262 | Bible, book and verse Steppenwolf locat | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120002
Steve: My great grand-father George claimed to have found the word "Steppenwolf" in the Transylvania Edition of the Columbus Standard Version of 1492. He said it was in Hezekiah 13:13. The Book of Hezekiah never made it into the KJV of 16ll. No one really knows why. Great grand-father George said he knew why, but he never would tell anyone. Folks who knew George said it had something to do with Transylvania. He spent several years in a castle there doing some experiments. --Hank
263 | Bible, book and verse Steppenwolf locat | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120053
Hi, Rowdy! Threads tend to wax nutty at times, this thread being a fine example. But I've never seen a thread restricted or a user censored for using wholesome humor. On the contrary, I've seen well-placed humor on the Forum avert potential disasters and heal hurt feeling and neutralize animosities. I do trust that new user cpowell will recognize that we were laughing at a funny situation -- laughing at ourselves and not at him. Kalos' one-word post "Steppenwolf?" tickled my funny-bone and fired my imagination to produce the wild tale about my fabled ancestor, George. .... So, cpowell, if you are reading this post, please take no offense by our goofy antics. Fact is, most of us old heads on this Forum are at our funniest and are most hilarious and ridiculous when we are trying our best to be serious :-) --Hank

cpowell: I do appreciate your fine attitude. Come to think about it, it must have been perplexing to you as a new user to figure out what in the world was going on and what all the horse play was about yesterday! But I sense that you have a better handle on it now and am delighted that you have chosen to stay with us. It's a good idea to lighten up a little as you say. But please don't lighten up too much! If you get too bright, you'll show the rest of us up :-). Welcome, and let us know if we can help you in any way. --Hank
265 | Happiness0070: How old are you? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120111
happiness0070: I've read your posts to date, all 31 of them, and it gives me no happiness -- 0070 or any other kind -- to report to you that I don't understand your first post, your 31st post, or any other post in between. Let's talk frankly and stop the silly games. I have some questions that I am going to ask you and I expect straight answers. Are you being silly by design and teasing this Forum out of some impure motive? Your writing points to a serious deficiency in handling the English language. There can be many causes for this, of course, but the first thing that usually comes to mind is that your native tongue is not English. Is this true? The solitary word MISSIONARY in your user profile doesn't tell us much about you. Would you care to expand your profile? Your speaking in riddles is juvenile; it is not cute, not amusing, and not proper on a Bible study Forum such as this. In your 31 posts thus far, you've created quite a stir and evoked some pointed reactions from fellow Forum users. But is the attention you've attracted to yourself the sort of attention you desire? A streaker in a busy shopping mall can attract attention, but who wants that kind of attention? Please respond to the questions I've already asked as well as to the following one: Have you come to this Forum with full knowledge of what it is, what it stands for, what its rules are, and are you willing to comply to the best of your ability with the Forum guidelines that the Lockman Foundation, sponsor of this web site, has laid down regarding proper use of this Forum? ..... If perchance you have a serious illness or disability that militates against your being able to communicate fluently and coherently, my heart and prayers go out to you, and if such is the case, it may not be in your best interests to continue to try to post under such adverse circumstances. If, on the other hand, you are being less than forthright with your fellow users of this Forum, it will be in your best interests to straighten up and fly right. These remarks are not intended to raise your ire or intimidate you. But it is their aim to get to the bottom of this apparent cat-and-mouse nonsense, to the end that you will choose to play fairly or not play at all. --Hank
266 | Do Angels have Genders? Male and Female? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120579
Itiswritten: No one is so pedantically inclined as an English major, so I beg your indulgence, but isn't it better usage to speak of angels as being "immortal creations of God" than "eternal creations of God"? What do you think? --Hank
267 | Holy Bible makes reference to America | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120582
EdB: You're right about no reference in the Bible to America. The closest would be Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" and America is a part of earth. But there is a direct reference in the Bible to my home state, Arkansas. --Hank
268 | Holy Bible makes reference to America | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 120584
EdB: Somehow I just knew you would ask :-) Are you ready for this? ....My home state is referenced in the story of Noah's Flood. Noah looked out of the Arkansas a flood. (Will you ever speak to me again?) --Hank

tgc: It occurs to me than since you are relatively new to the Forum, you may need a tip about how to reference a post by its number. To do that, go to Quick Search on the right of your screen and type in the number. To reference a post by content, use Search on the left, type in the user's name in the block provided and in the block under it, type in a key word or two. --Hank
271 | How do you define cult? | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 121578
tgc: You may have noted that this thread has recently been restricted, not because of your posts, which are fine, but because of bstudent's posts. The Lockman Foundation revoked this user's account for cause on April 22, 2004. Additional steps are being taken to prevent further posts by this user. I thought you should know the story so that you wouldn't think you had anything to do with the thread suppression. --Hank

275 | Question about nations of the world | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 124550
Country Girl: I must disagree with your conclusion that a study of the nations of Genesis 10 "shouldn't be important to Christians at all" and that "this kind of discussion just breeds disrespect and sometimes even prejudice." I base my disagreement on the premise that no part of Scripture is unimportant, and I cannot for the life of me see how a genealogical study such as this could possibly breed disrespect or prejudice. Perhaps you can justify your remarks to Chusarcik. --Hank
276 | entering church with shoes | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 124674
gundalas: When one reads Exodus 3:5 IN CONTEXT, he readily discovers that this verse is an extract from the famous burning bush passage in which God himself appears to Moses in what theologians call a theophany. God's command to Moses to remove his sandals on this highly significant occasion does not constitute a foundaton upon which to base a doctrine that worshipers must worship barefooted. And it makes no difference what Hindus in India do. Christians take their marching orders from the Bible, not from the Bhagavad Gita. --Hank
277 | Bibical mean for LOVE, WISDOM AND LIGHT | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 124878
Country Girl: It's rather surprising that as a scriptural guide to wisdom you named Ecclestiastes while omitting Proverbs. In keeping with my insistence on context, I am inclined to view as adequate nothing less than the entire Bible as the proper resource for discovering God's meaning of all three: love, wisdom, and light. In no way do I condemn your answer, Country Girl. I'm merely expanding on it a bit. Hope you don't mind. :-) Blessings in Christ. --Hank
278 | Bibical mean for LOVE, WISDOM AND LIGHT | Bible general Archive 2 | Hank | 124882
Country Girl: Yes, the Book of Ecclesiastes has all the earmarks of a man trying to work himself out of "mid-life crisis." I know a Christian woman who gave up the effort to read the book; she says every time she has tried to read it, it puts her into a state of deep depression! Whatever else may be said of Ecclestiastes, it is not one of the better examples of a 'feel good' book. The first 11 chapters carry the reader through a tunnel that has very little light, and only in the final chapter do we begin to realize that there is an end to this dank and dark tunnel and that Solomon found it at last. Depressing? Yes, it can be. But it does pack a mighty wallop: It offers the only way of escape from the 'vanity of vanites' of this world, which is to "fear God and keep His commandments" (Eccl. 12:13). I'm not quite prepared to agree without reservation with your assessment that Ecclesiastes is deeper than Proverbs, although you may be right. In a certain sense the Book of Job could be viewed as being both deeper and more provocative of thought than either. ..... But all the books of Scripture have their place and purpose, of course. It is one of the marvels and wonders of God's word that each of the 66 books of the Bible reveals God from its own unique perspective, each book being different from all the others, yet all coming together in harmony to weave a complete and perfect fabric of truth. --Hank

Dear fellow loco, kalos! :-) I'm NOT 10 years older than you -- I'm only 120 months your senior. And if anyone who is still active has been on this Forum longer than you or I, they have my deepest sympathy! It's been quite a ride for both of us, hasn't it, my good friend? And what a rewarding friendship it has been for me to know you and others whom I respect and love in the Lord. And how pleasant and worthwhile a place the Forum would be if all users were as nice as "Doc," the person you addressed in your post to which I've appended this note. May the Lord bless and keep you, Kalos. --Hank
