141 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6120
Hi JVH, It is good to hear from you, truly. I appreciate your quote of the MacArthur Study Bible and his capitalization of Angel. I've noticed now that NASB still has verse 28 in lower case with NKJ having Angel also. I haven't gone through Daniel in a long while and I haven't always capitalized angel; it has been and probably will be a difficult decision in the future. But I have kept your words in mind and have made my copy back to "and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods." (I'd even encourage every Tom, Richard, and Harry to consider penciling that in their NKJ). In exchange I'd like you to consider the NKJ capitalization of Daniel 3:29, "inasmuch as there is no other God who is able to deliver in this way." This should be in contrast to Daniel 3:15 "and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?" It is the answer for NKJ "who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?" Over and over we read in scripture we read "He is able" or the "One who is able". Amen. If I can throw in a joke. I am reminded of the fishermen telling stories, with one of them ending the time saying, "I'll put the light out of the lantern I snagged if you'll take twenty inches off the fish you caught." But I think we had a good exchange here.(If accepted.) In passing, concerning Daniel, I would capitalize Spirit of the holy God in Daniel 4:9 and wherever it appears. (The NKJ has "Spirit of the Holy God.") I welcome your comments. Thanks. Later, Ray |

142 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6368
Hi EdB, After talking with you and others I'm going to go with the appearance of the fourth figure in the furnace as being like a son of the gods. Also, in Daniel 3:28 I'm going to leave the angel uncapitalized; thus equating the two. If you want, I'd welcome discussion on Heb 8:26. Are we allowed to "scam" here?

Nothing much to talk about there... How about Hebrews 7:26?
144 | Was Abraham a Muslim? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 9040
Hi Questioner, I am not a studier of world religions and am not the one to answer your question here. I have not the foggiest idea of what PBUH means after Abraham, and I can only surmise that the Quran is the Koran. If I need to know this information please advise. The only reason that I am writing, is that I personally am a capitalizer of Deity in the Bible. I believe that it gives glory to God and points out as well our humanity in contrast. I would only like to point out that the Bible speaks of one Prophet, Priest, and King and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. When you do find out the "prophet Abraham's" beliefs make sure that you know that he was only a man; although a very important man in biblical history. Again, the scriptures tell us Matthew 23, that we have only one Teacher, Father, and Leader, and we are all brothers. And we have to watch what we do and say, Mt 23:3. I am not a believer in polytheism either. |

145 | Choosing a Bible translation | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 10703
Hi Hank, Whatever translation one chooses, it should be purchased to be read. It should be age-appropriate; perhaps with pictures and paraphrased for kids, giant print for the older person. I hate to see gift Bibles with a small print for I just know that they will not be read.
146 | Choosing a Bible translation | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 10778
Hi Hank, I appreciate your joke about the read Bible. I'd also like to say that I got the joke about the fire-fighting kings who came from a far. That was a good one, too. I tried to make a post that didn't include capitalization, but Nolan had to change that.:-) I think the most significant thing for understanding the scriptures would be to choose a translation that capitalizes Deity. |

149 | Adam and Christ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 11352
Hi prayon, This is an important question to answer and I hope you get many responses. I don't know if any of the other "types" get the press that Adam gets as in Romans 5:14. Here it is made abundantly clear that he is "a type of Him who was to come." The passage goes on to show the difference between the one man (Adam) and the one Man, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17 says that "the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." I don't believe that the original Adam was the son of God. Luke 3:38 is the only place where that was said of Adam. I believe that Luke 3:38 is talking about the Son of God, the second Adam. That is the One who was supposedly the son of Joseph, Luke 3:23. I see a correlation between the Romans 5 passage and I Corinthians 15:22. Romans 5:6, "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ* died for the ungodly." 1 Cor 15:22, "For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ* all shall be made alive." In order to see that correlation you would have to know that difference between the man Adam and the Man by whom came the resurrection of the dead. See 1Cor 15:21 NKJ One would have to go to the NKJ also for the final reference scripture. 1Corinthians 15:44-49."It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man." 1Corinthians 15:56, "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." |

Hi, TOFT, Sorry about getting your name wrong in our introductions. I do hope to get to know you better. I believe that your second question is important; perhaps you can add a note at that site about "knowing" that one is saved.
151 | Question for you Both? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 13585
Hi Bro. Tom, I would like to respond to some of the things that I hear and see you say, from the perspective of the "Capitalist" who is concerned with capitalization. The first thing that I see you say is that "I believe that Jesus was the son of God." Even the King James which I believe you use has Hebrews 4:14 speaking of Jesus the Son of God. This is the confession that we want to hold fast to as Christians. But using the NKJ and NASB versions that capitalize Deity, we can learn more of what Hebrews is saying. Hebrews 4:15, NKJ, "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but (One who, NASB)was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." By the time of the writing of Hebrews Jesus was known as the Son and His deity was believed in, and He was in a sense "perfected" in the same sense that capitalization shows His deity. Remember that Jesus is the only-begotten Son. He was begotten not made. Hebrews 1:5 says in part, "THOU ART MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN THEE" And again, "I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME". The NKJ reads "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You" And again: "I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son." Please note the capitalization here of the Father and the Son. We as men are fathers and sons and I will never become a Son. Even as a believer I am an adopted son of God and I won't ever be perfect. I am just a man and I will never be the Man that Jesus was. Bro. Tom, you write that "Jesus had his own spirit." I believe that Jesus had His own spirit, but He gave it up on the cross." I have other thoughts to give you so I'll write them in your other post. Later, Ray |

152 | Question for you Both? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 13997
Hi Bro. Tom, We are just getting to know each other so I have to tell you that my main interest is the Deity of Christ and getting to know the only true God. It is because of my interest in capitalization of the pronouns of Deity that I wondered about your belief in the son of God rather than the Son of God. I realize your preference for the King James and know that "it hath taught you" as 1John 2:27 says, but I would urge you to consider the NKJ and even more the NASB also so that you can receive more of His anointing which is "the same anointing." Even the anointing which "teaches you about all things, and is true, and is not a lie." I agree that we need repentance and the desire to lead holy lives for Him. Later, Ray |

153 | TRINITY | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 14553
Hi GeneralWAS, My questions after reading the article would be, "Did God breath spirit into man?" or "Was the breath of Life breathed into his nostrils? The way that I composed those questions show the way that both can be true. In other words, if one speaks of the "breath of life" one would think of oxygen and air to breath and live. If one speaks of the "breath of Life" one can then speak of the "spirit of God." |

156 | is the NIV a good bible to read? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 15993
Hi khmeraver, NIV is not one of my favorites. I would urge you to choose a copy that capitalizes Deity like the NASB or NKJ. These will enable one to gain the correct view of God and will help one to know Him better.

159 | is the NIV a good bible to read? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 16021
Hi Tim, I'm sorry that the flap cover of the book, represented by the web site, did not lead you to looking at the book. This book is not about codes, numerology, or hidden meanings. It is about comparison of Scriptures, groupings of Scriptures, subjects are tied together; all through the use of the letters of the languages themselves. Each letter has a numerical value (according to Webster's dictionary) and the totals of words and phrases have been shown to have significance. I believe that if man can run computers on what, two numbers, that our great God, whose name is Word, can accomplish and has accomplished greater things than we can imagine. I recommend the book highly. |

A P.S. from Ray, I'm talking of the book "Theomatics" and not the NIV of this thread as far as my recommendation goes. Theomatics uses the NASB.
