141 | How much submitting must a woman do? | 1 Corinthians | glory777 | 11627
Norrie If a husband is physically abusing either his wife or children she should get out of there as fast as she can! No qustions, just go! As far as mental abuse from her husband, if she is a Christian, she has an advantage. The scripture tells us all that we are in Christ, and with a strong belief and church family, she has the means to see herself as she really is. I Cor. 7:16 gives good advise about being "unevenly yoked". If one or the other is unbelieving, the one could have an influence on the other and both could be brought tothe kngdom. I have an unbelieving husband but i n the last couple years I have seen remarkable change in him and I believe and trust in the Lord that he will come to accept Him in a personal way. Submission is not something that is beat into you, but something you willingly lay down. I was not submissive. I was rebellious. When I learned that the Lord truly wanted me to stop trying to be the head of the household and put the house in the God given order, I was freed. My husband has the authority and will eventually have to answer to God for decisions he makes concerning our home. I will give advise, but if he takes it or not, the decision is up to him. I did my part and I will trust him to do what is best - whether it turns out that way or not. Will try to get more to you on this a little later. Your sister in Christ- Debbie |

142 | Will keeping Law yield eternal life? | Lev 18:5 | glory777 | 11557
I think it depended on where there heart was. I take it this was in the time before Christ. If they followed the verses quoted by Jesus they could. Abraham was saved, again not by works, but by faith. He loved the Lord. By just keeping the Law, no. Even if they didn't keep the law with all it's little add-ons, if they truly loved the Lord, tried to live by the law, then, yes. Debbie |

143 | What is a generatonal curse? | Gal 1:9 | glory777 | 11511
I think today, people would call it "trends" or "bends". Characteristics that are passed down from one generation to the next. Can they be demonic? Where do the nasty things of the world come from? I believe it could be a possibility, but who is stronger, God or the devil? Rom 8:37 "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us." I know I had a problem with anger and rebellion. Looking back, I see that it was a generational thing. My mother had this, and she got it from her parents. I did not want to pass this on, it was not congruent with being a follower of Christ. I had to turn the problem over to the Lord, repent of the sins, renounce any control satan had over this area of my life. I fould Scripture to counteract these area and used them, as Jesus did in the wilderness. I have seen a change. Others have seen a change. There are times when I am tempted (fewer), but I have the Word of God always with me, and anger does not control me. There are other problems that are "family" problems. Alcoholism, promiscuity, etc. I do believe, that with the power of the Holy Spirit you can overcome anything that interferes with your walk with the Lord. |

144 | What Happened To Enoch? | Gen 5:24 | glory777 | 11494
I know I am terribly outnumbered here, and I think you are probably right about Moses and Elijah. But I sure would like for it to be Enoch. I guess because I would love to have my name be the "Woman who walked with God". Can't wait to see him. Stubbornly, Debbie |

145 | Are Enoch and Elijah The Two Witnesses? | Gen 5:24 | glory777 | 11261
Steve- In Joshua 1:1 it state "After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord...". I personally think that the two witnesses are going to be Enoch and Elijah. They are the only 2 in scripture that haven't had a physical death. However, another train of thought puts the witnesses as being Elijah and Moses as representing the Law and Prophets. Take your pick. But I put more credence on Enoch because of Heb. 9:27. |

146 | Do All Things Work Together For Good? | Rom 8:28 | glory777 | 11235
Steve- I can talk a good talk now, I have not had to be in a situation like this, but I hear about how the love of God is spreading in the countries where people are being persecuted for their faith. I just got a report about a small house church in SE Asia(Ibelieve it was) where Christianity is illegal. As they gathered the people together, ropes were placed around the children's necks and the parents were told to renounce Jesus or the children would be hung. The parents told their children they would see them soon in Heaven. After this, the parents were given the option again or be run over by a, we call them caterpillars. Again they refused and were singing praises to our God as they were being crushed. I understand Christianity is spreading like wildfire in that area. Or what about Cassie (?) in Littleton, CO that was shot after she told her killer that she believed in God, knowing that that would be the result? Again, that incident brought more people to the Lord than any amount of preaching probably would have. But we are talking about people who are "called". Even a person dying in agony, who shows that the Lord is His strength, could bring others to the Lord. Debbie |

147 | how can you fight evolution? | Gen 1:1 | glory777 | 11234
I have recomended this site also. I believe it also has a place where you can give them your name and address and you will get monthly newsletters about what ICR is finding out about new proofs to discredit the THEORY of evolution. Remember, it was always called "theory" and still has no positive proof to back it up. However, the Bible is being shown to be historically accurate. Isn't God awesome? His wonders never cease - looking at the animal world is enough to make us see the incredible imagination our God has. Debbie |

148 | Why Jesus prays to his Father | John 10:29 | glory777 | 11182
Isa- I have a web site you might be interested in. go to www.ICR.org They do research on what science is finding out about how truthful the bible really is in recording historical fact. In reading how sinful David, Solomon, etc. were, the one thing that they all had in common is their trust in God. It was by faith and the grace of God that caused these men to be so loved by the Lord. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works (or lack of sin, I might add) lest any man should boast" Eph 2:8-9. Abraham told Sarah to lie about being his wife, commited adultary, but it was his faith that made him righteous. Romans 4. I am so glad that I don't have to "do" anything to be righteous before my God. It makes me want to do what He would like me to do, just because He loves me. I have confidence in my future and true peace in my soul. I do pray that you will come to the same conclusion. Blessings, Debbie |

149 | Catholics and Heaven??? | Eph 2:8 | glory777 | 11179
I believe a Catholic can go to Heaven. But not by anything he can do. Not through baptism, masses, communion or other sacraments can you be saved. No one can pray to get someone else into Heaven. This is a personal decision only the individual can make. If a person, regardless of what denomination they are, realizes their sinful state, repents of it, and asks Jesus Christ to come into his heart, acknowledging that He died for their sins and asking Him to be Lord of their lives will they go to Heaven. That is the being "born again" experience Jesus talks about. Unfortunately, the Catholic church also teaches things that causes the people to lose fellowship (not salvation) with the Father. Among those is praying to Mary and saints. I don't believe that if you are a member of any particular church that it automatically gains you admission to Heaven. You have to have that personal relationship with God that only comes from being born again. |

150 | that they may be one as we are one | Mark 10:18 | glory777 | 11154
Isa- Don't go far ahead in John 17. If you stop at John 17:5 you will see He was with God the Father from the beginning, before the world. I think that puts Him in the "God" category. In John 17:22 He is talking about His followers, then and now having spiritual unity. When Jesus is accepted as Lord and Saviour, we are born into the family of God. Even we in the forum have different viewpoints on ways of worship, but we love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ because we have His Spirit. |

151 | Not Peace, But A Sword? | Matt 10:34 | glory777 | 11131
You are looking at two different kinds of peace. God's peace and man's peace. Even in turmoil, you can have God's peace, trusting in Him and knowing that there is no hurt you have that Jesus didn't have and doesn't share in. He is our strength and peace. But putting your faith and belief in Him will cause rejection, resentment, and persecution even within families. This is the sword spoken of and relates to the peace of man. The Lord's peace will never leave you.
152 | Are We to Hate His (Our) Enemies? | Ps 139:22 | glory777 | 11002
Steve- I think it has something to do with the time frame. Prior to Jesus, there were laws to live by, and I think that keeping the law was what was important. Now, the emphasis is on the heart. Not only do you not murder, but you do not hate or think about it. The Mosaic law was impossible to keep, the New Law is even more impossible, except for the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit. Deb |

153 | Should (Christian) Jews Live Like Jews? | Acts 21:21 | glory777 | 10945
Steve, I think it is legitimate for Jews to maintain their Jewish culture, just as it is for a Swede to maintain their culture. However, if they are Christian, they must know that it is grace that saves them, and not their laws. The law about not mingling with non-Jews was shown by God to not apply anymore to Peter (Acts 10), and he was also called on the carpet by Paul about eating only Kosher foods when he was with "mixed" company of Jew and Gentile believers. So I do not believe that it is a neccessity. |

154 | Great is Your faithfulness? | Lamentations | glory777 | 10875
Nolan- I think because Jeremiah could see the long picture. He could see how every time Israel turned to God, He was faithful but they kept turning away. The one part of the Bible that really touches my heart is Matt.23:37 where Jesus is lamenting over Jerusalem -"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." But He was always faithful then, and He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, Glory to His Name. Debbie |

155 | What kind of whale swallowed Jonah? | Jonah | glory777 | 10867
Ok, Nolan, Getting serious. There could have been what scientist would call prehistoric fishes of such huge dimensions like we don't have today. Job 41:1 and Psalm 104:26 both speak of Leviathan. There would have been a lack of oxygen but If God could have provided a fish right at that time, He could have made provision for Jonah to survive. I wish I could remember where I heard it, but on TV not too long ago, I heard about a man who had been swallowed by, I think it was a sperm whale. It was killed shortly thereafter and the man was still alive, although badly burned by the gastric juices and blind. (He probably didn't have too many people who enjoyed breathing around him for a while either. I can't help it - your comments to my "big one" still has me laughing!). If this could happen now without God's orchestrating it for scripture, I know he could do it then. So I believe it was a sea dwelling dinosaur. Your sister- Deb |

156 | Why was Nehemiah afraid? | Nehemiah | glory777 | 10843
Nolan- According to my bible's commentary "Nehemiah is afraid to appear sad at an inappropriate time before the king because cupbearers were to hide their emotions for the king's sake. To violate this was punishable by death." So in Chapter 1 he was afraid, but in chapter two I think he was afraid the king would refuse. As a cupbearer, he was privy to a lot of the king's confidential conversation and was very trusted, not someone easily replaced. Debbie |

158 | What does 'stagnant in spirit' mean? | Zephaniah | glory777 | 10839
Lord, keep us from being complacent! They were at a standstill, there was no spiritual growth, no searching for the Lord. They were happily going about business as usual. I think about a stagnant pond. Algae growing, mosquitos swarming, oozing and mucky. No growth, no new life and foul things beginning to creep in. Decay. Without seeking, studying, staying excited about the Lord, fellowshiping with other believers and worshipping (even though there may be seasons of silence)keeps your spirit alive and thriving. 159 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | glory777 | 10337
I believe that speaking in tongues is a sign, but I also know a lot of people who are saved and who have the Holy Spirit residing in them who don't. My denomination believes scripture teaches that when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, tongues can be a sign and usually is. But when you receive the bapitsm you don't just receive some of the gifts, you receive them all. You may only use one, or you may use many. The apostles were saved, but were not baptized in the Spirit until Pentecost. The man crucified with Jesus was saved, but did not have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is desirable to have the gifts, but read 1 Cor. 13. If I never spoke in tongues and had as much love for people as Jesus did, it would be fine with me. That is the greatest gift and everything else is just frosting. Concentrate on that. Peace to you. Debbie |

160 | Why will we know each other? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 10232
Not so much a verse, but if we are changed as Jesus was changed after He died, where doors and walls did not mean anything and He could be here and then there in an instant, so shall we. However, the apostles knew Him, He still had the scars, so even though molecularly He was changed, His appearance was recognizable.
