121 | who was the first black and why? | Gen 1:26 | BMyers | 201576
You say all races, your question was the African race. All races came from Noah's family. All nations descend from Noah's family. Read Genesis chapter 10. The Hamites were located in the southwestern Asia and northeast Africa. Cush, Put, and Mizraim located in Africa. Once again, I have to head out the door to work so the answer is short. Brad |

123 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201569
You didn't put me on the spot. I just like to help, but I know my knowledge is limited and I didn't have the knowledge to answer the question completely. My one and only language is English, but you can ask my school teachers, it was not my best subject. My friends make fun of me because I use a lot of 'Bradisms'. You would hope the Apostles Creed would be based on the Bible. Although the title "Apostles Creed" is somewhat misleading. It was not something created by the apostles, but more so by the church leaders that followed after the apostles. One has to be careful when getting into this subject because you can easily step on toes when dealing with church history. The Roman Catholic view on this matter is most likely different than that of a Protestant. In the end, what matters is this view Biblically sound. Right now, (which I haven't went to the link that was posted to read more on the topic) I'm undecided. I'm still trying to decide if it is truly an issue if Jesus went to hell or not? Either way Jesus defeated the grave and hell. I know that is the most important part of this discussion. Brad |

124 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201565
I wish I could enlighten, but as I have stated more than once I'm no Bible scholar. I was hoping someone that is Catholic may have some insight into the Creed (or Lutheran, even church of England). The United Methodist changed the creed some and reads: "was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;". If you do a search on the Catholic Encyclopedia online, it has an interesting article about the creed and the history behind it. I know very little about the Creed since I’ve attended an Assembly of God church my whole life and the Creed is not something we recite. I don’t know what the Chinese version of the Creed might be? Reading the online article and doing a little research apparently the Creed went through some changes at different Councils. As the debates were going on in the Councils, the Creed was adjusted to make sure it expressed the belief of the Council. At this point you have just about depleted my knowledge on the Creed. As far as the orginal question did Jesus go to hell/hades? AC 2:31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY. As you can tell by my typing, I'm not an English major either, so I read the above verse and can take it either way (He did (but hell couldn't hold Him)or He didn't go to hell (because hell didn't have power over Him)). Is there important Biblical issue I'm missing if Jesus did or did not go to hell? Thanks, Brad |

125 | Who are the Ammonites? | Gen 10:16 | BMyers | 201539
Hey Doc, Question, my Bible dictionaries and online Catholic Encyclopedia, plus a few other sites do list the "Ammonites" as the correct reference for the Ammon descendants. The dead sea creature is spelt with the lower case 'ammonite'. Is there a difference of opinions on the proper name for this race or did I miss something along the way. Thanks, Brad |

127 | who was the first black and why? | Gen 1:26 | BMyers | 201494
The quick reply to this is read the story of the flood in Genesis. See who went onto the ark Genesis 7:13. As your progress through the story, what happen to all mankind (Genesis 7:21-23). Genesis 9:1 starts the population of the earth all over again. So, all races started with Noah and his family. Sorry I don't have more time for a longer post, but I have to head out the door to work. 128 | who was the first black and why? | Gen 1:26 | BMyers | 201468
I always love it when people use the word "impossible". It is "impossible" that a person who is dead for three days comes back to life. It is "impossible" for the world to be created in 6 days. It is "impossible" for man to be created from dirt. It is "impossible" to feed five thousand with a few loaves and couple of fish. My God specializes in the "impossible". MT 19:26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, “ With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 1CO 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1CO 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. |

Why do you say "all races" were created in 1:26, 27? In the Unger's Bible Dictionary on page 313, it gives a break down of where different tribes descended from based on Noah's Sons. It would appear that African based races descended from Ham. |

131 | What does "Edens Dawn Light Mean?" | Heb 2:9 | BMyers | 200922
The Salvation Pioneer God didn't put angels in charge of this business of salvation that we're dealing with here. It says in Scripture, What is man and woman that you bother with them; why take a second look their way? You made them not quite as high as angels, bright with Eden's dawn light; Then you put them in charge of your entire handcrafted world. When God put them in charge of everything, nothing was excluded. But we don't see it yet, don't see everything under human jurisdiction. What we do see is Jesus, made "not quite as high as angels," and then, through the experience of death, crowned so much higher than any angel, with a glory "bright with Eden's dawn light." In that death, by God's grace, he fully experienced death in every person's place. From the Message |

134 | Who or what was sacrificed? | Judg 11:39 | BMyers | 199869
Just because I joke about my grandma's faithfulness to the KJV (my dad's also) doesn't mean I don't appreciate the years of passionate study and their love and hunger for God's Word. I make fun of the translation issues more so because I feel most get blown out of proportion. God has used the KJV to wonderfully speak to generations of people and I would never try to get my grandma to switch. I hope someday that I'm as versed in the Word as she is. On the other side, I know that the good Lord has used and is using modern translations like the NIV and the NASB to speak to multitudes in a language that doesn't appear so archaic to them. If I thought that reading one version vs another would truly make a person a better Christian, I would do everything in my power to promote that version. Yet, I have realized that it isn't the version that makes you a Christian. It isn't the version that gives you the passion for God's Word. It is God's grace and Holy Spirit that drives and fills the hunger for more of the Word. After years working as a paramedic, I've come to realize how short this brief life on this earth can be. I've seen many people taken from this world before what we would consider their time. I've seen family's weep; I've seen family's being comforted by the knowledge of knowing where their love one has gone. Through all this I have come to two realizations. The first, you must always be prepared for your call to Glory. Secondly, life is too short to be worried about things that are not of eternal value. Worry about the things of eternal value and have fun with the rest! Brad |

137 | Being a dictator ? | Jer 5:31 | BMyers | 199566
Hey Doc, I agree, without checks in place, a pastor, board, or congregation could easily run astray. It is hard for me to speak outside of my own church, because my first hand knowledge of other churches is limited. I have attended the same church for almost 38 years. Good checks and balances need to be in place. Yet I attempt to error on the side of caution when it comes to challenging the leadership of the church. Not because I'm afraid, but because these people, pastor included, have accepted the responsibility for the position. At the same time, I'm constantly comparing their actions to the Bible to make sure they are following Biblical standards. I have seen my own church struggle over what I would term "silly" things (yes I know they were important to the people involved, but in the grand scheme of things, they truly had no eternal value and did nothing to build up the kingdom of God). This is why I always tell anyone to pray and then prayer some more before dealing with a conflict. I'm one of these head strong people that will fight you tooth-n-nail just to prove that I'm right. I've had to pray a LOT to ask the Lord to work on softening that extreme. There are times and situations that call for immediate and direct action, but most call for pray and allowing the Holy Spirit to work first before I open my big mouth. Well time to head off to work. God Bless, Brad |

140 | why do singles think they need a mate? | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 199206
Yes, I read the chapter you are referring to which is a chapter dealing with marriage and relationships. Your original question was why do singles think they need a 'mate' when they get saved? Once again, I don't feel every single thinks this away. I know some that are perfectly happy without a spouse and feel fulfilled. They live an active productive life in the church and are valuable members of our church body. Yes, with marriage comes some additional 'burdens' a single person doesn't have. This is stated in the scripture. Yet also with marriage, comes some blessings that a single person will never have, such as children. Do people get married for the wrong reason? Yes. I will address my own marriage, my wife and I dated for about four years before we got married. We didn't rush anything, we let our relationship grow, we have a beautiful daughter and we have been happily married for 13 years. As we have both grown closer to the Lord, our relationship has grown closer to each other. I feel that you can be productive, happy, and fulfilled Christian married or single. Each will have challenges. Paul does say if you aren't up to the challenge of lust, then get married. Sex isn't a bad thing, it is a beautiful thing for a married couple. Maybe someone else can help answer your question, because I guess I'm just having a hard time grasping what you are trying to get at or searching for? |
