143 | which bible to use | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 119765
Hello mikec, I don't want to add too much confusion to what has been recommended. I agree with kalos that NKJV and NASB are good translations. I've used both. My current preferences (and the ones I recommend to any who ask) are New Living Translation (NLT) and English Standard Version (ESV). NLT as easier to read, and ESV is more literal. Steve |

144 | God allows/causes? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 121905
Hello Mark, If I may jump in... This is a difficult subject. As has been pointed out, God does cause "evil" to befall man. Another example: Amos 3:6 (ESV) Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it? Isaiah 45:7 (ESV) I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things. You say questioningly, "For instance...the murders that took place at Columbine in Colorado...9/11 at the World Trade Center...drunk driver killing an innocent person...etc... this would be stuff that the Lord allows by our free will...He doesn't cause such stuff, right?" What we know for certain is that God will cause things to happen because they need to be accomplished in order to complete what God has in His overall plan. Look at this: Proverbs 16:4 (ESV) The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. God made the wicked man (although He didn't make the man wicked). It's in His plan, and I don't pretend to know how it all works out. Steve |

146 | Question: ESV or NASB Update | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 125322
Hello Marathonman1025, I used NASB for 20 years. When ESV came out, I switched because I liked the way it read. Part of this was being brought up with RSV, so it was familiar to me. Steve |

148 | What does God feel? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 128137
Hello nallon, Is your question: What emotions does God feel? The answer is: all that we feel. Because we are made in the image and likeness of God, we can assume He has the same emotions as we do. Also, there are specific places in Scripture that tells us those emotions: regret, sorrow, anguish, joy, etc. Steve |

150 | What is "reformed readingof Scripture"? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 129323
Hello geof, "Reformed" is a system of theology that was developed through John Calvin primarily. It's really an interpretation of or hermeneutical approach to Scripture. Steve |

151 | Longest Book New Testament, Luke/Acts ? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 129342
Hello neal, EdB is correct. Luke's chapter divisions are longer than Acts, so even though Acts has more chapters, Luke is actually longer. Steve |

Hello tgbishop, I wasn't sure if this was answered. I would say it's God's holiness: Is 6:3 (NASB) And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." Steve |

158 | Have you ever read a book by a Catholic? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 131488
Hello Dalcent, You answered to me by mistake, but I would like to respond. What you state concerning the creedal confession is correct. I agree with it. However in application (as stated in the catechism) there is almost no agreement. For instance, the catechism states: 1116 Sacraments are "powers that come forth" from the Body of Christ, [Cf. Lk 5:17; 6:19; 8:46] which is ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in his Body, the Church. They are "the masterworks of God" in the new and everlasting covenant. This is simply a misuse of Scripture. The sacraments have no derived power. It sounds good, but the Bible never hints at this. And I could easily give other examples. Steve |

159 | They were not born again at time of marr | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 131506
Hello moey, It doesn't matter. They are legally married whether it's performed in Catholic church or a root cellar. Or whether it's performed by a priest, judge, or ship's captain. There simply is no need to renew vows in order to make it a "Christian" marriage. Steve |

160 | Will we know our loved ones in heaven? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 133118
Hello Sometimes Thomas, There are no verses that tell us whether or not we will know our loved ones in heaven. However, it could be assumed from such passages as Rev 6:9-11 where they were asking about avenging their deaths. This shows that they know what is going on and understand all that is happening. So I would say that we will know others whether loved ones or not. Steve |
