Bible Answer: FytRobert: Many church members give special gifts to their pastor at times when they feel it is their way of expressing love or being thankful. Most funerals, weddings appreciation is shown in some tangable way. For example, having to travel some distance for someones surgery. Most of the time being a special speaker that is not part of the postors normal duties. I made it a point to thank the person personally, and acknowledge the gift with a card or letter. At funerals this is usually handled by the funeral director in charge of the service. I have done a good some funerals that I was given nothing and it was pure ministry. I have travled several hundred miles to be with a member that had heart surgery, and the church that I was pastor gave me motel and gas money. The best solution is to let the Lord speak for the pastor, as He takes care of our needs.I would think members of the church where the pastor ministers would appreciate the pastor ministering as part od his or her normal duty. If the members do show some appreciation than thank the Lord. I hope this helps, and as far as I know this is generally the way this is handled. justme |
