202 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51040
It is not the water of baptism that saves, but God's grace accepted through faith in Christ. Because of Jesus' response to the thief on the cross that died with him, we know it is possible to be saved without being baptized (Luke 23:43). Baptism alone without faith does not automatically bring a person to heaven. Those who refuse to believe will be condemned, regardless of whether or not they have been baptized. You put on Christ by taking off the old "self" and becoming a new person in Jesus Christ. Could you please put only one basic question per entry. Thanks, it will help us to answer you more fully. prayon |

204 | why can't a christian dink or dance | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51508
Greetings ENS, I have to agree with SSprin, and 2Samuel. Some denominations do not believe in dancing. I think it is unfortunate. I, too am going to assume you are in high school, so I want to add that whatever your parents say is what you must do. I suggest that you research dancing in the bible and then ask your parents to sit down and discuss it with you. Two additional references are in Psalm 150:4 The bible tells us to praise him with dance. See also 149:3. When ever you dance always dance in a way that will honor the Lord (refrain from lewd and vulgar dancing). As far as what to tell your friends, tell them the truth. If they don't accept it they don't accept it. I do commend you for standing strong against peer pressure. prayon |

Greetings, God speaks to people in many ways. Have you ever said, "something told me not to do that"? That something was God. Some people call it a gut instinct. He is that quiet voice that you hear in your spirit. It takes a while to learn to hear Him speaking. It is not something that you will be able to hear over night. The first thing to do is to pray and ask God to be able to hear Him when He speaks. Then when you start to do something, stop, and see what that little voice tells you. Another way that God may speak to you is through others. For example, have you ever been listening to a sermon and something was said that really caught your attention? Or maybe you heard something in the sermon then someone else tells you the same thing. That is God. Just keep listening and you will hear Him because He does speak to you too. Hope this helps. prayon |

206 | what is covenant? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51896
Greetings t2babs, a covenant is a formal agreement or treaty between two parties with each assuming some obligation. A covenant may be a pact between 2 individuals, such as Laban and Jacob (Gen 31:44-54)and a husband and wife, or between 2 nations. A covenant might also be imposed by a greater power upon a lesser one. The greater power demands loyality and obligates itself to the protection of the lesser one, such as Israel and the Gibeonites (Josh 9). We still do make covenants today. They are sometimes called treaties. A covenant is made between a husband and wife in their marriage vows. The main thing to know about covenants is that they are not to be broken. Do not enter into one lightly. prayon |

207 | Want to learn more ab. the women of the | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51898
Greetiings and welcome to the forum. there are many books that can help you to learn more about the women of the bible. I recommend that you go to your local Christian bookstore or to your favorite Christain bookstore website and browse. Francine Rivers wrote 5 novellas on the 5 women in the geneology or Jesus that I really liked, "Unafraid", "Unspoken", and "Unveiled" are three of them. Edith Deen wrote a book called "All the Women of the Bible" that gives a short bio on each of the women in the bible. Many books can be found in your public library. Good reading! No one can learn your email address unless you fill out your profile, plus it is really nice to know something about the person you are replying to. Thanks prayon |

Greetings, Do things fall into place for that change/move? Or have you run into obstacles? Have you asked God to confirm it? If you are unsure that you heard the Lord He will confirm it for you using another means. If it is something that you are supposed to do you will be amazed at how the doors will open for you to make this happen. Everything you need will just fall into place. If you decide that it was the Lord who wanted you to make this move/change it is never too late to obey Him. prayon |

210 | LEFT BEHIND? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 59937
Greetings Justme, I think the most reasonable place to get the books is at the Public Library. The names of the books in order are: 1) Left Behind (which is now also on video, you can rent it from some of the video rental stores such as Blockbuster) 2)Tribulation Force 3)Nicolae 4)Soul Harvest 5)Apollyon 6)Assassins 7)The Indwelling 8)The Mark 9)Desecration 10)The Remnant Enjoy Reading! This is an excellent series! Remember, however, that this is a fiction series and although they attempt to follow the bible it is still man's interpretation of the end times and tribulation. prayon |

There may be 18 in the kids series, I am not sure how many have been written for them. By the way, tell Dottie that Walmart has the hard back copy for 14.97. That's I usually get mine. Have a blessed day! By the way it looks like the finances are going to come through for my prayer request about the tuition! Agape, Susan
212 | Church Building or Not | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60103
Greetings, I have been to many churches that do not have a "permanent home". One instance comes to mind when the pastor wanted so badly to have a permanent home that he went ahead and put a down payment on a building. However, it wasn't Gods time and he found out that there were zoning laws and he could not move in there. I am not sure if he was able to get the money back or not. He learned a hard lesson in not trusting God and striking out on what self wanted. To this day that church still meets in a storefront. I don't believe that it truly matters to God where you praise Him as long as the church is a church based on the word and that church worships God and puts Him above all else. If your church is a church that is based on the word of God then I am sure that God will lay it on your pastor's heart when the time comes to building a church and your pastor will obey God. Also, I sincerely believe that God will not only lay it on your pastor's heart but also on other members of the church. You, yourself state that you do not find much enthusiasm for building. That tells me that the time has not come for that move. Whether to move to another church or not is a question that only prayer from you to God will answer. I don't believe that the building is a good reason to find another church, but maybe there are other issues that come into play here as well. As I said before it is not the building that is important. I say this with love; maybe God is using the building to teach you something. Ask Him. It is possible that God is letting you go through this time of questions and frustration to help you to stand firmer in adversity. Or maybe to help you to become more humnble in dealing with the leaders of the church, a difficult lesson and one that I had to go through. Or maybe He is trying to make your trust in and reliance on Him stronger. There could be many different things. Remember He is constantly putting us through trials and tribulations to make us stronger and to prepare us for His plans for us in the future. This situation could be one of your trials. Hope this help, prayon |

213 | LEFT BEHIND? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60109
AMEN!!!!! Someone needed to do something to give sight to the blind. I, too, think it is OK to scare the daylights out of an unbeliever. Even a believer. The unbeliever, hopefully, will be drawn into opening the bible. And hopefully will be drawn into going to church. The one thing that scares me is that there are so many preachers out there who make light of the end times or refuse to discuss it for fear of stepping on someone's toes. Then the unbeliever could end up right back where they started - thinking there is nothing to worry about. As for the believer, if it scares them too, I say Good! Hopefully, it scares them into a closer relationship with God. And as far as I am concerned we can never be close enough. prayon |

214 | Baptism nulifies adultery? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60111
NO. It does not. There is no way that a adulterous union can be turned into a sanctified one. The only union that the bible and God sanctifies is marriage of a man and a woman. You can be forgiven for adultery though. All you have to do is ask God for forgiveness, and if you ask it with a sincere heart and then just as Jesus did with the woman at the well who was commiting adultry (John 8:1-11) Jesus will forgive you and tell you to "go and sin no more"(v.11). prayon

217 | LEFT BEHIND? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60180
Greetings John, How true! Do you know what really had an effect on me when it cam to wanting to stay out of hell? A book I read about 6 or 7 years ago but it is still having an impact on me and probably always will. It's called "A Divine Revelation of Hell" by Mary Baxter. Now I know that it is probably all fiction but there is always that .01 percent chance it is not....and if it is not it is worse than I ever imagined it could be. I have given the book to a few people and it had the same effect on them. prayon
218 | The "branches" of Romans 11 | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60198
Greetings, Many have had problems with the illustration of the olive tree with it's rejected and newly grafted branches. Many of these problems come from trying to go beyond the simple point of the illustration. If we think of the broken off branches as individuals, we introduce the thought of a person's salvation being lost, which contradicts Paul's teaching else where. However, if we think of the branches as nations, Israel is replaced by Gentile nations and we end up thinking that there is some degree of Gentile supremacy. These problems can be eliminated if we understand that Paul is not referring to individuals or nations specifically but only about the masses of Jews and many Gentiles. What he is getting at is most Jews have not believed in Jesus and are therefore cut off from the spiritual blessings that should be theirs because they are Jews. On the other hand the Gentiles, who have no claim on the spiritual blessings granted to Israel have nevertheless entered into those blessing by faith in Jesus. Hope this helps. 220 | Church Building or Not | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60219
shortstop, I can see your points about the need to have access to the building for different functions. I would wonder why your pastor stays in the high school rather than build or rent another building. However, we must remember that everything works together for the good of God. We must remember that He has a reason for your being in the high school building. It is possible that because of your being in the high school with all your praise and worship and praying that there are demons that have been removed from the school. God has been invited into that building and when God is invited in it always makes a difference. Sounds like why you are there is one of those "Ahh So" questions to ask when you get to heaven (Ahh so that's why we were there.....)prayon
