1601 | 3 things that are a must for ministers | Titus 1:7 | CDBJ | 22149
There are many who say that they are called of God to be a minister but don't you think that number one should be that they should be born again of the Spirit? That would knock out more then half of them right off the bat!!!
1602 | Rejoice in Suffering! | 1 Pet 1:6 | CDBJ | 22009
This is a great post Tim! I would like to add to it if I may. Some times we suffer without the understanding of why. It seems so out of place when we see such disasters taking place with in our lives. The loss of loved ones as well as other tragic events. We have to stop and realize that God's object with us is conformation. Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. One of our big problems is that we can't see the big picture as God does. His ways are above our ways. Romans 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! Now knowing that He has only the best for us, and that is to make us like His son Jesus, all that we suffer is within the scope of God's plan. There are no surprises to God. When something bad happens to us God doesn't say WOW, I didn't know that was going to happen! We just have to trust Him and all that He does for us, even though not all things are good. They are still within the scope of God's design and He culminates even the bad thing, to work together for the overall good. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. The word good is from the Greek (AGATHOS) and it means good of an intrinsic value. It is the same as gold. All the shapes that gold can be formed into are not good but it still worth X amount of dollars per ounce when melted down. The suffering that we go through in life is not good from our viewpoint, but being able to understand it is the key. This is found in the first part of Rom. 8:28 and (we Know) (OIDAMEN) this is in the indicative mood, perfect tense, active voice, 1st person plu. Which says in effect, the indicative mood, is the mood of reality or certainty. The perfect tense, is completed action with finished results in the present time. Active voice, means that the subjects produces the action. I.e. We have to know with out a shadow of doubt that God is still controlling things in our lives and have complete trust in the results even though it doesn't look good to us. It must be settled in our minds! This trust must be the same as the trust that we place in the Lord for our salvation. For we walk by faith not by sight and the path isn't always smooth; there are rocks and ditches that cause problems. Paul tells us that we are to be thankful for all things. 1 Thes. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I hope that I haven't confused anyone with this. CDBJ |

Yes, I am in full agreement with that. We never know what God might use to start a person thinking in the right direction. Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. |

1604 | Was Jesus a captive? | 1 Pet 3:19 | CDBJ | 21977
Jesus did have a spirit; He commended it to the Father. The word commended is a verb indicative, present, middle 1st person singular of the word paratathemai. The indicative mood is the mood of reality or certainty; the present tense is generally continues action at present time, in the middle voice the subject Jesus participates in the result of the action. He was committing the guarding of His spirit to the father for safekeeping. When God told Adam that he was going to die the very day that he would eat of forbidden fruit, what died? He was body, soul and spirit from the beginning. What did Jesus mean when He said that a man must be born again? John 3:5-9 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? It appears that I got along for twenty seven years with out a my spirit being connected to God; But I had no communication in any of my earlier years. |

I think that there is something that is being missed when one considers the word death in the Bible. The Greek language of the New Testament uses the word (THANATOS) and a good explanation for thanatos, would be separation. Psychical thanatos meant that your soul separated form your body. Spiritual death meant that you are separated from God. It doesn't mean that there is no more existence, as is commonly the case in the understanding of the English language. Quite the contrary is true; everyone is going to live forever in one place or the other and be conscious that they are there. Luke 16:19-31 The individual that Jesus was speaking of was in all probability a real person, as Christ never used a proper noun in His parables. It is interesting to note the senses that were functioning in this individual, whose body was gone. The only one not mentioned was the sense of smell. Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. I don't know if this helps but it will give something to think about. CDBJ |

Apology accepted; I have done the same thing myself. I know how easy it is sometimes for me to let my old sin nature take over. When the Bible talks about the tongue, James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. There are times when I have everything but the fangs. I have had to use I John 1:9 for this problem several times. I forgive you; just tell the Lord then get up and as Paul said forgetting those thing that are behind I press on. In love, CDBJ |

1607 | Wrong to Wear a Cross Necklace? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21677
My best friend's son whom I have been witnessing to, and seems to be somewhat receptive, rode a motorcycle over to our local gun club the other day. First you must realize that his new wife, of one year, is a Christian. She has contacted me about explaining the way of salvation to her husband. I didn't even know that she was a believer until she called my wife one morning. The way that I found out was that I had given her husband a paper that I had written on the subject of salvation; he read it and laid it down where she found it and called our house the next day all excited about what I had given her husband. Well to make a long story short, I thought that my friend's son was starting to understand what it meant to completely trust in Jesus and commit his life to Christ keeping, until he rode in to the club on his motorcycle with a big Saint somebody metal on his jacket. When I ask him what it was for, acting as though I didn't know, he said that it was to keep him safe while riding his bike. To me it was like a miniature of what Paul must have experienced, Galatians 4:11 I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. (NASB) I don't know if you have ever heard the story about the time when a drunk staggered up to D.L. Moody and said, hay, I'm one of your converts!! Moody looked at him and said, yes you can surely tell that you are one of mine all right; you sure don't look like one of the Lord's! My primary goal, whenever I meet someone, is to determine if they are a born again Christian. If they are, it starts a time of fellowship, if they aren't; my main object is to find the opportunity and a good time to explain the way of salvation to them without being obnoxious. One must be very cautious that they don't muddy up the water. I have meet a lot of believers that love the Lord and they are very bold, to the point that they are a turn off. Jesus always asks a lot of questions and He never forced Himself on anyone. Sometimes I brake out in a cold sweet when witnessing to someone for fear that I will mess up. The last thing I want to do is to turn someone off about the Lord! I try to be ready to answer everyone who asks me for a reason for the hope that I have in Christ. Well Hank, (now you know the rest of the story.) CDBJ |

1608 | Who are the Gog and Magog? | Rev 20:8 | CDBJ | 21457
EdB; I liked your answer, that is a classic and one that I will have to remember. A lot of believers don't realize that God has promised us eternal life and it starts the moment that we believe in Jesus Christ and trust Him for our salvation. God didn't promise us a bed of roses down here but He does promise that we wouldn't be alone in out struggle through psychical life. Fox's Book of Martyrs sure makes this clear, and I think the worst is yet to come. There are actually more martyrs in this day and age then were in the days mentioned in the Book of Martyrs, according to statistics. Paul explains something to us in 2 Thes. 1:4-10 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. |

1609 | Who are the Gog and Magog? | Rev 20:8 | CDBJ | 21374
EdB greetings; It just hit me, that you said lookup. I was just thinking, how many times have believers heard this and even used it, I myself being one. Yet I wonder how many actually realize what will transpire before we are actually told to look up, as in Luke 21:28? I think that we often use this as Christian jargon, at least I have, but the context of this saying is very tragic to say the least. If all would read from Luke 21:5-36, as I did, and consider the timing of this often quoted verse it would be an eye opener. Thanks for the comment, it has started me thinking. CDBJ

Hello Casiv, This is a round about way to reach you but we seem to have lost contact the other day when you ask me what I was studying. I replied that I am very interested in eschatology and that I like to dig into the original languages. I lost the thread and couldn't get back. I think something must have messed up on my e-mail response or something. My question to you, that I wanted to ask is, what is your opinion on the thousand year millennium, that is mentioned in Revelation chapter 20, seeing that you hold a different idea about the binding of Satan then I do? I am interested in your comments. I might be out of line asking this on this thread but I don't know how else to make connections. There are times when I am all thumbs on this computer stuff, so please excuse me this one time gang. CDBJ
1611 | Who is Lucifer/ why was heson of morning | Isaiah | CDBJ | 21029
Casiv, I think that there are many antichrists in the world just as the epistle of John indicate. But the main character of (the), as a definite article, antichrist hasn't manifested himself yet. I believe his main object it to establish a one World government over which he will be the ruler. At some point during his escalation to World dominance, Satan will empower him and he will demand the worship of the world. I think that the antichrist is referred to as the first beast in Revelation. He will have a right hand man that is mentioned in Scripture as the false prophet or another beast. I think that this second beast will be some kind of a religious leader because it says that he has horns as a (lamb), but he speaks like the dragon. I.e. A great deceiver that will lead many over to antichrist way of thinking. My favorite Biblical subject is eschatology. I like to dig into word studies in the original languages of the Bible. My favorite net sight for online information on future things is, (www.signministries.org). They tie it all together like no other I have found, and if one is really mixed up, they have an 800 number to answer tough questions. At present they are compiling a commentary on the book of Revelation. It seems like the older I get, in the Lord and studying in His word, the more it causes the knowledge that I have gained, to shrink by comparison. It scares me to think where I was 35 years ago and that new believers are starting at zero. I hope the forum helps them to grow with an open Bible and that they prove all things by searching through it for truth. Psalm 119:160 (AMS) The sum of Your word is truth, EIRENE, CDBJ |

1613 | Who is Lucifer/ why was heson of morning | Isaiah | CDBJ | 20951
Where does it say that Satan him self, is the antichrist, since we are splitting hairs? I was always under the impression that the antichrist was a man and Satan empowered him! I might be dense or something but I Peter 5:8 tells me that the devil is walking about. Now I suppose that you are going to tell me that all this walking about is taking place while in prision and that he is pacing back and forth in his cell while incarcerated. Where is this maximum-security prison in heaven or earth? You made mention in your post that (we believe), I wasn't under the opinion that believing anything in the Bible was a collective situation! Who does the, (we), represent, since you mentioned it? This is a strange doctrine to me, and I would imagine to the rest of the forum, so please don't be offended if I seem a little curt.

1615 | Who were the witnesses? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 20908
Yes your right, Michael disputed over the body of Moses, which means that Moses soul wasn't in it any longer. Death had seperated his soul from his body,(THANATOS)and Satan wanted it for some evil action. Why, we are not told, but Moses wasn't in it any longer to defend it as he had been in the past.

1617 | Who is Lucifer/ why was heson of morning | Isaiah | CDBJ | 20848
I think that the time spoken of in Rev.12 is the point in time that Christ describes in Matt.24:15, which is the mid point of Jacob's trouble. Paul calls it out in II Thess. 2:3,4. Jews and Christians alike will suffer at this time. If Satan can't get at the Jews, he will come after the believers in Jesus. Rev. 12:13-17 And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male (child.) But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she *was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth. So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. I would like to emphasize that this (IS NOT) the wrath of God but Satan, who was cast down to the Earth. These will be the days of his vengeance against God and all that He stands for. Satan will demand the worship of the inhabitants of the Earth and the (true) believers, the wheat, won't give in. It will be the time just before the harvest. In my opinion, this is how God will separate the wheat from the tares. The pressure will be immense to say the least, so great that, if it were possible, even the elect could be deceived. But with the Lord's help and Bible doctrine we will overcome because we are not in darkness, we are expecting it! Paul said that remember that when I was with you, I told you these things. I hope that I haven't messed up everyone's way of thinking, but that's how I see it. |

1618 | Who is Lucifer/ why was heson of morning | Isaiah | CDBJ | 20835
I love all the believers in Christ and I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but I honestly don't know where some of our brothers and sisters come up with these things. I talked to a person one time and they actually believed that Satan had horns with a red suit and carried a trident around. That is the picture that he would like to paint so that believers don't recognize him for what he really is, one of the most beautiful creature that God has ever created, not to mention one of the smartest. He knows that his days are numbered and when he is cast of Heaven that will trigger a response from him that will cause the greatest persecution that has ever taken place on the Earth for believers. It will make the holocaust that the Jews went through, look like a Sunday school picnic, if you'll pardon the expression. The book of I Peter 4:12-19 tells us not to be surprised when it happens. These will be the days of great deception for believers and there are numerous warnings telling us so; but even with all the warnings believers will be caught off guard!
1619 | Who is Lucifer/ why was heson of morning | Isaiah | CDBJ | 20799
The book of I Peter was written in approximately AD 63: if what you said is true, why did Peter bother to right chapter 5:8,9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. I John 4:4 speaks of (he), a ref. to satan being in the World. (Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.) Now since the devil isn't omnipresent, i.e. he can't be in more then one place at a time, he must be going back and forth from Earth to Heaven, otherwise Paul wouldn't have penned Ephesians 6:10-17, It wouldn't be necessary if our adversary were incarcerated. The fact that the devil is thrown out of Heaven, Rev. 12:7 doesn't mean that he was imprisoned there. What kind of a war would that be? The devil doesn't have omniscience like God so he has to come to Earth to see what the believers are doing in order to accuse them before God, Rev. 12:10. The fact that he is cast down only mean that he is no longer permitted to come to Heaven any longer to wage war with the brethren. He knows that when this happens that his last days of deception are coming to a halt; The only place that he can torment believers after the war in Heaven, will be on the Earth, and he knows that there are only three and one half years left to do his evil work. As a result he comes down to Earth having great wrath for the elect of God. Jesus mentioned this in Matt. 24:21-22; Paul tells of the same thing in II Thess. 2:3-6 There is no indication that the devil is restricted in any way at this time as far as confinement or being locked up. |
