141 | Can you be pro-life but not do anything? | Genesis | justme | 220765
I think you are looking at pro life support in a rather norrow way. Many protestant churches support financially these centers, and there are many who actually work in helping. There are those Catholics that are more outspoken for the work they do, and many protestants who help in a silent way. I personally have helped and never made any issue about it. However there were Catholics who made it very well known how much they were doing. You might want to reconsider what you think. Blessings justme |

142 | Can a female preach? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 220001
Robert Wood: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! The subject of women in ministry and specfically preaching is a divisive one. On either position of this subject evokes some strong emotions. Both sides of women in ministry have their unique Biblical understanding that they think proves their position. One thing I do know is anyone seeking to be in ministry does not force their call to ministry upon those who oppose the ministry. The Lord calls and preperation for ministry is a major part of that call. Those called by God into servanthood must be humble and willing to allow the church to validate their personal call into ministry. Unless there is a recognizable way to observe a person in serving others in a natural way of their Christian life then the call might be bogus. There are such women as Beth Moore, Kay Author, Ann Graham Lotes, who are not pastors yet have a proven call to minisrty. Women have been and are in many ministry positions today. In the eighteen hundreds there are countless places women started Schools and extended this to sunday Schools and even became pastors of mission churches. God will use those who are willing to serve, especially so if men are unwilling or are not genuine believers to accomplish His work. The huge issue is men are often hard hearted, unsaved, or spiritually inmature to assume leadership of their own family say nothing about a church. There are valid reasons to examine whether there are restrictions on areas that a woman believer may serve in. This is a very difficult subject to dialogue about, without causing unnecessary emotional uprising on either side of the subject. Blessings. justme |

143 | men and women as friends | John 13:35 | justme | 219571
82788: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I believe that the friendship between men and womwn in Biblical times was totally different than we would call just friends now. I beleive that rarely if ever, should married persons be close friends with the opposite sex. Too many people in ministry have fallen because of making such poor judgement as becoming close with the opposite sex. Marriage changes everything and inmy vied scripture warns us in Proverbs, and the several places in the New Testament to watch out, because the appearance of that looks bad can cause others to fall. justme |

146 | Who are "the least of these?" | Matt 25:40 | justme | 219362
R D Miller: Interesting to note there are no parallels like this in any of the three other gospels. These verses confront every Christian as to how we respond to human need. There is a future judgement clearly stated by Matthew. In Matthew 25:31-46 there seems to be no suprise when the sheep and goats are each assigned different places. I don't think either the sheep or goats expected to be in a different place other than where they are. To think this passage is saying that righteous works will win salvation would be a serious misinterpretation. The sheep did not show love to gain reward. The sheep showed Christian love in their normal traffic pattern of life. The goats also show the lack of campassion and love because they too walked in their normal way. Perhaps the goats might of treated the the needs of people differently had they known their eternal destination depended upon their compassion for those in need. Jesus uses himself as the "I was" in the illistrations. The brothers in my opinion are anyone in genuine need. I don't think this limits the "least of them" to acts given just to Christians. The least could be to the unsaved as well. However even a deeper compassion for brothers and sisters in Christ has a depth of it's own. John 13:34-35 says all people will know we are His disciples by the way we show our love for others. Those who are indifferent to the Gospel reject Christ. Today we see open rejection of Christ and Christians in such a wide scale in our country. "Fundamenal Christians" have even been labeled as "might be a terrorists" recently by some in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. There are those who have little sympathy or compassion for people in need. Who might be those who are the least? Mothers in "with unplanned pregnantancies", "babies (real souls) in the whomb", eldery, children, parents be they single, married, ect. There are so many people in genuine need. "The least of these" is such a wide scope, and to be honest no government, church, organization, or person could possible reach out to all the "least of these". With all I have said, there is a interpretation that is most generally in the understanding that I present. Having said that the Holy Spirit might be directing you to a specific additional way for you personally to grow spiritually. I have been motivated in the past, after reading this passage in Matthew 25:31-46 to be more aware of the "least of these". The separation of "sheep" and "goats" is a message that runs through the entire New Testament. Even though the message of eternal punishment (hell) is mentioned over and over in the New Testament, people still joke and reject Jesus Christ. They which reject Jesus Christ even deny the very existence of a Holy God. I have no idea when the end time will come. I believe this passage in Matthew has a warning in it for everyone who has surrendered to Christ as Lord. Christians, of all people we are to be the most compassionate, and sympathic in the world, country, state, and place in which we live. Thank you for bringing up such a passage to spur us on the greater love for one another. justme |

147 | ... | Titus 3:9 | justme | 219166
Seadirt: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. The dialogue over the Sabbath has had endless threads over the almost nine yeats I have been on this forum. This subject of the Sabbath ends up that neither side of the dialogue changes the other. At times there has been rude attitudes, disrespect, unkindness, and anger has weaved into the responses. I believe this is a subject that has been beat to death. In the spirit of love knidness and respect I believe Scripture has the answer to this subject of the Sabbath. Romans 14 the complete chapter. Verses 5-12 deal with the day of worship and how we are to be judged by God and not each other for these days. By following Scripture this ends the debate. I am to respect your days of worship, and you are to respect mine. Most important of all is as a Christian we are called to prove our Christianity by the way we love one another. Thus there is no need to cause any endless dialogue. May God bless us both. justme |

148 | Assurance of salvation | Eph 1:7 | justme | 219145
Mathaytes: There is a problem with giving the "Left Behind" books. The books are filled with fiction. That's why they are sold in the fiction department. These books were made to make a profit, and they sure did for both of the authors. For what you paid for these books you could have bought a nice set of Bible Commentaries, that are pure factual. I do not believe scaring people into making Jesus Lord, it seldom lasts. May I suggest the NIV Student Bible for your son. At twelve he is ready and this Bible is just what he will use for a long time. The NIV Student Bible answeres questions, just like the question he is dealing with now. I have given out many of these Bibles to yound people in the churches I have pastored in. All og our children got these Bibles, and our 35 year old sone still uses his even with his other Bibles. I really encourage you to do this. One of the authors of the books you mention has some very serious theological issues that cause me deep concern. When we mis fiction with such important Biblical Doctrines as the coming of the Lord Jesus, that is a HUGE problem for me. The same issue you are facing I have heard before when other have read these mixed truth with fiction books. How is you son to know what is fiction? I hope you see my point. God guide you in you special relationship with your son. justme |

150 | CHRISTIAN PLAYING MUSIC IN BAR | Rom 14:22 | justme | 219069
Humbleheart: Please read Romans 14:22. I follow the Scripture and I am careful in what I approve. The mans intention might be 100 percent perfect, but he might be offending or hurting a weaker person who would go to the places you mentioned, and wind up doing what most people do at these places. You don't say how many this man and his method have won for Christ. I personally don't fel real excited about this method. justme |

153 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 218220
FytRobert: Many church members give special gifts to their pastor at times when they feel it is their way of expressing love or being thankful. Most funerals, weddings appreciation is shown in some tangable way. For example, having to travel some distance for someones surgery. Most of the time being a special speaker that is not part of the postors normal duties. I made it a point to thank the person personally, and acknowledge the gift with a card or letter. At funerals this is usually handled by the funeral director in charge of the service. I have done a good some funerals that I was given nothing and it was pure ministry. I have travled several hundred miles to be with a member that had heart surgery, and the church that I was pastor gave me motel and gas money. The best solution is to let the Lord speak for the pastor, as He takes care of our needs.I would think members of the church where the pastor ministers would appreciate the pastor ministering as part od his or her normal duty. If the members do show some appreciation than thank the Lord. I hope this helps, and as far as I know this is generally the way this is handled. justme |

154 | Rapture | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 216842
fcs375: Here is what I consider the best book to explain all four views. THE MEANING OF THE MILLENNIUM FOUR VIEWS Edited by Robert G. Clouse published by InterVarsity Press orignal copy date 1977. This book has been updated. I found this book does the best job of presenting all four views. There is a long list of books that do the same thing but I consider the book listed above as the best for most people. The problem I have with Dispensational Premillennialism is not until 1819 or so did Darby come up with this theory. I douby very seriously if anyone just reading Scripture could come to this theory of Dispensational Premillennialism by ones self. I believe that there is more likely a mid or post tribulation rapture. Read Matthew chapters 24 and 25 and you I doubt you will read a pre tribulation understanding out of these two chapters. Reading this book and Scripture I am sure you will come to a view that you can defend. Blessings. justme |

155 | Should we dedicate older children to Him | 1 Sam 1:28 | justme | 216780
Searcher: Even with children who both parents being genuinely born again Christians, dedication of a child there is so much more. Reguardless of how a child was raised, each person must of their own free will surrender to Christ Jesus. The parents do their best, and when a child matures then they live their own values. When every person goes into being a mature adult and chooses what teaching their parents taught, that they will call their own. We all have the choice to surrender to or reject Christ. Nothing is more painful than to have a adult child living without Christ. What pain parents endure whenan adult child has rejected jesus Christ is unspeakable. There is no age limit we can dedicate our families and long as they are still children. Perhaps an oppertunity for family redidication would start a new awakening of what family really means would be a good conclusion to a series of sermons? As for baptising infants, this is especially so in the Roman Catholic church, infants are (sprinkled) baptised into salvation by the church. Which according to scripture is not possible. I personally have a huge problem with baptising infants, with the intention of securing their salvation. That is unbiblical, and it is not just a dedication that the parents believe is taking place. That kind of infant baptism is contrary to everything Scripture teaches. I am convienced more than ever, that the baptism of Christ was by immersion. Scripture records Jesus came out of the water, and that would be rather inaccurate to discribe sprinkling. That is just my thoughts on Baptism. Blessings. justme |

158 | Why do we delay baptism, not His Supper? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 216768
Searcher:-) Communion is either open or closed. Unless the pastor gives instructions on who can patrake of the elements then many unbaptised believers might think as long as they have surrendered to Christ they can partake. I have never been in a church that Commmunion was restricted to that churches members only, but I know they do exist. As I think more about it there may well be a valid point in not partaking of Communion until one has been baptised. I am not sure if there is solid scriptyal evidence either for or against partaking of Communion before being baptised. This does merit some indepth study on the subject on my part. Perhaps this might be turned into a situation ethics type of thing. There are several "what if's" in this situation I can think of. For instance, what if, a elderly bedridden person surrenders to Christ, can they partake of Communion? I know you can think other such cases. So Seracher what are your thoughts? What authority does the church have in making the requirements? This is a good subject for dialogue, maybe it will strile up some good thoughts. Blessings justme |
