141 | Being of sound mind... | Heb 9:17 | Country Girl | 128050
I must admit, I'm a little confused. You were the one who linked this story of David and Mephibosheth to the original post about the whole process and leaving a will and having it properly executed. Can you enlighten me and explain why you linked these two ideas? It seems to me, my other questions are still valid and need answers. Your response, my friend? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

That's a very powerful question. It makes one pause and think. But I'm convinced that just as we saw with the quick downward spiral into sin after the Fall of mankind from the Garden of Eden which lead to the Destruction of the Flood, mankind doesn't have a very track record for even understanding God. We have a much more difficult time growing and appreciating His thinking, His priorities. We're inclined to criticize the disciples and think they were so spiritually immature before the coming of the Holy Spirit. But then, look at the history of this planet since that timeframe. We've had several world wars/conflicts and continue to do the same. We're devastating our atmosphere and the plant life on this planet which helps replenish the oxygen on earth. And I don't need to remind you what we're doing to our own country. No, we have nothing to brag about. But back to the subject at hand. I think that mankind had to experience "hitting the bottom" like an alcholic. We have to understand that life here on earth without God quite often results in Hell on earth. And that's just a small sample of what Hell will be like after Judgment Day. Now that we have all this documented history of all the grief and misery produced from man's own wickedness, we finally begin to get an idea of the consequences from which Christ is rescuing us. So before that point when Christ came into the world, we wouldn't have appreciated His Gift, His Sacrifice. Now at least, most of mankind can identify and understand most of the Gospel Message without a whole lot of coaxing. Whereas in the centuries before Jesus' coming, only a very few people (even within the Jewish nation) had an inkling of appreciation for anything of a Godly nature. Now because of all of what the Jewish people went through and the Perfect Sacrifice of God's Son, the whole world has a chance to go to Heaven if we as God's children will just go out and preach the Good News. Hope this is what you were looking for. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

143 | "All things belong to you" means what? | 1 Cor 3:21 | Country Girl | 128045
I read over my original post. I guess I must have been a blonde that day as it does look a little cryptic. Repeated for reference: 1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; 1 Cor 3:20 and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." 1 Cor 3:21 So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, 1 Cor 3:22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 1 Cor 3:23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God. I was trying to say that the Greeks were famous for being very modern and innovative thinkers (philosophers) in their world. They thought they were the cream of the crop when it comes to a modern progressive world of thinkers and running a modern government. I lived in Athens, Greece for four years and have visited Corinth several times. They were both great cities two thousand years ago, much like many of our modern cities in this country. When I read these words from Paul, my mind reverts to the 7 letters from John in Revelation. There most of the 7 congregations received rather strong chastisement to look at themselves and re-evaluate their ideas on real and genuine Godliness as they had NOT reached it. Yes, all of us here on earth, we all have every blessing from God as Paul tells the Corinthians but we must be on constant guard, lest we lose what we have, including our very own salvation. Our relationship with God is such a fragile thing from our perspective. God of course doesn't move or vary in this relationship. We as humans are the ones who are fickle and want to have our desires fulfilled. Instead, God would like to see us grow and mature, matching our priorities to His and thus grow less dependent on fulfilling those desires and instead see that He takes care of ALL our needs and will fulfill those wants and desires that are in accordance with His Will. Quite often our physical possessions get in the way between us and our God and prevent this kind of good, spiritual growth. We must realize our most precious possessions are those that are spiritual like our relationship with our spiritual forefathers and our incredibly precious relationship with God and His Son. I hope this is a little more clear. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I just read your very interesting poem but I can't see very much of a good moral to it. I can only suppose you'll enlighten us when you're ready. I'll be watching for both your wrap to this and the other responses you'll be getting. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

145 | I'm referring to Holy Communion. | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 127878
God's Girl, I noticed you posted the same statement "I'm referring to Holy Communion" three times, all within a couple of minutes of each other, so it looks like that was a mistake on your part. Most everyone has done it at least once. Look, those on the Forum with a long history of staying there know the secret to success is being completely honest with the Forum participants. Since we are talking about discussing the truths of God's Word with God's children, it wouldn't be productive to do anything else on this particular Forum. If you wish to participate under these and the other Forum parameters, I would encourage you to do so and respond completely to the reasonable queries that have been posted for you. I really can't help if you wish to pursue some other goal(s) or an undisclosed agenda. We all however do wish God's blessings to you, regardless of your decision. Country Girl |

148 | Because he betrayed Jesus? | NT general Archive 1 | Country Girl | 127769
I like to emphasize to people with whom I'm studying to convert or strengthen their new life as a christian is the tremendous contrast between Peter and Judas. All of us are human and are guarenteed of not coming anywhere close to meeting God's standard for Perfection, like His Son did. The important thing for us to remember, both these men and all the other disciples failed Jesus miserably, just like we all do. The main difference between the two is: Peter recognized his faults, "brushed himself off" and got back up on that journey with his Lord whereas poor Judas just couldn't handle what he'd done in spite of his Lord's willingness to forgive him. Yes, good question. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

So why didn't God send His Son thousands of years earlier and saved Himself all the grief and heartache, putting up with the Jewish nation and their disobedience and eventually destroying their nationhood? I've got an opinion but I'd be interested in seeing your's first. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

150 | law of love and homosexuality? | Lev 18:22 | Country Girl | 127733
Sounds solid and Biblical to me. Just my thinking but homosexuality, its practice or political endorsement is no more hated by God than murder, adultery, lying or any of the other sins listed in our Bibles. The single concept we as humans must understand is that God sees all this as rebellion against His Will or His Guidance. I can't be certain in this but it does seem that homosexuality and adultery both have their own special "reaping what they sow" in the diseases that are spread and wreck havoc with this kind of activity. So in effect, we do see that God really does have our best interest at His Heart. I believe it's generally accepted throughout most of the developed world that even if you don't want to become a christian BUT you do follow God's Guidance in our Bibles (just good moral business decisions), then chances are very high in your favor that you'll be very successful in your business. But for maximum benefit, I do belieive God blesses christians far more so as cited in Rom 8:28. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

151 | The Devolution of Man | Rom 1:23 | Country Girl | 127732
I'm moved to remember Pr 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Pr 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Seems particularly powerful that God repeats Himself with this advice. Do we learn? 1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1 Cor 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness" Humanism, what an awful stage of thinking for our planet to develop in face of all the history we have at our fingertips. Knowing all of what we know about the rise and fall of all the great empires/nations of the past and we still insist on following their footsteps to our own destruction. Can we turn it around and reverse this path? I do sincerely hope so. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

152 | Loving the Reproofs of the Word | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 127729
At least we'll be in good company. Some of David's best Psalms were written after his humbling resulting from his love affair with Bathsheba. Among my favorites: Psalms 51 and 119. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

153 | Would you consider Hebrews 12:14? | John 10:34 | Country Girl | 127728
If I may interject, it seems obvious Who is the primary active Agent in verse 9 as quoted below. The same Person is primary in verses 10 and 11. Heb 12:9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? Heb 12:10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. Heb 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. So what are we to conclude from this discussion? Everyone knows we humans certainly aren't Gods or gods either one. So apparently Jesus once again was speaking to His "testers," his biggest political enemies while here on earth, the Scribes and Pharisees. So many of the discussions and statements from Jesus to these people were often filled with difficult concepts and quotes from the OT. It's obvious Jesus' main priority was to humble their thinking and their attitude to Himself and His Father. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

154 | Worship/Service? original context Greek | Rom 12:1 | Country Girl | 127727
So, wouldn't you say that James has some good words to add to this concept of service or ministering to others in the body, performing acts of kindness in the name of our Lord. Of course we should be willing to do these acts not for the attention of men but for the sake of our God because we owe Him our very lives. James teaches us IF we have this kind of true faith, we'll be compelled to act like this. Thus we really can't expect to be pleasing to our God unless we are do our best to perform these little acts of kindness in response to our faith. This is NOT to say that we can hope to EARN our way to heaven as we're tempted to do. We must fight against that kind of thinking and keep ourselves completely humble and submissive, just a slave bought and paid for with Jesus' dear blood. What do you think? Blessings to you. 155 | Being of sound mind... | Heb 9:17 | Country Girl | 127726
I know Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan and that David took care of Mephibosheth, even as he was a cripple because of his feet. I see some parallels here but it's a little difficult to take this comparison much further. For example where's the qualifications for accepting God's/Jesus' gift from His Last Will and Testament? What are all the gifts that we might expect from Jesus' Will? There's no discussion of codicils. Is that not applicable in this topic/discussion? Who was the executor(s)? How did he/they determined who was truly qualified to receive the gift? Yes, interesting analogy but not quite complete. Please, enlighten me further. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

156 | Study of the minor prophets? | OT general | Country Girl | 127659
Hopefully, we'll be able to insert something into the subject like "Exclusive Study on Joel" and "Exclusive Study on Habakkuk." Pretty soon, the Forum participants will figure out our meaning is sincere and will be respected. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

157 | Study of the minor prophets? | OT general | Country Girl | 127646
Sounds good and practical. What do you consider to be an ideal size of "class." (Not that we would restrict it to that size.) Blessings to you for starting such a study. Country Girl |

158 | Worship/Service? original context Greek | Rom 12:1 | Country Girl | 127546
So what is the practical difference between these two interpretations? What does your preferred word of "service" mean to our christianity? Could this be related to "works of faith" as described in James? If not, why not? Please expound. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
||||||
159 | Being of sound mind... | Heb 9:17 | Country Girl | 127543
So what all is bequethed to those who receive? Who decides who qualifies? Who is the executor? What are the qualifications? Is there anything specific we have to do to accept? Is there room for/can we expect any codicil(s)? Good topic. Country Girl |

160 | The Teacher and His teachings? | John 14:23 | Country Girl | 127534
There seems to be a rush to reach a conclusion without including the rest of God's Word on this subject. Yes, we do absolutely nothing toward our own salvation, I agree but that doesn't mean we get out of doing the works of faith as described in James, Chapter 2. We must remember, we must in addition to obeying Jesus' Words actually spoken by Him, we must also follow and obey the words written by God's representatives throughout the NT. James is very clear on this matter, a true and genuine faith in God WILL produce fruit/works of Christianity like we see encouraged throughout His Word. Without those works, James says our faith is dead and being dead would not be of any value to anyone. Hope this helps and blessings to you all. Country Girl |
