142 | Function of the Church? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202081
Ephesians 4:11-12 (Amplified) And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church), In this passage who are to be the ministers? By that I mean, should the church be a Seminary? How do you understand 'equipping'? It is for what purpose/ministry? |

143 | Are they pastor/teachers? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202092
Hi Steve, So, the next question would be 'why' or 'how' did the church change from educators to entertainers? It is not a new situation... Heb 5:12-13 KJVR (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (13) For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Please speak to the lack of growth with regards to pastor/teachers. |

144 | How important is growth? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202096
Hi Brad, I was just trying to distinguish or contrast when using 'educator' and 'entertainer.' It is like we have in the school system where some careless teachers (burned out teachers that do not care) are seen as 'baby sitters' rather than instructors. A teacher needs zeal and purpose; an entertainer just needs to amuse. So, Heb 5:12-13 KJVR (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers... I agree we need to look at the members. We should also look at the proportion of time spent on the Word 'in' church vrs other interests. What is their example? Is the service filled with expository preaching and study? Do you think that maybe there is a relationship between the kind of church/preacher one choses and how much daily study is done? Thank you for your reply |

145 | alcohol scripturally wrong? | Eph 5:18 | Thomas8 | 203680
Hi Doc, Hank and lionheart, I imagine most every drinker has hit bottom and prayed for deliverance. I'm sure that they are sincere when they pray. Why are some redeemed and others not? I believe that sobriety is impossible for many of these people without divine intervention. AA and Rehab fail the people I'm talking about. So ... Why does God answer some prayers, "yes," and not all of them. What is the difference? This question applies to any drug addition or habitual sin. |

146 | Does consciousness vanish at death? | Phil 1:23 | Thomas8 | 205040
Here are two examples on the subject that I do not find discussed when addressing the issue. 1) I have vivid dreams when I sleep. 2) During a minor surgery I was alive and TOTALLY unconscience (unaware) of anything. Are these illustrations ever used to support anything? I have not seen them. |

147 | Does consciousness vanish at death? | Phil 1:23 | Thomas8 | 205048
Hi Doc, I was not forming/supporting a doctrine. It has to do with methodology. I was showing that some opinions are based on very pliable concepts. A sleeper can dream and a living soul can be unconscious/coma or flat line temporarily. 7 years old ... and still going strong! I'm so impressed. I may learn to like this Internet stuff. :-) |

148 | Who will claim the reward? | Col 1:1 | Thomas8 | 222029
It is the verses that have value. Put them all on the table. "Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment." (1 Corinthians 14:29 NASB) |
||||||
149 | Who will claim the reward? | Col 1:1 | Thomas8 | 222030
These verses most certainly should be on the table.
150 | Who will claim the reward? | Col 1:1 | Thomas8 | 222298
Hi, I realize that. To me, these notes are a work in progress, a never ending exposition of views on a verse.
151 | who are the chosen,elect, and faithfull? | Col 1:2 | Thomas8 | 222031
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. (Revelation 17:14 KJV) I'm thinking that called, chosen and faithful are the same people...the saints ... For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. (1 Thessalonians 4:14 KJV) |

152 | Should the pastor be honored as a king. | 1 Thess 2:6 | Thomas8 | 241258
1Th 2:3 For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; 1Th 2:4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts. 1Th 2:5 For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed--God is witness-- 1Th 2:6 nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority. 1Th 2:7 But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing *mother* tenderly cares for her own children. 1Th 2:8 Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us. 1Th 2:9 For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. 1Th 2:10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; 1Th 2:11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a *father* would his own children, Paul treated people like family, not customers. Did he get a salary? Would he retire? No stages but he was on the streets daily. |

155 | Omitted in Colossians | Philem 1:1 | Thomas8 | 202044
Hi Brad, I see your point about Archippus (Col 4:17) and we find Onesimus is mentioned in Col. 4:9. Why would Philemon and Apphia be omitted? |
||||||
156 | Archippus? | Philem 1:2 | Thomas8 | 201989
Do you think this is the same Archippus as in Col. 4:17

Acts 2:41 3000 and Acts 4:4 5000. Where did these 8000 assemble? I think there were a lot of homes - Acts 2:46. |

160 | "In" | Heb 1:2 | Thomas8 | 104929
Does "in His Son" related to: (2 Corinthians 5:19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. |
