Bible Question: what does the bible say concerning family? |
Bible Answer: We see the family instituted in Genesis 2:23-24 and all though the Old Testament we see the family, the family’s rights, and the family’s future protected by members of the family. We find prohibitions within scripture against things that would destroy the family unit such as divorce, disobedient children, sibling rivalries, laziness, and the forsaking of the family. Scripture also gives us a standard of conduct that is to be followed within a family. Things like children are to be obedient and honor their parents, the husband is to be the head, fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath, parents are responsible for the religious training of their children. Fathers are to provide for his family. The family is to provide protection, the father for his family and the family members for others in the family. We also know we are urged to assemble together, family like, as Christians to encourage, edify and exhort one another to good works. Likewise the family is to do this within itself. |
