141 | God's of Egypt relate to plagues? | Exodus | glory777 | 11575
prayon- I think it is just like God to totally show Himself supreme over any of their so-called gods by showing He had power over the lesser of their gods all the way to the one they considered the most powerful. He is a God of order and will leave no doubt about who He is. Debbie |

144 | Eggs for cash: Help! | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 11561
Peches- When writing in the forum, please don't use all caps. It signifies shouting and hurts my eyes. I agree with the issue of selling eggs, but it goes along with the whole societal disregard for life. Where else can you find a nation that will fine a person a great deal of money for destroying an eagle's egg, and yet say it is OK to destroy an unborn baby? We need the Lord to heal our land. I recently read a quotation from Ruth Graham that stated something like "If God doesn't do something about the United States soon, He is going to have to ask pardon from Sodom and Gommorah". We need to pray long and hard for our country. Debbie |

145 | What is a generatonal curse? | Gal 1:9 | glory777 | 11553
One of the main things that is going to prevent generational trends, "curses" if you will, is studying and memorizing scripture. James 4:7 says to "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Do not enter in where temptation is close. It is easy for the enemy to get a little barb in, and if you allow that "barb" to stay there, it can become a foothold and pretty soon a stronghold. One thing though. If you have overcome once, don't be self assured about it that it will never be a problem again. We must stay aware. Do not allow the "hook" to be placed again. It is too easy for a person with a fondness for alcohol who feels they have overcome and been freed to "show up" the enemy by brazenly going where the alcohol is. This pride can destroy the work that was previously done and allow a hook to be set even stronger. This can apply to any sin. But stand strong. Pray hard. Trust God. Debbie |

146 | Created for heaven or hell? | John 3:16 | glory777 | 11308
Proorizo- This is one of those questions that is irrelevent. Our job is not to pick straws. We are to take the gospel to the world, God knows who will receive it and who won't. We don't know, so it is not up to us to worry about it. There are other issues that can divide a fellowship but none that can destroy the fact that salvation is through Jesus Christ, unless one has a contentious purpose in mind. I disagree with some of my brothers and sisters in my own denomination over a few things, and also in other denominations, but the main thing, is that the blood of Jesus unites us as brothers and sisters. It is alright to disagree, and then let it go. If both viewpoints have been aired, let it go. Debbie |

152 | Should (Christian) Jews Live Like Jews? | Acts 21:21 | glory777 | 10951
I agree. If any of you have a friend that is, please ask if they could join the Forum. I have gone to some worship services where the presence of a Messianic Jew was very obvious by his dress and hair style (shawl etc.). Now there may have been others there who didn't appear "Jewish". I don't know but would like to find out. Debbie |

153 | When a prophet? | Nahum | glory777 | 10949
I wonder if Nineveh would have been so quick to fall again had Jonah stayed around the first time to give them proper teaching. It is my understanding that the reason Jonah didn't want to go in the first place is because Nineveh was a Gentile city and a good Jew had nothing to do with Gentiles (unclean). Did they even know anything about Moses and the law and God in general other than they sinned against Him? They were prophesied to by a man who didn't like them and wanted nothing to do with them. I think it is amazing they repented at all. Debbie |

154 | What kind of whale swallowed Jonah? | Jonah | glory777 | 10910
You know John Morris? I have heard of him and do go to his web site. It's given me a lot of answers to give to people who have had questions over the years. There's is the idea of taking God's Word as truth and seeing if science is true in relation to it, not the world's way, whish is just the opposite. Awesome site. Debbie |

Norrie- I had a hard time understanding the Trinity, too, and heard the water explanation. Another example would be area. Area consists of height, width and depth. Each individual measurements, yet all part of the same. Debbie |

156 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10610
Steve, I think I should just shut up because EdB puts it so much more succinctly than i can. I agree. i have seen the misuse of it, too. The only thing I don't know if I agree totally is the idea you should have some idea of what you are praying about. there have been a few (very few)times when I have felt the Holy Spirit telling me to pray and it is kind of an "OK, Here we go -don't have a clue but some situation must be needing prayer coverage." Now, I am talking about privately, while at work and not shouting it out at the top of my lungs. Ever had this happen, EdB?
157 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10608
1 Cor. 14:14 (NKJ) For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my undertanding is unfruitful. Paul goes on to state 15- What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit and I will also pray with the understanding. This again is in the contecxt of using prophesy and tongues in a church setting. If there was no benefit to speaking in tongues, as you seem to imply (produces and unfruitful mind) why would Paul thank God he speaks with tongues more than the readers? I think the only time that tongues was mentioned as being understood by everyone was the first time. Paul didn't state anyone had to know what was being said before hand, but to pray that someone would interpret. If you have to go around asking if anyone understands what you are saying so they can interpret it, it is not a spiritual gift, but a human gift. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying. Forgive me if I am. |

158 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10506
Bless you, Nolan and EdB! I have not used all the gifts, I don't feel a pull to use them, although I speak in tongues for myself and have the gift of exhortation. I just want to be open to whatever and wherever the Lord wants to use me. I think this is one subject that will never be agreed upon by all believers. One of my favorite teachers (I listen on the radio) is Chuck Swindoll. I may not agree with everything he says but I learn so much from him. He said on one program that his brother-in-law is Charismatic and that they do not agree, but love each other and respect each other. I think that just may have to be the situation. In 1 Cor. Paul speaks on how all members of the body are important to the function of the body. I don't believe he was just talking about the gifts of the Spirit, but about all the people in the church, and on a broader scale (and I may be stretching it here) the different denominations of the Christian Church. We all can work together, share together, and draw people to the Lord showing them the way to salvation and how to live in obedience to our Maker. Peace- Debbie |

159 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10467
1Cor. 14 - Tongues is more important to an individual by himself. It is edifying himself and also pure prayer to the Father. Tongues with interpretation or prophesy are the best in a group situation for then everyone understands. Just what it says. Debbie |

160 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10465
Speaking in tongues is speaking in a language you do not know or understand (1 Cor. 14:14). If this is for people who understand the language spoken, why the need of an interpreter? The person who has the gift of interpretation does not know the language being spoken, for then it would be a known language and it would not be a spiritual gift to interpret. Yes, when you believe you receive the Holy Spirit but when Jesus breathed on the Apostles, they were not "baptized" in the Holy Spirit. If it were so, why did Jesus promise to send the "Comforter" to them at a later date? Why did they need to be filled again? To endue them with power. Others also spoke in tongues at their spiritual birth, Paul is a good example. He spoke in tongues, had the gift of prophesy, and the others. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he was writing to a church. It gifts were used in the church (or I should say misused)and I don't think all of the Corinthians were in those two places stated. Because everyone was using their "eye" gift, Paul wrote the letter and gave specific guidlines. Things should be done decently and in order, and he states the order. I have a question. When did the gifts of the Holy Spirit stop being necessary? If they served a purpose then, wouldn't they serve an even greater purpose now? However, we still have people that say "They are drunk on new wine." We may never agree on this one. But that does not stop us from being a part of the family of God. Debbie PS I speak in an unknown tongue, buthe only lanuage I know is very little Spanish from Sesame street and a couple of phrases in Hungarian that I don't use since I became born again! |
