21 | Mark 16:9-48 | Mark | Huron | 92865
Tim, Thanks for the information. My Scofield KJV says that the longer ending was not in the Siniatic or the Vatican manuscripts, but that Irenaeus and Hippolytus quoted the longer ending. Have you any info on the instance where the longer ending was quoted by those early Church leaders? Thanks again! |

24 | Not far from the kingdom of God? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104060
What is Jesus saying here when he says that "You are not far from the kingdom of God"? Is he saying that this man is close to understanding about God? Is he saying this man is almost a child of God? Thanks! |

25 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104166
Scribe, Thanks for your insight. I have been told that natural man is dead to the things of God (Ephesians 2:1 and others). If this scribe hadn't been born again yet, how could he have understood that what Jesus was saying was the truth? Huron |

26 | Help me solve this apparent conflict | Luke 8:15 | Huron | 111769
How would one reconcile this verse that speaks of an honest and good heart, (similar to Acts 17:11),with the general Bible teaching that the heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9)?
27 | Here is where I'm puzzled | Luke 8:15 | Huron | 111825
I'm one hundred percent in agreement with everyone that says that God gives us a new heart when we are in Christ. (Ezekiel 36:26-27) Where I am puzzled is when I see these verses that say (apparently to me anyway) that these folks who received the Word did so BECAUSE their heart was different. To put it another way, it isn't saying that their heart was different AFTER they heard it (although it obviously would be), it appears that the heart in both of these examples was already open BEFORE they heard the Word. 28 | Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) who is he? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96238
In Luke 15:11-32 who are the two sons? I'm convinced that the story illustrates a sinner coming to repentance. I want to be sure that I haven't overlooked any possibilities. Is it possible the two sons represent the Jews and the Gentiles? Any other possibilities that I am overlooking? Thanks and Regards, Huron |

29 | Prodigal follow up | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96308
In my mind this parable demonstrates that although we are saved by grace through faith, we must make a decision about Christ/receive Him. I see this parable as showing that although the prodigal son was dead spiritually (clearly not following the Lord when he made his decision) God still allows us to choose him. So although God is all powerful, he is still a perfect gentleman and allows us to choose life in His Son. Of course we do this after we realize that we could never earn salvation on our own, but must believe in the Lord Jesus. Would that be accurate? The reason I'm asking this question is that others say that we are dead to God and can't do anything, therefore we can't make a decision for Christ. |

30 | God must first seek the man? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96342
NC, You wrote, "before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man". Doesn't God seek ALL men? (1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.) (The person that I've been talking with believes in single predestination) |

31 | Main point of rich man, Lazarus parabe? | Luke 16:19 | Huron | 180359
What is the essential, main point of Jesus' account of the rich man and Lazarus? Is it that riches won't guarantee treasures in the afterlife? Comfort for the poor? Something else? Thanks! Huron |

32 | What language did Jesus use? Read? Quote | John | Huron | 142526
I have a two part question: What language did Jesus use in His daily life? Hebrew? Aramaic? Chaldean? Greek? I've been under the assumption that Jesus quoted the LXX (Septuagint) mostly. Is this true? If so, and assuming that he knew Hebrew, why didn't he use a Hebrew text? Regards! |

33 | Did Jesus purify the temple twice? | John 2:15 | Huron | 126079
In John's Gospel, Jesus is shown hear purifying the temple in the early part of his ministry. Matthew, Mark, and Luke give an account of this near the end of his ministry. How do you account for this? Did Jesus purify the temple twice? I'll bet that I've read the NT 20 times or more and have never noticed it till now. Thanks! Huron |

34 | Titus 3:5 regeneration help please | John 3:3 | Huron | 95754
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, I'd like some more information on regeneration. Seems to be two schools of thought on it. Some say regeneration is the same as being born again or converted. (According to this model, I guess you could alternately say that regeneration happens at the same time as conversion.) Others say that it is a seperate step, i.e., you are regenerated BEFORE you have faith. I did some searching last night and it seems the only place in the Bible that uses the word regeneration is Titus 3:5, and that is only in the KJV, and NASB, but not the NIV. (I only have those three versions at home.) NIV uses the term "washing of rebirth". Is regeneration the same or different from the new birth talked about in Eze. 36:26,John 1:13, John 3:3, II Cor. 5:17, I Pet 1:23, I John 5:1? In some ways I feel like I'm splitting hairs here, but resolving this will help solve some related questions for me. Thanks! |

35 | Water, baptism and John 3:5/Titus 3:5 | John 3:5 | Huron | 110233
Many people use this verse to substantiate water baptism along with Titus 3:5 "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit," Although I am all for water baptism, I just don't see any connection between this verse and baptism. Am I missing something, or am I likely correct? To discuss it from another angle, I believe regeneration and baptism are two totally different topics. Seems people who use John 3:5 to validate baptism mix the two terms. Huron |

36 | Nailing down John 3:16 | John 3:16 | Huron | 125837
Would it be fair to say that "the world" in this verse means all of mankind? Are there any qualifiers on the word "whoever" here? I read this as absolutely anyone, is that correct? Thanks! |

37 | abiding in Christ by communion? | John 6:56 | Huron | 97647
I realize this verse is figurative, but what is Jesus telling us here? I don't think it means that we take communion to be in union or abide in Christ, but I'm not sure exactly what the message is here. Thanks! Huron |

38 | Does Jn 15:16 "choosing" apply to us? | John 15:16 | Huron | 166555
Is Jesus just talking to the disciples here, or is he speaking to everyone who believes? Thanks! Huron |

39 | Acts commentary recommendation? | Acts | Huron | 147315
What do you consider to be the BEST commentary on Acts? I've read the commentary on James by Douglas Moo, 1 Peter by David's, and am working on the commentary on 1 Corinthians by Gordon Fee. I'm looking for something at about the same level.
40 | Acts 2:38 Repentance and Baptism? | Acts 2:38 | Huron | 110519
To the casual observer it looks like Peter is saying for us that we can be saved through repentance and baptism. This seems to fly in the face of Ephesians 2:8,9. Is it possible that Peter is really saying to repent, and then be baptized BECAUSE we have forgiveness of sins? The reason that I'm asking is because he makes no reference to baptism in Acts 3:19 where he preaches at portico of Solomon. Regards and Thanks! Huron |
