141 | What mother was commended by Paul? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 203068
Dear DLD, I have to agree with Brother Doc on his observation. You have asked 29 questions since joining and all seemed to be homework assignment questions. Now, I wonder if you are upto the age requirement of the forum - i.e. 18 and up. Could you please confirm your age eligibility with us? Shalom Azure |

Dear frii, In addition to brothers Doc and Lionheart's fine comments, may I suggest you the book "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. Don't forget to pray. Ask God to light up your heart and mind. Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matt 7:8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Shalom Azure |

146 | My apologies if I offended any of you | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 203530
Dear cpbradt, Please accept my sincere apology for my wrong judgment on you. It is me (not Quvmoth) who are in doubt of your legitimate age on the forum. Brother Hank has explained why we have a certain concern on helping students to do their homework assignment. So, thank you very much for your explanation about your situation. Please do understand that we don't mean to be ungracious to the need of people. Please stay around and we might try our best to help. May God bless you abundantly in your learning of His holy Word. Shalom Azure |

147 | A prophet | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 203550
Dear F.o.o.t, Thank you for your input. By the end of 2007, I had the privilege to attend a short (very short indeed, just an hour or so) seminar of Dr. J.R. Lundbom's study on "Jeremiah's New Covenant for the Church and the World". In his handout note he wrote "A century earlier, Isaiah had expanded the Davidic covenant to include Jerusalem adn the Temple, preaching that Zion was inviolable (Isa 31:4-5, 37:33-35), but now Jeremiah considers this a false theology upon which people are resting vain hopes. Von Rad therefore says the prophetic message is not timeless truth, but a 'particular word relevant to a particular hour in history.'" Therefore, we may see that the contemporary prophets of Jeremiah's were talking about peace, peace, peace while in fact the invasion by Babylon was close at hand as prophesied by Jeremiah in contrast to their beliefs. I believe the latter is more appropriate to explain our understanding of certain prophetic messages. "Von Rad therefore says the prophetic message is not timeless truth, but a 'particular word relevant to a particular hour in history'" Shalom Azure |

150 | Why did Jesus not want the evil spirits | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 204975
Dear SBG, Welcome to the forum. In addition Tamara's reply (204969) and an old post (11462)of our brother Hank's, I would like to add my 2 cents here: As the demons were well aware of in Matt 8:29, they had nothing to do with each other except that when the time comes, Jesus punish them to their fate. So, what is the point for getting testimony and witnesses from the cursed ones - demons? Instead, who are to witness Christ? Read Matthew 3:17, John 10:24-26, John 8:17-18, John 15:26-27. My conclusion is that our witness must be acceptable to Christ. That's why we should be mindful to false teachers. Shalom Azure |

151 | If a person hurts you and ask forgivenes | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 205244
Dear Katie, Matthew 6:14-15 we are told to forgive without condition. Yes, it is hard, really really hard. That's why it is in the Lord's prayer that we have to prayerfully ask God to help us. However, please be mindful that you won't fall into the temptation of being self righteous with the act of forgiving. Shouldn't it be thankful to God that she found you helpful in providing her Sunday school teacher books despite her motive could be using you? Read through Roman 12:9-21 and meditate. Not because we are afraid of going to hell to follow the command, but the Holy Spirit works in us that we are obedient to His Word; thus, we may grow and bear fruit for His glory. I have witnessed some very very close relatives of mine hurting each other because of misunderstanding and not forgiving or even false forgiving thus rooted with bitterness. It is indeed extremely heartbreaking to me. Please, when there are still chances for reconciliation, do it, for we are to be peacemaker. Shalom Azure |

156 | Jesus and the ruling Powers | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 209148
Dear ladams, Let me see if I can help a bit. I think in order to understand about the nature of the Kingdom of God, we should study who belong to it by studying Jesus's teachings. Those who (are): - poor in the spirit (Mat 5:3) - persecuted for the sake of righteousness (Mat 5:10) - teach and keep the commandments (Mat 5:19) - do the will of God (Mat 7:21) - humble themselves as children (Mat 18:4) - fruitful believers (Mat 21:43) - prudent believers (Mat 25:1-13) - faithful believers (Mat 25:14-30) - loving believers (Mat 25:31-46) Now, I leave the rest for your own search in concern with what Jesus said about the scribes and Pharisees whom to be compared with the above. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

160 | Church membership...a requirement? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 209392
Dear Beingstill, I agree with Brother Tim that you should talk to your pastor how you feel about his comment for clarification. Furthermore, I like what C.S. Lewis said in his Mere Christianity, which I think pretty relevant to your question and concern about church membership. "It is more like a hall out of which doors open into several rooms. If I can bring anyone into that hall I shall have done what I atempted. But it is in the rooms, not in the hall, that there are fires and chairs and meals. The hall is a place to wait in, a place from which to try the various doors, not a place to live in. For that purpose the worst of the rooms (whichever that may be) is, I think, preferable. It is true that some people may find they have to wait in the hall for a considerable time, while others feel certain almost at once which door they must knock at. I do not know why there is this difference, but I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait. When you do get into your room you will find that the long wait has done you some kind of good which you would not have had otherwise. But you must regard it as waiting, not as camping. You must keep on praying for light: and, of course, even in the hall, you must begin trying to obey the rules which are common to the whole house. And above all you must be asking which door is the true one; not which pleases you best by its paint and panelling. In plain language, the question should never be : 'Do I like that kind of service?' but 'Are these doctrines true: Is holiness here? Does my conscience move me towards this? Is my reluctance to knock at this door due to my pride, or my mere taste, or my personal dislike of this particular door-keeper?'" --- C.S. Lewis I would also recommend you the below link for your further study concerning church membership issues. http://marks.9marks.org/Mark6/LessonC/Slide1of2 Shalom Azure |
