201 | is it right to give something away that | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232484
I think you already know the answer to that question. Either get it back and return it to the rightful owner or go to the owner and confess what you did and ask for their forgiveness. You do know your trustworthiness and integrity will be questioned by all involved. |

204 | How does one explain the above steps? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232586
Jenny I would suggest you ask one question and then get a good solid answer fixed in your mind then go to the next. Do not let your son lead the discussion he will snow ball you into confusion. Been there done that. Take one specific objection of his and address it until he admits God is God. Then and only then move on to the next question. Again been there done that. His problem is probably not coming from professors as much as peers who wax philosophical into the late evening hours. Again been there done that. It is amazing how brilliant we are when we get to college and how stupid we see ourselves when we fully mature. |

205 | the name jehovah in orginal bible text | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232601
Jehovah is an invented name. It was believed to have been created by Tyndale back in the 1500's. It was created by adding the vows of latin word Adonni which speaks of God to the Hebrew tetragram YHWH. Remember in Latin the Y is sounded like the English J as does the W sound like V so some assume Tyndale added the traded the Y for a J and the V for the W Hebrew originally was written without vowels making it impossible for us to know how words were exact pronounced. There is some recent evidence that when the vowel points were added to the written Hebrew by the Masoretes that the Tetragram was transformed into Yehovah. However many scholars maintain the original YHWH was left unchanged. In any case the Hebrew reader would never pronounce the word. Even today most Jewish writers use G-d instead of writing the word God. |

206 | What is the Bible meaning of "G" as a na | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232686
I did a search in every Bible in my library for a stand alone "G". The only hits I got were in "The New American Bible" in the book Song of Solomon. The New American Bible is a Catholic bible and includes the deuterocanonical books of which Song of Solomon is included. They have various single letters scattered through out the book the Song of Solomon and I assume (correctly or incorrectly I don't know) that they are musical chords that are to be played as the Song of Solomon are recited. |

207 | What are demons? where do they come from | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232691
While many consider Demons to be fallen angels, scripture does not define demons nor does it tell us from where they originated. What we do know is demons are in ultimate subjection to Jesus, he commanded them to come out of various people through out the New Testament gospels. We also know that demons believe in God and shudder James 2:19. We also know demons do not know the future since they entered the herd of swine which then ran into the sea and drown. Had the known the future they would have most probably picked different subject to inhabit. Luke 8. Demons also know Jesus when they see him. Luke 4:41. Interestingly most of our supposed knowledge of demons is what has been passed down to us and most theologians believe much of it originated from the teaching of Islam. |

208 | what is the value of a family | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232693
We see the family instituted in Genesis 2:23-24 and all though the Old Testament we see the family, the family’s rights, and the family’s future protected by members of the family. We find prohibitions within scripture against things that would destroy the family unit such as divorce, disobedient children, sibling rivalries, laziness, and the forsaking of the family. Scripture also gives us a standard of conduct that is to be followed within a family. Things like children are to be obedient and honor their parents, the husband is to be the head, fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath, parents are responsible for the religious training of their children. Fathers are to provide for his family. The family is to provide protection, the father for his family and the family members for others in the family. We also know we are urged to assemble together, family like, as Christians to encourage, edify and exhort one another to good works. Likewise the family is to do this within itself. |

209 | God talks of his animals | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232695
While many people feel certain that there are animals in heaven there is nothing I’m aware of that confirms that. There are verses people feel supports the idea most are vague and iffy. The only place I’m aware of that clearly suggests that there might be animals in heaven is Rev 19:11 where we see a white horse with Jesus seated upon it in heaven. Saying this probably won’t endear me with pet owners that have lost a beloved pet but honestly there isn’t any proof in scripture that we will ever see our pets again. |

212 | Is it O.K.. to marry twice? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232733
I don't believe Jesus ever said it was ok to marry twice unless the spouse was lost to death. Jesus spoke fairly strongly against divorce and remarriage as seen in the verses you quote. |

213 | What does urim and thummim mean? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232743
Scripture never provides a clear definition or description of the Urim and Thummim. All we know they were small enough to put in the breastplate the high priest wore. Some feel they may have been dies used to cast lots. But no one this side of heaven knows for sure. |

215 | Can anyone explain Mat 24:15? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232773
I just had an interesting discussion on Daniel's 70th week. What if there wasn’t a gap between the 69th and 70th week. The events that occurred in Daniel 70th week can easily be seen in history if we view the “he” of Daniel 9:27 as “HE” Jesus Christ who indeed did halt the sacrifice by rendering it useless. If the gap is removed then all of sudden the time line we use for Revelation is removed. It doesn't effect the Book of Revelation it only removes Daniels 70th week as being the time line. Now consider Revelation without the Daniel’s timeline and see how it more closely fits to Matthew 24:15. I’m not suggesting as Preterist often do that the events of Revelation have already occurred but rather I still believe them as being in the future but that Daniel’s 70th week was never the timeline for them. |

216 | Which two chapters are identical? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232809
The answer most often given for this question is 2 Kings 19 and Isaiah 37. But Psalm 14 and Psalm 53 are identical with the exception of some word choices in translation. |

217 | Romans in the light of Jonah does it say | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232813
When the question is asked, "What about people that never heard of Jesus?" Many using an understanding of Romans 1:18-32 say nature attests to God therefore those people are without excuse. The question then becomes if that understanding of Romans 1:18-32 is correct why did God go to such extremes, as seen in the Book of Jonah to send Jonah, to Nineveh to tell them of God? Also we see in the Book of Jonah that God chastened Jonah for his lack of compassion toward the people of Nineveh because Jonah wanted to withhold from them the truth of God. I wonder if the understanding that nature somehow attests to God so that any lack of knowledge of Jesus Christ is without excuse is perhaps wrong. It is very possible to know God but not to be saved or not to follow after God. The Book of James 2:19 tells us the Demons believe and actually shudder in fear of God but that does not save them. I think Romans 1:18-32 perhaps becomes an over simplified answer to a question that when we hold it to the light of all of scripture, it just may be one we really don't know the answer to. |

218 | Romans in the light of Jonah does it say | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232818
The question is stated in the second paragraph. It is if the understanding of Romans 1:19-32 which I detailed in my question is correct why did God go to such extremes as seen in the Book of Jonah to send Jonah to Nineveh to tell them of God? Why also did God chasten Jonah for his lack of compassion toward the people of Nineveh because Jonah wanted to withhold from them the truth of God? I then offered some food for thought that someone may use if they choose to explore these questions. |

220 | What is the law? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232831
The law is the blessings and curses that are included in and a normal part of all Blood Covenants. The timing of their giving was what was unique. The Law was given to Children of Israel that had been in slavery for 400 years. As slaves the Children of Israel was forced to live in a dog eat dog world and they eventually became a mirror of that world. Now upon their freedom they were without clue how to conduct themselves morally, socially, religiously or ethically, in fact they had to relearn and in some cases reinvent the Hebrew language. So God gave the Children of Israel social, moral, ethical guidelines and a religious system by which to live, to benefit them, to bring them into covenant relationship with God and to keep them there. However like everything man touches, man began to seek ways where he could keep these guidelines but accomplish his own desires. First man instead of seeking God’s explanation of the Law began to explain the Law himself. Then man eventually added to the Law often rendering the original intent of the law meaningless. Once again man’s rebellion to God could easily be seen in the burdensome legalistic approach man took to the Law. Instead of seeing how it benefitted them and the society they lived in they began to distort its intention and used it as their legal limits. |
