122 | Why the long threads on sexual topics? | Not Specified | justme | 145693
A few days ago I noticed a quite long thread that many in the Forum joined in on. The subject was self-pleasuring. I was amazed at the advice given by so many! Not to my amazment it seems to me that subjects that deal with moral issues, abortion, divorce, living together, and personal problems get what seems like too much attention. At times "keyboard psychologists" give advice that is not wise, and has no Biblical basis. My point is that I wish that some of the Bible based questions got as much response, and the threads were as long and wide in opinions. Why do you think this does not happen as much? |

123 | The TNIV in it's published form now? | Not Specified | justme | 147293
About 18 months ago some of us reviewed the TNIV. For me the TNIV was unworthy of publication, and many in the forum were equally unimpressed. The TNIV is not out in full publication both Old and New Testament. I opened one and read in several portions of Scripture where I felt the preview text was seriously flawed. To my amazement the few places I skimmed over were changed to a more acceptable wording. Has anyone looked at the final published text of the TNIV? Not having but a few quick monents to glance over the TNIV I would like to hear for others who have looked at the TNIV in the final text. Blessings. justme |

124 | Have you looked at the published TNIV/ | Not Specified | justme | 147420
Has anyone looked at the published TNIV. I would like to know if it is a worthy translation? When I previed the TNIV in the early stages before publication. I felt it was seriously flawed. I glanced at The TNIV in a book store recently, and saw some major changes for the better. I wonder if the publishers reconsidered and mad the TNIV more inline with conserative theology? Please answer this ONLY IF YOU HAVE LOOKED AT THE TNIV. Thank you and blessings. justme |

127 | John 3:16 | Not Specified | justme | 159722
In John 3:16, are these words of John or Jesus? I recently read a article that says these are the words of John. After reading this verse many times, it has room to consider this option. Any thoughts?
128 | Twisted Scripture, what do we do? | Not Specified | justme | 161048
I purchased a TNIV and have spent much time reading it so I can speak with some first hand knowledge. Several of us in this forum previewed the TNIV NT before it was put into print and circulation. I personally find the TNIV unacceptable, but interesting to see where liberal teaching is headed. The bad press the TNIV has received is justified. However, why have the New Living Translation and the Message also received equal the negative reviews? Gender Nutral translations are sneeking in, with the aid of good recognizable Christian's of noterity. Just as there are versions which have hidden motives, there are versions that place the male form of words when it is not correct to do so. Dr. James Dobson recently had a 2 part teaching about the TNIV, and in Vol 28 No 3 and 4 of 2005 of the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL Dr. James White has a two part article "BIBLE VERSIONS: THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY". Once again I ask how many English Versions of the Bible do we need? On the James Dobsom program the guest who helped translate the ESV said the only versions he reccomended were the ESV, NASB, NKJV, and teh KJV. I was concerned that the NIV was not even considered as one to use. However in a large percentage of churches the NIV is widely used as their churches Bible of choice. Is the TNIV a wolf in sheeps clothing? what should we as Christians do to show our concern about translations who alter the text to reflect gender nutral or other attempts to bring a bias out in twisted scripture? 129 | How much is too much? | Not Specified | justme | 161824
On Bott Radio A speaker asked how much money is to much for a Christian? A million dollars, hundreds of millions? The question is how little can we live on? Then, at point can we stop earning, and give all to God? Any thoughts on this? Justme |

130 | Reading too much into C S Lewis ? | Not Specified | justme | 164088
There is much coverage of C. S. Lewis, his life, and his writtings of late. I am concerned that to much is being drawn out of the stories he made up, especially in relating it to Jesus. I am just not sure that so much of Christ was intended to be assumed nearly fifty years later. Perhaps, am I wrong? I heard his step son on PBS say that smoking and drinking were acceptable for Christians. I have serious problems with ever saying smoking is not totally bad for our health and not a habit I would ever defend. Could someone please help me to better understand this confussion. If at all possible use Scripture to explain your understanding. |

131 | Demon's in people today? | Not Specified | justme | 164458
In our world today, can you point out a person in the public eye that you might consider Demon posessed? I doubt that some even consider this when we listen to worldly people talk. Are the Demons of today more or less active than in Jesus time on earth?
132 | A better English Bible ? | Not Specified | justme | 166396
I have recently bought a ESV and find it delightful! I have been compairing it with the updated NASB. The ESV seems to favor the KJV and the sweet flow of words are beautiful. The NASB has words that seem to have a deeper meaning at times which really touch my heart. For me I was reluctant to buy a ESV because it was just one more English translation, which I really did not need. I am so glad that other users of the ESV have said how they have learned to rely on the ESV, and encouraged the use of the ESV. Now I have the ESV, the NASB, and the NIV together as I study. I would encourage others to look and see if this might help in their Bible study as well. Has anyone else found a English Bible that has helped as much as the three I mentioned? |

133 | Are these essentials for Salvation? | Not Specified | justme | 167047
Dr. Norman Geisler, in the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL, Vol. 28 No. 06 2005 page 29 has a list of essential Christian Doctrines. In paragraf three Dr Geisler has a list of "It is not necessary, however to believe in." "Christ's virgin birth,...Christ's bodily ascension...Christ's present service, or...Christ's second coming and final judgement as a condition for obtaining a right standing with God (justification)." What is your reaction? Do you agree or not agree with Dr. Geisler. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND WITHOUT SCRIPTUAL EVIDENCE BACKING YOUR OPINION. |

136 | V chip for Christians? | Not Specified | justme | 168542
As Christians we are called to be a light, to live so others see the difference in us compared to the way of the world. What do you think about Christians who have movie stations like HBO etc. Some Christians do not have television because of the offensive nature of many programs. What is a Christian response to these issues?
137 | The new "BOOK OF JUDAS"? | Not Specified | justme | 170327
The Big News yesterday was the "Book of JUDAS" that was found. I am amazed at the liberal "Biblical Schollars" and their remarks saying Judas was Jesus' friend. None of us has read the trabslated text, yet so many non religious NEWS REPORTERS are all shouting that Judas has now been picked out as evil wrongly in Christian history. How con we make this into a positive situationto introduce others to Christ? |

140 | Matthew 24:7 missing word? | Not Specified | justme | 177806
In the Greek New Testament, Matthew 24:7 ".....and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes...." The KJV says "....there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes,...." The NASB "....there will befamines and earthquakes." In reasearching this verse after looking into many ranslations, the word "plagues" and or "pestilences" has been removed. Yet in the Inerlinear Greek-English NEW TESTAMENT by J p. Green the word "plagues" is there with the Strong's Concordance number of 3061. I have great respect for the translators of the NASB and the ESV, and both have no reference to either "Plagues" or "pestilences". The NIV also leaves of the reference of either word. After spending most of this morning looking for reason for the absence of the two words, I have reached a dead end in my study. Can anyone give me a clue as to what the reason is for not using either of the words in more recent translations. The only thing I can think of would be that in early manuscripst neither word is present. But, that's only my guess. Thank's for your help. Justme |
