Bible Question: The word covenant is been used often in the old testament. Can God still make covenant with man today?or can we make covenant with God?If yes, what are the basic knowledge one needs about Covenant. |
Bible Answer: Greetings t2babs, a covenant is a formal agreement or treaty between two parties with each assuming some obligation. A covenant may be a pact between 2 individuals, such as Laban and Jacob (Gen 31:44-54)and a husband and wife, or between 2 nations. A covenant might also be imposed by a greater power upon a lesser one. The greater power demands loyality and obligates itself to the protection of the lesser one, such as Israel and the Gibeonites (Josh 9). We still do make covenants today. They are sometimes called treaties. A covenant is made between a husband and wife in their marriage vows. The main thing to know about covenants is that they are not to be broken. Do not enter into one lightly. prayon |
