie...Welcome to the Forum :-) There is some degree of speculation as to what "all" Lord Jesus was "doing" at this time. You must remember that God is outside of time, His creation. But some suggest that this verse is evidence of at least one thing that Our Lord saw fit to do. 1 Peter 3:18ff " For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, (19) through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison" The good news was preached to those who were still not saved. Perhaps there were believers and non-believers in this prison. Speculation only. Others on the Forum will follow shortly with their perspective. Hope to hear from you again. God Bless....Jensen |

22 | If a marriage fails | Col 3:19 | Jensen | 38582
Dear cboyer….Welcome to the Forum :-)…....If your question asks whether the man, a Christian, is biblically more responsible for the success of a marriage than the woman, a Christian, I would suggest that the evidence says yes. It is the role of the man to be the spiritual leader of his house. Leading his family in a biblical manner would, by definition, exclude a reason for a marriage to fail and to perhaps end in a divorce. To have a marriage fail would mean that the man failed in his biblical role. And a reason for divorce is not the failure of the woman in her biblical role, but her failure may hasten his failure. But, above all, God does not “look down” on this Christian pair. Rather, He sees the Blood of His Son. If the question is simply hypothetical then I hope my reply will help. But if you ask in order for the Lord to provide solace in the comfort of His alliance in the matter, or even fodder for a sharp tongue, I suggest you be still and pray for the persons you have in mind. COL 3:18-19 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. God Bless….Jensen |

23 | The origin of life | Genesis | Jensen | 34437
Dear JK316...Welcome to the Forum :-) I agree with Hank and Radioman that the Bible does not state explicitly how old the Earth is. A good Biblical guess, based primarily on the genealogies, would be 6,000 to 12,000 years however. There is much debate on the age of the Earth to be found here on the Forum that a good search will uncover. For a "young Earth" point of view please visit answersingenesis.org. The young Earth argument is quite persuasive. God Bless....Jensen |

24 | Having problems with my faith. | Genesis | Jensen | 34436
Dear Chynna...You are not having problems with your Faith. You may have a problem with understanding the Biblical idea of stewardship. You Wrote... "Most christians I speak with view animals as things God gave us to do with however we please"... but that means that Christians who want to please God will be good stewards of His Creation. That includes animals. Christians do not “please” to abuse animals, or any other part of Creation. But the Creation is here for your use. And you Wrote... "But how does an animal lover accept God's choice of animal sacrifices..." .....which is close to saying that animals are the equal of men(people)when they are clearly not. An “animal lover” may not accept animal sacrifice but an OT people of God would. An “animal lover” may not subscribe to eating meat but a NT Christian would see no harm at all. Which comes first in your own life will be determined by your understanding of the position you occupy in His Creation. Your issue(s) with animals will be resolved when you come to the full understanding that God loves all of His Creation and each part has a “role” to play. Even His Son had a part to play and surely the crucifixion of a guiltless man will give more pause than the death of any animal. Your heightened concern with animals may be misplaced or misdirected. You were an "animal lover" before becoming a Christian. There may have been a moral equivalence instilled in you through a government school. Was there a government teacher that encouraged you along the path of Pantheism? (God, if there is one, is everywhere and is in everything. All life is equal. A boy is a tree is a pig.)Being a good steward for all of His Creation is Biblical, but we are to use what God gave us. Do you remember Peters Vision? Why would God tell us in Acts 10…. “11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13 Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." …if we were not to use His Creation for our own maintenance. In the OT animal sacrifice was a way to maintain a relationship with God. He said to do it. Start with the Knowledge that if God said it, it must be Good. Now go out and persuade the world to your knowledge of the Truth. Do not start with an idea of the world (pantheism) and then try to adjust God to it. God Bless….Jensen |

26 | BEING A WITNESS AND NEEDING DELIVERANCE | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 34427
Dear Alice…Welcome to the Forum :-) You asked two questions. Both are a matter of definition. So let us start with the definitions. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary WITNESS….. 1 : attestation of a fact or event : TESTIMONY 2 : one that gives evidence; specifically : one who testifies in a cause or before a judicial tribunal 3 : one asked to be present at a transaction so as to be able to testify to its having taken place 4 : one who has personal knowledge of something 5 a : something serving as evidence or proof : SIGN b : public affirmation by word or example of usually religious faith or conviction *the heroic witness to divine life— Pilot* And DELIVERANCE…. 1 : the act of delivering someone or something : the state of being delivered; especially : LIBERATION, RESCUE In a Christian manner of speaking we could say that a testimony may lead someone to be rescued. Testimony, or witnessing, is also a way to encourage believers. God has done some pretty wonderful things in the lives of individuals. Telling the story of the event or that life changing or enhancing episode brought about by God (miracles etc.) would be giving a WITNESS in the testimony sense of the word. Testimonies, therefore, are given to believers and non-believers alike. Once a non-believer becomes a believer he has been rescued or DELIVERED from the eternal separation from God. (Some would say that the non believer would be delivered from going to hell, and some would let it be enough to say separation.) DELIVERANCE is rescue. We are delivered to God through His Son, our Savior Jesus. I hope this helps. Hang in there. Others will soon give more on the topic. God Bless….Jensen |

28 | Can the church forgive sin? | Matt 6:14 | Jensen | 33160
Dear Lordlover...Here is a passage that may help. (Mat 6:14-15) Since we as individuals should, and therefore can, forgive someone their sins against us, by extension, I suppose a church, or group of believers can forgive a trespass corporately. Perhaps some church decree? God Bless….Jensen |

29 | which came first the chicken or the egg | Gen 1:20 | Jensen | 33155
Dear joetatep...The chicken came before the egg. The answer to the riddle is found in the Book of Origins....GE 1:20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good." God Bless....Jensen |

30 | Why is this event only in St. Matthew? | Matt 27:52 | Jensen | 33115
Dear Trykkleif...Welcome to the Forum :-)....While it is true for all the reasons you have received in reply that there is only one Biblical record of this miracle, I do recall reading from an extra-biblical account that the dead also were seen walking around in Rome and other cities as well. It was a "famous" historian. I forget the name however. So, in this case the Bible supports the extra-biblical account. (Now I will drive myself crazy going through all the resources in order to find that historian:)) When I find it I will try to send the source to you. God Bless....Jensen |

31 | Seeking a prophet, or not? | Job | Jensen | 33105
Dear charis...You wrote... "Do you demand the same degree of perfection from preachers and teachers of the Word? i.e. 100 percent 'accuracy' and perfection. Or do you simply deny that God speaks through them?"....To which I reply...the latter. Fraud is fraud. I'm not impressed with a man who says he is a prophet and whom is sometimes accurate. Sometimes agrees with the Bible; Sometimes speaks the truth even if in love. Sometimes gives edification while at other times makes fale accusations. There was a "prophet" in a local church that told a teenage congregant that God wanted him to shun pornography. This man of God did this in front of the congregation. The young man was not guilty, but the prophet of God knew better. It led to the young mans suicide. It was a pretty big story locally. It provided a lot of pause in the Christian community. You can have all the fun you want in the church hall with each other. Lets not have any standards at all. Why bother with Pauls' letter(s) concerning church conduct, or the 'suggestions' for choosing leaders. I really have had enough of this topic. In the future do not tell me that you agree with me and then backtrack. It is confusing. Take a stand. This debate never was about anything other than how to discern a false prophet. I'm sorry we again disagree. I thought we kissed and made up :-) God Bless....Jensen PS. No...I am NOT seeking a prophet, never was, never will be, since all who make the claim to have the Gift are acknowledged apparently without question. Not me. HocusPocusChristianity is not in my reading of the Scriptures. TEST all things my friend. |

32 | Dancing? | Job | Jensen | 33021
Dear charis...You Wrote... "In case you did not hear me, I AGREE WITH YOU."....Finally. Thank you. I had begun to think that I lost all ability to communicate clearly. At least I'm not going as crazy as I had begun to think :-) And I want to thank you for the gentle tone of your reply. I am not familiar with the scope of the prophets’ role. I was focused on one thing: Those who make the claim that God speaks through them in one way or another. That being settled I will now become more familiar with this Gift. And, I will beware of the false prophet, and the false teacher, and the preacher who adds to the Bible, and I will increase my awareness or ability to see the Enemy for all that he is. Thanks for holding on. For defending the Faith is a constant in the world, especially today. God Bless….Jensen |

33 | Are you truly searching for a prophet? | Job | Jensen | 32925
OH! ..My goodness!… Dancing.. Dear Friend Charis….You are reading way too much between the lines. There are no between the lines to be found. I am an honest, up-front, no strings to my Faith kinda guy. I have put the question too simply for many of the followers of this thread. I can not make my position on ACCURACY, and accuracy only more clear…… OR…. You have avoided it out of fear of the Lord. I don’t know. I, for the life of me, can not understand why Christians are so liberal. Oh…not in their politics but in their Faith. What’s the point? Demand conservative values, be tolerant on Gods Word…..??? (:-)Please be open to the possibility that perhaps life in Japan has had an unintended or unexpected influence :-)) Dear friend charis, we must defend the Faith, set Biblical parameters as a Church. Not Churches. Accuracy. Accuracy when someone says “Thus sayeth the Lord…” How can we compromise? God Bless….Jensen |

34 | Truly searching for a prophet? | Job | Jensen | 32820
Dear Charis....I have so much respect for your posts that I have done a lot of thiking on just how to reply. It may all be summed up thusly. You wrote to ask... "Brother, what is is you want to hear from a true prophet?"...to which my answer, my only answer, is and has always been, even from the original question,...ACCURACY! That is all. Accuracy. 100 percent accuracy...each and every time a prophet begins with "Thus sayeth the Lord..." I want accuracy. Or prophet indeed! God Bless....Jensen |

35 | Prophet idolatry? | Job | Jensen | 32315
Dear Charis....The singular thing that sets a prophet apart from the rest of His Church is the Prophecy itself. In all (most all) other areas we are alike. All speak the Word of God, all are sinners, none are perfect. We all share the various Gifts to one degree or another. And, for purposes of this discussion, all are faithful servants of God. I grant it all. I agree with you. Now if we may turn to the original question of accuracy: Please know again that it is my only question. Are you really saying that Biblical, historical, true Prophets of God were sometimes wrong (in their prophecies)? Is there Scriptural proof specifically that would support that thesis? Is it just a guess? (I remember Benny Hinn predicting that all homosexuals would be destroyed by fire by the year 199?. Should we listen to his other prophecies?) Is it okay to be sometimes wrong as a Prophet of God? I just can’t see that. However, for the sake of unity, I am open to persuasion. I admit it is a new field of Christianity for me. I do not take on the role of “fraud detector” but, gee whiz, sanity win out. This discussion reminds me of the one hosted by the Forum on numerology in the Bible some time ago. Bible Codes indeed!! I was open to it, with proof. But there was/is no proof. Is accuracy NOT a good predictor of the true Prophet? What else shall I use to know if a true Prophet is......well......true? I am beginning to consider that the Spiritual Gifts as outlined in Corinthians ended with the end of the Apostolic Age. Thanks for taking part in this discussion. God Bless....Jensen |

36 | Are your friends true friends? | Prov 17:17 | Jensen | 31946
Dear just.....Words mean things.....so, for what it is worth to you.... FRIEND is defined..... 1 a : one attached to another by affection or esteem b : ACQUAINTANCE 2 a : one that is not hostile b : one that is of the same nation, party, or group 3 : one that favors or promotes something (as a charity) 4 : a favored companion And TRUE is defined..... 1 a : STEADFAST, LOYAL b : HONEST, JUST c archaic : TRUTHFUL 2 a (1) : being in accordance with the actual state of affairs *true description* (2) : conformable to an essential reality (3) : fully realized or fulfilled *dreams come true* b : IDEAL, ESSENTIAL c : being that which is the case rather than what is manifest or assumed *the true dimension of the problem* d : CONSISTENT *true to character* 3 a : properly so called *true love* *the true faith* *the true stomach of ruminant mammals* b (1) : possessing the basic characters of and belonging to the same natural group as *a whale is a true but not a typical mammal* (2) : TYPICAL *the true cats* 4 : LEGITIMATE, RIGHTFUL *our true and lawful king* We have a "true friend" in Jesus to be sure. Others exhibit true friendship at times. More importantly...What about your friends...Are they true? Or is this just a rhetorical question you ask? God Bless....Jensen |

37 | Why is the man the head of the home? | Eph 5:33 | Jensen | 31941
Dear just...You wrote "The man is the head, the woman the body because God said. Anything with two heads is a monster. Read Eph 5:22-33"......there is nothing about a two-headed monster in this passage. Please let the Scripture speak for itself. No hyperbole needed. God Bless....Jensen |

38 | What sin does not lead to death? | 1 John 5:17 | Jensen | 31938
Dear just…… No sin (almost any sin?) committed by a believer will lead to death. That is to say that eternal separation from God will not be the result of any sin of the believer. The sin has been atoned for. There is one sin that can not be forgiven….Matt 12:31 “And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” But even this may not lead to eternal separation. I’m not sure. God Bless….Jensen |

39 | Satan's will or God's will | 2 Tim 2:26 | Jensen | 31870
Dear aquila..... The NIV has it this way... "and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will." The "who" word is clearly a reference to the "devil" word in the previous phrase. The amplified is wrong. But then again there may be some obscure Greek idiom that I do not know of. But you can not use the ampified for study. But the NASB is good for study :-) God Bless....Jensen |

40 | In what way was Job supposed to suffer? | Job | Jensen | 31869
Dear, Dear, Samantha....Buy the nature and timing of your question(s), that is the fact that your "short" question is the same as your "full" question and that your questions are submitted at one minute intervals, it is plain that you are asking the good members of this Forum to do your group bible study homework. The questions you ask all have answers that would be apparent to you if you would read and study the book your group has chosen to study. The Forum will answer your questions but what have you really gained? God Bless....Jensen |
