201 | Some Laodicean churches today? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 105332
Larrytw - Greetings! and as an old timer to a newcomer, I bid you good tidings and welcome. Our beloved friend, Mommapbs, whom you referred to in the masculine gender, is, by the way, a grand-mother! It is profitable to read the user profiles of other users, (Mommapbs', for example), and I heartily recommend this practice to all who are new to the Forum before they respond to posts. These profiles may be accessed (where available) by clicking onto the users' names on any one of their posts. It is most helpful to read the user profiles, and it is hoped that all registered users of the Forum will favor the other Forum users by posting a few lines about themselves, their theology, interests, vocation, families, etc. It is not a good idea to post personal information such as phone numbers or any other identifying information that could be confiscated and used in ways that would not be in the best interests of Forum registrants. --Hank
202 | how do you deal with unrequited feelings | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 107888
BNBRIONES - A cordial hello and best wishes for the New Year. Your response concerning your original question is so gracious that it prompts me to say a few words on the general topic of personal type advice-seeking questions. It is hoped that it will be of some benefit to you and to other new users as well. We have on this Forum a fairly large number of users who we might call veterans. They have been around for a long time and have amassed a large number of posts. Two of the respondents to your most recent question, Ray and Searcher, fall into the category of seasoned veterans. And we who have used the Forum for a long time are not prone to give forth with much personal advice. We have our reasons, foremost among them being that the Forum is designed as a medium for Bible study and we try to keep it on track. We really aren't properly qualified to dispense advice on private, personal matters such as one's love life or domestic entanglements. And even if we were, this is not the place to do it. It is the feeling of many, perhaps most, of us that counsel for personal problems of this nature is better sought from Christian counselors within one's own community and not on this, or any other, web site. The danger of obtaining bad and misleading advice on personal problems on an internet forum, this one or any other, is always clear and present. Thus when a responsible user of this Forum -- and Ray and Searcher have proved themselves to be just that -- refuses to give personal advice, please consider that they are not being uncivil toward anyone, but are in fact being very kind -- and very helpful and wise -- in suggesting that questions of this nature be brought before a qualified counselor in a real-life, one-on-one encounter in one's own local church or community. ...... I hope two things. I hope these words of explanation will give you a better understanding of the nature and purpose of StudyBibleForum. And I further hope that you will not feel abashed in asking a question that really doesn't come within the purview of the Forum, but that instead you will continue to participate in the Forum and feel free to ask biblically based questions and give biblically based answers to your heart's content. May God richly bless you. --Hank
203 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108268
Justme: Happy New Year, brother! ..... I've long entertained the notion that the primary reason that false prophets are able to sway so large a number of people is this: Ignorance, pure and simple. How can one discern the difference between a false prophet and a true one unless he knows what a true prophet is? And how can he know that unless he becomes himself a Berean and searches the Scriptures? Crass ignorance of Scripture is pandemic today, even among those who profess themselves to be Christian. Too many for too long have become so accustomed to being spoon fed their spiritual Pablum by the likes of Brother Benny or Sister Joyce that they scarcely know how, or bother, to learn how to dig in and study the Bible for themselves. The drummer that Christians should march to is the word of God, not the garish display of foolishness that one sees on parade in the three-ring circuses that masquerade as faith-healing extravaganzas. To support such farces as these is to make the fat cats fatter and the victims spiritually and financially leaner. To choose God's word over blatant deception is not always the popular road to take, but it is the only safe one. The true gospel of Jesus Christ leads to eternal life, but counterfeit gospels lead to eternal destruction. --Hank
204 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108273
Sonlight: The question never should be how many people the WOF preachers bring into their fold. It's like asking how many people can be deceived. The question on the table is, and ever ought to be, is the gospel of Christ being preached in all its purity and fullness? Put the garbage called Word-Faith that is being dumped on ignorant people under the searchlight of Scripture and it is found wanting every time. For a greater Forum discussion of this topic, use Search and type in such key concepts as Word of Faith, WOF, Hinn, Copeland, Meyer, Hagin, etc. --Hank
205 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108288
Sonlight - "Can this stop now?" If you are asking can (or should) the Word-Faith heresy be ignored for the sake of unity, my answer is an unvarnished No, it should not be ignored. Do you not think it possible to be unified in error and false teaching? I do. But is this the kind of unity in Christ the Bible talks about? Of course not. To achieve unity for unity's sake at the expense of sound doctrine is not a desirable goal. Christians are to preach the gospel and oppose false teaching wherever they find it. Here's what Paul said: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Preach the word; be diligent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but, after their own lusts, shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 3:16; 4:2-4). --Hank
206 | Why has the Bible not been added to? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108635
context - It strikes me as singularly odd and highly impertinent that you should take it upon yourself in your very first pair of posts to "correct" kalos, an original member of this Forum who has earned wide respect for his careful, scripturally sound contributions. I should think you would be better employed to correct your own theological blunders, for you sorely need to, as a casual glance at your corrupted version of "Hail Mary" in your user profile attests. Would you by any chance or design be Chochma reincarnate, who was recently banned for cause from active participation in the Forum by the Lockman Foundation? --Hank
207 | Why has the Bible not been added to? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108637
context - It is most disconcerting to read on a study Bible forum a post that purports to correct posts of other users (in this instance, kalos and Emmaus), and to see the post that presumes to correct so steeped in error. ...... Let me extract three fragments from just one of your sentences and weigh them in light of what Scripture actually says. ...... "Paul, a man who claimed a vision." Read what really happened in Acts 9, paying particular attention to Jesus' own words in Acts 9:11-16. ....... "and wrote his (Paul's) views via letters." That isn't what the Bible says. Read Paul's letters. Zero in on 1 Corinthians 2. ...... "to already established churches." This statement is a revelation of wholesale ignorance of the New Testament. What do you think Paul and his associates did on their three extended missionary journeys, if not to spread the gospel of Christ and establish churches? Read the book of Acts to get the true picture of the scope of Paul's missionary accomplishments. ..... I would not be so severe in my critical analysis of your post had you not, by your error-ridden post, had the temerity to presume to correct two of this Forum's most distinguished and reliable users. You failed miserably in your efforts. --Hank
208 | Citron Wood Rev. 18:12 | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108686
"Whatever Citron wood may be...only God can make a tree." [Adapted from the last line of Joyce Kilmer's "Trees." He concluded his poem with "Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree."] --Hank
209 | Best Bible to get | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 108752
Since when are Bible VERSIONS inspired, and who inspires them? Only the original autographs were divinely inspired. Note to Forum readers: Take what this user posts with a grain of salt -- make that a huge lump of salt. --Hank
210 | Living Prophets? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109143
Hi, Indy - I get the funny feeling that we may have been exposed to the psycho-babble of Paraclete before in the persons of Chochma, Context, and Kichmon. Look at Paraclete's off-the-wall nonsense in his user profile -- shades of the Chochma and his aliases whom Lockman has already booted for posting garbage. What manner of person would abuse a Bible forum in such a dastardly manner? Even pagans should have some sense of decency. I suggest we all turn in abuse reports and get this imposter out of here. This is ridiculous. Sincere users of this Bible forum don't have to put up with this sordid business. --Hank

Angelpenned - Chapters and verses serve primarily as points of reference in the Bible, not necessarily as aids to memorization. --Hank
212 | My questions are needed as I am leading | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109611
Angelpenned: "Salvation comes from believing in Jesus Christ," -- that would have been an excellent place to stop, without adding the phrase "securing your eternal destination through water baptism." The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (unique, only one of His kind), that whoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." [John 3:16]. The Bible says, "For by grace you have been saved through FAITH, and that (salvation) not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." [Ephesians 2:8,9]. ..... Man asks, "What must I do to be saved?" [Acts 16:30] ... The Bible answers, "BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved...[Acts 16:31] --Hank
213 | Why are there so many books in the Bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109612
Angelpenned - Fine answer to the question of why so many books in the Bible. I would, however, amend your answer slightly, to read thus: There are 66 books in the Bible because God meant it so and the content is exactly what God determined it to be. --Hank
214 | Why are there so many books in the Bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109645
Earnest - I fail to find a causal relationship between the number of books in the Bible and the number of people in the world. Where did you do your research for this one? --Hank
215 | Is marriage necessary? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109659
Earnest - The question was what it was, and I attempted to answer it just as it was posed. ..... You asked about my surname. No, it isn't as you may have inferred. Is yours Hemingway? --Hank
216 | What is marriage? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109788
Kalos, eons ago (or so it seems) before the dawn of the day in which I became a denizen of this Forum and adopted it as my sometime habitation on those occasions when it seemed good to absent myself from the real world, it was my hap to believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, instituted and sanctioned by God and attested by the proper authorities of the state of one's abode. Apparently my naivete is showing, for now I read on the Forum something that appears to my untutored mind to be gobbledygook, but perhaps it only appears that way to me because I have not yet emerged into the complex and confusing world in which it is possible to be married and yet not be married and, conversely, to be unmarried and yet be married. Oh, I'm at the end of my tether and pray that some kind soul can unkink my kinks and disembarrass my soul of my possible misconceptions of what constitutes marriage and what does not. Until that hour comes, I remain a poor, wayfaring soul lost in a dark wood, sans compass, sans dictionary or marriage manual. Woe is me, woe indeed. Sigh. --Hank
217 | Is marriage necessary? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109792
Astute observations on marriage, Emmaus. Harsh perhaps, but that's the way it is; you mirror with accuracy and candor the bitter reality of a paper marriage devoid of committment. Superb post! --Hank
218 | Is marriage necessary? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109808
Makarios - What a felicitous report of news! Every good wish for success and happiness to you and to the beautiful young lady, most sincerely. --Hank
219 | Christian Nation? You decide. | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109886
Mommapbs - "Lilithcrown" is yet another in a series of aliases that have been used by the person who began as "Chochma." Chochma, along with all his other aliases, has been kicked off the Forum for obvious reasons by the Lockman Foundation. What manner of person would be so vile, so depraved, and so disrespectful of God's word and God's people that they would engage in deceit of this magnitude? This person apparently has no sense of decent behavior and no respect for anyone, including himself. The best course to take, I believe, is to ignore this imposter and report his shenanigans to Lockman. Never before in the history of this Forum has anyone made such a total and unmitigated fool of himself. --Hank
220 | Girlfriends racist parents. HELP ME! | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 109939
Compudex - Where on earth did you cook up the idea that this was a same-sex relationship? May I strongly suggest that you read with extreme care the post to which you so vigorously and accusingly responded and print a retraction of what in all likelihood is a grossly error-ridden assumption. --Hank
