Jesus' statement is two fold: 1) It transfers the Old Testament mandate applied only to God--those that blaspheme God/His name would die--to the Holy Spirit, this demonstrates that the Holy Spirit is God. 2) It warns that if we reject the Holy Spirit (God's Holy Spirit/Jesus' Holy Spirit), we are doomed because only the Holy Spirit can enlighten us and bring us to God! It is the Holy Spirit who will reveal the fulness of Truth (John 16:13)... it is the Holy Spirit who reveals God to man (Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30) and if we reject Him by denying that it is He who speaks to us or that it is He through whom the Father and the Son operate (Romans 14:17-18) we are condemned by our disbelief--there is no way that God can forgive us from not believing because it is our choice not to believe and repent and obey His Authority! Hi, Lisa G! 1 Peter 3:18-20 further explains 1 Peter 4:6... Jesus Himself tells us that the dead will hear His voice and that those that hear (listen/believe), will have Life! With the millions of babies being killed by abortionists and their corrupt doctors, I am sure that the Holy Spirit visits each and every babe to teach him/her about Jesus (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13; Romans 8:26-27)... some would argue that babes cannot know Christ because they are not cognizant of the world, let alone the Gospel... yet the contrary is quite factual: babes recognize their Mom's voice, their father's and close relations even from the womb... and when the womb is assaulted babes retract, seeking refuge from the intruder's murderous tools! Not only that, but it is Biblical that even babes in their Mom's wombs can receive the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:36-44)... true, this was a very special situation (the Lord's precursor was being visited by the Lord Himself!)... but the fact remains that it was through the Holy Spirit that Jesus, barely deposited in His Mom's womb reached out to John the Baptist, only six months into his Mom's pregnancy... further, Elizabeth herself recognizes that Mary is the Mother of he Lord--this even before a word is said to her by Mary! It is God who ultimately decides who goes to Heaven and who does not (Matthew 7:21-23)... to God all life is precious and just as He stepped in when Israel's shepherds deserted their commission, I am sure that He steps in whenever a single babe's life is robbed from him/her! Hi, Malcom777! When Scripture speaks of leaving everything for Jesus Christ... it means just that! The twelve disciples, as well as some others, left their families, jobs, friends, towns, etc... in order to walk with Jesus... those who are called to serve the Lord must be willing to do the same... yet, not eveybody is called to minister to the world... and not all who give up things/people do it for the Lord... How is it that you gave up your family, job, etc. for the Lord... are you a volunteer minister, preacher, evengelist...? "during the alpha course i somehow commited an eternal sin by swearing against the Holy spirit (was not planned)" Are you saying that you no longer believe in Jesus Christ or that you doubt His Power? Are you rejecting the Holy Spirit as God? Are you rejecting His Power to teach you and Save you? By asking/telling God to kill you you are provoking His anger... but more dangerous than that, you are rejecting His gift of life--in essence, you are saying that you know better than God... remember the parable of the coins? You have to work with whatever you have! Do you believe that God has the power to protect you from evil? Do you believe that God is stronger than Satan? Do you believe that Jesus died for you: to save you from yourself and from the powers of sin? God does not want you to perish! Jesus came to rescue all who humbly believe in Him from eternal damnation and no amount of stupidity, sin, ignorance, or any other limitations can void Christ's Sacrifice on the Cross! In Him you are free from the wages of sin! Let Him use you! Repent from your prideful behavior! Reject Satan and all the doubt that he has placed in your path! Get closer to God, serving willingly and humbly and He will get closer to you! There are many on-line Bible Study Groups, join as many as you are able; search the Scripture for answers; stay in a prayerful disposition every day, and every hour of the day! Remember that your battle is not as simple as it seems... your struggle is with spiritual principalities (Satan and his minions) and you yourself are not strong enough to face them; seek Jesus! Your argument reminds me of a person who confessed to me that he was having trouble accepting God as a loving God and yet condemning people to Hell (he pointed out several Scriptural passages, including the devastation and wrath to come in Revelation)... God's Way is not easily understood... His Way differ from our finite comprehension so that we, in good intent, fall out of our Faith... To better understand what you are proposing (God's accountable for our wicked acts and desire because he controls all, all of the time, lest He losses His Authority...) read, carefully, Romans 9:1 through 11:32--specificly, pay close attention to 11:32! God has no need for us to perish (eternal damnation in Hell) and He states so unequivocally throughout Scripture (Isaiah 1:18-20; Ezekiel 18:30-32; Matthew 16:26; Luke 9:56; John 3:17-21)... it is our choice that free us or condemn us! And don't fret for those who died prior to the Word's incarnation... these people were truly unaware of Christ's Mercy, yet they too were taken into account by God's Salvific Plan! Hi, dr01871! It is interesting to find that even today the people of God continue to circumvent God's Word! I offer the example of the people of Israel... they brough a woman to Jesus accusing her of committing adultery... they wanted to engage Jesus and to test His abilities... clearly they were following the Law (Mosaic Laws) that demanded that those caught in/discovered to engage in an adulterous relationship be put to death! There was only one flaw in their plan: they only sought to apply the Law to the woman! (John 8:1-11)... Jesus was not condoning adultery (Matthew 5:27-30), He was showing mercy and ignoring their unjust application of the Law! Conversely, today's Christians want the females to be totally subserviant, allowing all sorts of abuse and neglect to go uncontested and uncorrected... that is not Jesus' Command! Notice that when addressing the marital union Christ calls it a union of two bodies becoming one, under God (Matthew 19:4-6); Paul expands on this by further defining the relationship between a husband and his wife: 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:25, 28-29, 31, 33) Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. (Colossians 3:19) In order for your spouse to claim to be a Christian, he must abide by God's standard of spousal obligations... He cannot love you in the Lord if he is constantly assaulting you (physically, emotionally, intellectually, morally, spiritually))... if he does not have your best interests at heart (including your children's welfare: physical, emotional, spiritual), how can he love you as he loves himself (Christ's Command)? How can he claim to be the spiritual head of your household? Our call as Christians is to obey God... not to pick and choose and to apply to others those portions of God's Mandates that suit our egotistical purposes! Sadly, too many women allow their spouses to bankrupt them (spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially), in a mistaken belief that they are pleasing God by allowing the husbands to use and abuse them (and their children)... Love is not selfish nor lacking compassion and humility--any relationship that removes Christ from its center will lack compassion, respect, charity and nurturing... it will only revolved around selfishness, neglect and exploitation! I do caution you not to seek a divorce just to be free to jump into another relationship--it may be time for you to rethink your priorities and to restructure your general perspective on "having that special someone" with whom to share your life; I am not preaching celibacy... but you do have two "special someones" in your life... perhaps you should concentrate in your relationship with the Lord and with your two children, before moving on to a third attempt at marital bliss! Conversely Jesus warns about calling our brethren fools (Matthew 5:21-24)... we are Commanded by Christ, our Lord and God, to love one another, demeaning another person, made in the image and likeness of God, not only disobeys a direct Command but it also has terrible consequences in the eyes of God! We know that God keeps safe those He loves... and we know that the Holy Spirit prays for us in manners that we do not even understand (Romans 8:26-27)... we also know that God is immensely Merciful... This of course does not mean that we have a built-in excuse to perform abortions or suicides... God is not a merchant of death, seeking to bring the innocent and the dishearted to Himself... He wants us to rely on His abilities to provide for us (Matthew 6:25-33)... Is God a merciful God that will embrace babies and children when they are cutoff in the essence of life? Yes! "Is one of gthemh Moses?" Hi, Hirotami! Yes! Moses is one of them... though it is better exemplified in Hebrews 11--the chapter about faith; specifically, verses 23-28! And, yes, if viewed individually and out of context (attempting to reason a command to take possession of the land with a command to be content with what one has), it does seems that God is contradicting Himself... but when we realize that Israel was not yet established as a people (free of the oppression of Egypt) and that God's Plan revealed to Abraham that he would take possession of the Promised Land--through his descendants--we can contrast the Old Covenant to the New Covenant which was established by Jesus, in the fullness of times... a Covenant that did away with much of the limitations and physical components of the Mosaic Law, we can see that God's people are being ushered into a higher spiritual existance, as more knowledge about God has been revealed to them then at any other time before Jesus' incarnation (1 Corinthians 2:7-10; Galatians 3:21-26; Ephesians 3:3-7; 1 Peter 1:10-25). Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21) So the fullness of God is found in Christ (Colossians 2:2-3) and is given to us through the Holy Spirit--which part is more important? Who can we ignore? Can we gain Salvation without the fullness of God in the manner that He has chosen to reveal Himself to us? Would the Father, Almighty God, allow us to get near Him when we empty ourselves of the Son or of the Holy Spirit? Romans 14:17-18 clearly state the Holy Trinity as a single unit of God: if we Serve Christ Jesus in the Holy Spirit we please God!: 17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. Paul is pleased to be a minister of the Gospel of God, not that there is another Gospel other than the Gospel of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:4), because he is procuring the sanctification of the Gentiles, which is done by the power of the Holy Spirit!: Romans 15 16to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Even when requesting prayers, Paul uses the formula of the Holy Trinity: the One God in three Divine Persons: Romans 15 30I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. In Corinthians, Paul warns of about destroying (misusing) the Temple of God, which is our own bodies, and he reveals that our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, which was bought by Jesus!: 1 Corinthians 3 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 6 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. When we dissect Scripture and we hyper-analyze individual verses, are we being honest with God and ourselves or are we just attempting to impose our finite understanding on God? What does Scripture say about Christ’s resurrection? Does it not say that God raised Him from the dead? Does it not say that God’s Spirit raised Him from the dead? Who is right? Who is wrong? And when we include Jesus’ own statement--where do we go? Who has the final Word, the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit?: Galatians 1 1Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- 1 Peter 1 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. |

Part 1 of 3 It is difficult to give a simplistic response to Scripture... when we divorce a Scriptural passage from the rest of the Bible, we can easily twisted to mean anything the mind of man can conveive... including separating God into sub-units of hierarchy (an Almighty part, and some secondary part/s)... When we read Scripture in the totality of the Bible we find different meanings to simplistic interpretations: Jesus tells us that the Father is greater than Him and we must believe! But why do we doubt when Jesus tells us that He and the Father are One, or when Jesus tells us that the Father lives in Him and that He lives in the Father, or when Jesus tells us that who ever has seen Him has seen the Father? Noticed that Jesus said only once that the Father was greater than He... and He said more than once that He and the Father were one and the same? The problem is not Jesus or Scripture! The problem is our limited and finite ability to accept everything that God reveals to us as the Truth! How can God be God and yet exist in sublevels? We cannot take God and distribute Him as we please! We cannot deny the passages of Scripture that we do not understand or refuse to accept while magnifying those passages that we think we understand or that we think that support our “personal theology!” If we separate God from God… where do we begin? Which part of God belongs exclusively to the Father, which part to the Son, which part to the Holy Spirit! Clearly, 1 Corinthians 12:3 is very succinct and unyielding!: We cannot worship the Father if we reject the Son and we cannot call Jesus Lord if not in the Holy Spirit! There’s no circumventing God’s Command: to love the Father we must come to the Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son, through the Grace and Charity of the Holy Spirit! We find this Truth amplified in Ephesians 1:3-23: Spiritual Blessings in Christ 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. When we read the Gospels we find that He was constantly praying... constantly seeking the Father... constantly teaching, through example how and what we are to do! Not once is there a reference to any type of enhancement psychoactive or otherwise... in the fifties, sixties, and seventies there were many cults that relied heavily on one type of drug or another or even a concoction of several types... some Indians (aborigines) are said to use local herbs and other natural based extracts to reach "high planes of enlightenment"--I believe that it is still practiced in the Orient... Scripture is very clear on the issue of being under the influence of anything (alcohol, magic, divination, spiritism...); anything that taps into our subconscious opens up a window of opportunity for Satan who operates under the guise of an angel of light... Forget about external enhancements... you already have the bounty of God in you, if you are a servant of Christ... for you have been saved to be a prisoner of the flesh and the concupiscence of the flesh but to abide in God's Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:3-8) The only thing we need to get closer to God is humility and obedience... we must allow the Holy Spirit to enhance our Faith and our understanding of God's Will for our lives and for the edifying of the Church: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. I've yet to find a passage in the Bible that speaks against gambling... there are passages that do speak on how certain decisions were made by the use of some sort of "luck of the draw" type of determination... as a matter of fact the replacement for Judas was selected by drawing lots! Gambling, like most things in life, if done in moderation and in God's Will, have no ill effect on our spiritual life... it is much as the old rule of thumb ("love of money")... if we replace God or act in a manner that is harmful to us or to others, even falling in love with our "soul" mate can be detrimental to our spiritual wellbeing... One word of caution... could you use a different screen name? deuce sounds very much like gambling could be an integral part of your dialy life (deuces wild)... On your second point... the Bible does speak on how God allows the wicked to amass fortunes that they will never enjoy; though I would not categorize all of the people involved in the tennessee lotto games as wicked... I do suspect that the wicked do become entrenched in "get rich quick schemes;" the difference between them and Christians is that they do not believe that they have to answer to God for any of their actions; while the Christian's actions must be dictated by God's Word. I believe that the only way that you should reject a college grant from the lotto agency is if there is proof that they are soliciting illigal gains (drug, prostitution, contraband...) or that they are directly responsible for causing people to become addicted to gambling in order to provide the grants' moneys. Hi, Charlotte! Revelation does not speak on correction of children... There is a passage in Proverbs that speaks on duly correcting children or allowing them to become spoiled brats: He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. (Proverbs 13:24) This, of course, does not give Christians license to beat their children! What you have described is a very dangerous situation... your daughter's condition can be explosive, unpredictable, and hazardous to your grandchildren... Aside from praying about it, I suggest that you contact your daughter's previous doctor, get at much information about her condition, if she continues to refuse treatment, and speak to her husband with the assistance of a third party and the information gathered from her doctor... perhaps you and your son-in-law could come to an agreement and even visit with your daughter's present "pastor" to make him aware of the particular situation in which your grandchildren are found... he may be intelligent enough to intervene on the children's behalf and convince your daughter to continue her medication... Hi! I think that you are missing the point of God's proclamation of ownership! As in Isaiah 1:18-20 we are called to abide in God and as we abide in Him He becomes our God and we become His people... He chose Israel (Jacob) while not yet in his Mother's womb... and through him He chose Israel as His people... God offered to be their God as long as they lived in adherance to Him obeying His mandates as their One and Only God! In Deuteronomy 31:6 we find a newly released nation of slaves given the Command by their God to possess the land which He had promised to their forefather, Abraham... He seeks to encourage them and to remove any semblance of fear and doubt so He tells them to: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6) This Command is not to establish Israel as a world despot that will conquer all kingdoms and subjugate them into serviture... it was a Command to take possession of a land that God Himself had previously allotted to the people of Israel, in Abraham. We know that Israel failed terribly on both accounts (taking possession of the land in the manner ordered by God, and being loyal to Yahweh, their forefathers' God who brought them out of the land of Egypt)... this is why the Lord chose a Remnant from within Israel to remain loyal and obedient to Him (Isaiah 10:20; Jeremiah 23:3)... this Remnant, together with Jesus' followers are the new people of Israel who though belonging to two different folds are made one in Jesus (John 10:16; Ephesians 2:11-22)... under this New Covenant Yahweh still claims Israel as His people and reminds Israel that He is our God and that we are His people (Hosea 1:10)... There is no new law but a continuation of God's original offer: abide in me and I will be your God and you will be my people: Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." You are speaking of two economies... under the Old Covenant (Mosaic Laws) the people of Israel were given the Ten Commandments and several hundreds of statutes which they were to follow... many of these dealt with functions that were put away during the New Covenant (sacrificial offerings, tithing for the Temple and prists maintenance, tithing and offerings distributed to the Levi Tribe...); once the New Covenant direct and indirect changes took place... Considering the many laws present in the Mosaic Laws, we can almost understand why the people of Israel circumvented them as much and as often as they could: it seems that very few people had authoritative knowledge of all the regulations... Jesus simplified the demands of the Law: Love the Lord your God above all and your neighbor as your friend!--He said that this sums up the Law and the prophets (Matthew 22:37-40); the New Covenant depends upon God's grace and our humble obedience while the Old Covenant depended upon Israel following the letter of the Mosaic Law... The best analogy that I can offer is elementary math vs. quantum mechanics--while the basic principles of mathematical enumeration applies the values of the latter supersede the first: instead of paying and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, we love others as we would have them love us and we love and pray even for those who seek to harm us--both our restitution and justice are found in the Lord not in our immediate corporal beings!
