I don't post very many questions to the Forum for the same reason as Ancient's caution I just read. Some folks on the Forum don't seem to be very tolerant to others with a different opinion (from tradition) about God's Word. But I do like to look around for those posts with very little response and do what I can. I guess we're all smarting a little from all the grief and heartache meted out over the last couple of days. In this passage, Isaiah Chapter 3, it seems the prophet is forecasting the future of his beloved homeland and what a severe future it is. It seems downright scary. By all accounts from history, I understand Rome's destruction of Jeruselem was quite brutal and unmerciful just like the Lord warned. What do you think of this chapter? Could it be a warning to America? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

164 | Some verses don't stand alone well | Is 3:21 | Country Girl | 126889
When I read your words, I can only remember the words of our Lord, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Those words apply to ALL of us, as we were ALL represented there at the cross. Yes, of course the Jews were there but the rest of the world was well represented by the Romans, most especially Pilate who just wanted to be left alone to "wash his hands of the matter." Yes, I agree with you dear friend. "There but by the Grace of God, go I," as I too have served my time in the prison of selfishness. Only now in these last few years have I begun to truly pay back for all the wrongs I've perpetrated and "kicking against the goads." Blessings to you for your maturity. Country Girl |

166 | follow-up question. | Is 9:6 | Country Girl | 129424
I'll take a shot at your question. I've posted about this subject in a vague sort of way in the past. We need to understand the world back then was far more addicted to this physical world than we are in this current age. They wanted their Messiah to come back and deliver them from the Romans. We see that most clearly in Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 6Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Here we see the resurrected Christ with His disciples just moments before His ascension to His Father. He has been to cross, died for all mankind, and He's been raised from the dead. The most fantastic miracle ever performed in the whole history of this planet. And His disciples ask if He is now ready to take Israel back to its proper prominence in the world when He's already predicted its doom in just a few years. They, His disciples apparently were ready at that very moment to take up the sword against the Roman army and deliver Israel from bondage. No, if the disciples couldn't possibly understand God's plan for us as His children, the rest of the Israelite nation couldn't be expected to as they hadn't spent 3 and one half years with the Lord as these gentlemen had. It took the special empowerment and God given knowledge of the Holy Spirit a few days later for the Apostles to know and then spread the Word to the rest of the world. We must remember "God's Ways are simply NOT man's ways." We are and our thoughts to Him are much like the ants are to us, only farther and far more in contrast. Now, don't get me wrong. We in this dispensation don't do any better. Just look at the history of this planet since the advent of Christianity. We continue in wars, constant world-wide conflict and we can't even agree on what God says in His very own Book. The Book written by men who gave their very lives believing to their dying breath every Word therein. No, we don't have a single thing to brag about. We're all prone to think of ourselves when we're in a crisis. Absolutely none of us could hold a candle to what Christ did or even the Apostles did; mainly because they had the Spirit of God to assist them. We humans have only one thing to look forward to if any of us are looking for the "good life" and that's after Judgment Day. Praise the Lord till that day comes and blessings to you. Country Girl |

167 | follow-up question. | Is 9:6 | Country Girl | 129491
The main difference between us and the Apostles in the first century was the baptismal measure of the Holy Spirit. Only the Apostles were able to perform miracles AND lay their hands on others, bestowing those same miraculous powers. So we're not able to perform miracles like those performed in the first century. This phase out of the miraculous age was predicted in 1 Cor 13. Apparently, God wanted us to come to Him more out of faith than belief in miracles manifested by men. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

168 | once saved always saved? | Jer 32:40 | Country Girl | 128607
If I may interject: Generally, the main theme throughout the whole Bible is against the idea of "once saved, always saved." Starting with Adam and Eve: there they were in the most perfect of living conditions ever known on this planet. No work for either of them, just naming of animals, pluck some fruit for sustinence and an ocassional walk with God. Now of course they were supposed to avoid those two trees but other than that, there wasn't anything they couldn't do. We all know that story pretty well but my point is that God provides for a rescue like Noah and his ark out of the destructive flood or the delivery of the Jews from Egyptian bondage and human beings continue to give up on God and prefer their own way. For example, the Jewish nation is commanded to take over the land of Cannaan and kill all the inhabitants. But greedy ole Aachan steals some gold and hides it under his family's tent. His punishment is not meted out to just him but his whole family. They're stoned to death in accordance with God's Law by the whole group, Joshua 7. How much more to the point does our Lord need to be? If you disobey God, you receive His punishment. It may not be as immediate as this as God is incredibly kind and patient. But we do "reap what we sow." In the NT, we have several examples of christians who were saved but didn't stay that way. From Ananias, with Sapphira in Acts 5 to Alexander and Hymenaeus in 1 Tim 1, God shows very plainly that His children mess up and go bad just ours here on earth. Every parent knows the possibility and some actually experience the knowledge of a child that breaks the law and goes to prison or maybe gets himself executed. And this is after they as parents did the best they could in rearing that child with love and patience. Now, thanks be to God, we're also given an example of a christian who sins after being saved and repents to gain forgiveness. This example is Simon the sorcerer in Acts 8. So we as christians must see ourselves in need of daily repenting and taking advantage of the constant cleansing blood of our Lord as described in 1 John 1. This would apply to both sins of commision and omission. No, my friend there's just too much evidence in the Bible to draw any other conclusion, in spite of the few verses that seem to offer some vague support of this philosophy. I've been taught those verses instead simply reflect the Lord's very intense desire that we all become obedient and inherit our reward in Heaven. But there is no such thing as eternal security IF a person doesn't remain faithful to his Lord and Master. Blessings to you, dear friend. Country Girl |

169 | is the seed non-human? | Dan 2:43 | Country Girl | 133532
I must admit this controversy about life from the test tube of a scientist sometime in the future is probably going to be a very severe problem for our generations in the future, maybe even our grandkids or our great-grandkids. Suffice it to say at the current rate of progress in this field of genetics, my wife and I were motivated to teach our boys as solid a faith in God as possible. We talked about this at length and spent many nights in prayer about it. Here's the bottom line I presented to my family. Even when and if that day does appear and some strange new form of life does progress and graduate from a scientist's test tube, it won't shake my faith. That's because I read my Bible and in Genesis, it says "God created..." the whole universe and everything in it. That means He took nothing, an absolute void and created everything without the modern advent of science, tools and thousands of years of experienmentaion. To man, He gave the gift of intellect and the tools to make his world of tools and science. So this latest development of science doesn't shake my faith and I did my best to instill that same degree of devotion and faith in our sons. That's about all I can recommend to all of us. Each of us must study and think about this because this storm of controversy is coming along with all the legal and moral consequences so we need to steel ourselves to anchor ourselves in our faith to God. I don't really think there will be much of a way of retarding this kind of progress as it's always been difficult to stop this kind of ocean of development with mankind in the past. But we do need to cling to the "Rock of Ages" and train up our young people to do likewise. The continuing trend to disrepect God and leave Him behind in this scientific onslaught will not be pretty and I'm a big fan of science, astronomy, etc. I do sincerely hope this post is helpful and somewhat uplifting to everyone reading it. God's people are all to be encouraged to be faithful. God bless. Rowdy |

Please don't be offended but my post was directed to DocT who obviously reads far more than either of us. His posts reflect a great amount of study and reading on his part. I do appreciate your contributions to the Forum. Your questions provoke a lot of good thinking and responses. I'm just trying to help you understand the structure of these threads on the Forum; they can be a little tricky, especially when you're new. By the way, welcome to the Forum and blessings to you. 172 | explain anthropomorphism | Hos 11:8 | Country Girl | 128353
Quoted from your statement: A. W. Tozer wrote, "Perverted notions about God soon rot the religion in which they appear. The long career of Israel demonstrates this clearly enough, and the history of the Church confirms it. So necessary to the Church is a lofty concept of God that when that concept in any measure declines, the Church with her worship and her moral standards declines along with it. The first step down for any church is taken when it surrenders its high opinion of God." My response: Although I can agree with some of what Mr. Tozer is trying to say, we can't underestimate the power and persistence of our God. Instead of comparing the church to a "fruit" subject to rot, we must see the True Lord's church as being a diamond in the ruff. That diamond as described in the NT was perfect and all we can do is hope to imitate that standard as closely as possible. It is up to each generation of God's children to "rediscover, reform or restore," do whatever is necessary to keep the church pure and undefiled from the influence of the world. Sometimes that takes a great deal of introspection on an individual basis as well as a congregational basis. We should all ocassionally look at our traditions and recognize them for what they are and decide to take ownership of them, improve or discard them. We should all ocassionally discuss and confirm that we are doing those things that are commanded of God's family to make certain that we're not disqualified like Paul prayed about himself. We should see this as a refining process, again like that of a lump of coal into a diamond. We can never hope to actually reach perfection but we MUST do our best to try. Thus we draw closer and closer to God as He draws us toward that goal. I do hope I'm clear on this deep and complicated subject. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

173 | Impatience with the World | Jon 4:11 | Country Girl | 129177
Yes, I agree with you to think in this area and be impulsive is very dangerous. In our more sober moments when we really take time to think long and hard, it's times like these when we do best and most noble thinking. Sometimes, I think back and try to place myself in the days mentioned in the Bible stories we read. For example in your story of Jonah and Ninevah, if you or I were in that town on that day, would we have done any better? If you or I were in Jonah's shoes, would we have felt the same way? In the story of Noah and the flood, had we been in the shoes of any one of those eight people that survived, would God find us worthy? Or would we have been one of several million people that perished in that story? Oh, but then thanks be to God, we can read God's Word, especially in 1 John 2 and "know for certain, we're in Christ," since we've obeyed His commandments. Yes, what a comfort. Blessings to you. 174 | What God requires of us. Micah 6:8 | Micah | Country Girl | 124440
Mic 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? I would say this is a good start, but don't you think there's a lot more to the question and answer but just these few lines? Seems like you've left out the whole NT. Would you care to elaborate a little more? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

175 | The Great Difference | Zech 10:2 | Country Girl | 130987
Great words. So true, we ourselves don't have a prayer of measuring up on Judgment Day without God's Grace to help us, here and now, every day, every hour of our lives. Just one question. I love to find out about names. Did the author pronounce his last name with the "p" in the first or second syllable? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

So I assume his name is pronounced Top-lady. I noticed he only lived 38 years, as you mentioned. Do you know why life was cut short? Sorry for all these questions. I'm kinda busy with school homework (two courses) and a full-time job. I appreciate your patience and responses. You surely are a wealth of knowledge. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

If you'll insert the word "unpardonable sin" or "blaspheme Holy Spirit" into the Quick Search on your screen, you'll receive a tremendous wealth of information. I know because I just did; some of the statements go back years. I mentioned those two different phrases because you can't squeeze all those words into one search. Blessings to you in your study. 180 | Denounce militant Islam? | Matt 5:44 | Country Girl | 131602
I can't believe I read the whole thing. Although there's a slight urge in me as a fellow human to agree with you, there's a Holy Spirit within me endorsing what my conscience is whispering. Yes, we see great cruelty and very horrible actions from the militant Islam but then so did those who lived through the Spanish Inquisitions and the Crusades before that. That's one of the world's most recurring themes throughout its history, the struggle depicted between good and evil but even so with all that as a given fact, we're still told by Christ, the Ruler of this world to "forgive our enemies and bless them that persecute us." I agree with you, sometimes this is VERY tough to do, especially with a genuine heart of love and NOT feel what our gut instinct tells us to feel. We must repeat over and over to ourselves that we must hate the sin but love the sinner, as does our God above. I was brought up in a military family and have been myself involved in supporting the military war machine in the overseas theatre and I do support our country's attempt to right the wrongs in the Middle East and try to get those folks started toward a more sane form of self government but we also should realize Christ's way is the best way. You post comes dangerously close to inciting a riot so I would remind you and all other readers only the "peacemakers will be called sons of God," Matt 5. After all, if we retaliate as you're suggesting, we're no better than the evil they are perpetrating on the world. Now, as a practical matter, I do hope and pray that countries across the globe will unite with us and try to form a united front and literally ostracize this terrorism element and try them for the crimes and carry out the proper punishment as determined by the courts. But this must be done with a focus on some semblence of justice instead of vengence. That's the only way, we could hope to get God's blessing on our actions. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
