121 | Could somebody please give me commentary | John 3:8 | Shelly | 10128
This is what my NIV Bible life application notes say: 3:8 Jesus explained that we cannot control the work of the Holy Spirit. He works in ways we cannot predict or understand. Just as you did not control your physical birth, so you cannot control your spiritual birth. It is a gift from God through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16; 1 Cor. 2:10-12; 1 Thes. 1:5, 6). |

123 | Kindly explain? | John 5:19 | Shelly | 19296
My NIV Bible Study notes say: John 5:19-23 Because of his unity with God, Jesus lived as God wanted him to live. Because of our identification with Jesus, we must honor him and live as he wants us to live. The questions "What would Jesus do?" and "What would Jesus have me do?" may help us make the right choices. |

126 | What is required for Salvation? | John 17:3 | Shelly | 140057
Romans 10:9-10 [9] That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Jesus said, in Luke 13:5 "I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." |

127 | what are letters above jesus on the cros | John 19:19 | Shelly | 93847
NIV John 19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. NIV Study notes: 19:19 This sign was meant to be ironic. A king, stripped nearly naked and executed in public view, had obviously lost his kingdom forever. But Jesus, who turns the world's wisdom upside down, was just coming into his kingdom. His death and resurrection would strike the deathblow to Satan's rule and would establish Jesus' eternal authority over the earth. Few people reading the sign that bleak afternoon understood its real meaning, but the sign was absolutely true. All was not lost. Jesus was King of the Jews--and the Gentiles, and the whole universe. |

128 | What was the day of penecost? | Acts 2:1 | Shelly | 116960
NIV Study Bible notes: Acts 2:1 Held 50 days after Passover, Pentecost was also called the Feast of Weeks. It was one of three major annual feasts (Deut. 16:16), a festival of thanksgiving for the harvested crops. Jesus was crucified at Passover time, and he ascended 40 days after his resurrection. The Holy Spirit came 50 days after the resurrection, ten days after the ascension. Jews of many nations gathered in Jerusalem for this festival. Thus Peter's speech (2:14 ff) was given to an international audience, and it resulted in a worldwide harvest of new believers--the first converts to Christianity. |

129 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | Shelly | 69156
Yes, we are sinners - no one is perfect. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 1 John 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. |

130 | What's Paul describing in Rom.7:13-25? | Rom 7:15 | Shelly | 4992
(7:15). Paul found himself sinning in ways that weren't even attractive to him. (3) Becoming a Christian does not stamp out all sin and temptation from a person's life (7:22-25). Being born again takes a moment of faith, but becoming like Christ is a lifelong process. |

131 | Saved by Grace | Rom 10:9 | Shelly | 53784
No. Satan knows that God became flseh, dies and rose again, bt that does not make him saved. Romans 10:9-10 says: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. |

132 | when is someone saved? | Rom 10:9 | Shelly | 58801
It is not with just believing - the devil 'believes in' Jesus, but certainly does not follow him. Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." |

133 | what does this mean in layman terms | Rom 12:1 | Shelly | 38430
12:1 B. HOW TO BEHAVE (12:1-16:27) Moving from the theological to the practical, Paul gives guidelines for living as a redeemed people in a fallen world. We are to give ourselves to Christ as living sacrifices, obey the government, love our neighbors, and take special care of those who are weak in the faith. He closes with personal remarks. Throughout this section, we learn how to live our faith each day. 12:1 When sacrificing an animal according to God's law, a priest would kill the animal, cut it in pieces, and place it on the altar. Sacrifice was important, but even in the Old Testament God made it clear that obedience from the heart was much more important (see 1 Samuel 15:22; Psalm 40:6; Amos 5:21-24). God wants us to offer ourselves, not animals, as 'living' sacrifices--daily laying aside our own desires to follow him, putting all our energy and resources at his disposal and trusting him to guide us. We do this out of gratitude that our sins have been forgiven. 12:1, 2 God has good, pleasing, and perfect plans for his children. He wants us to be transformed people with renewed minds, living to honor and obey him. Because he wants only what is best for us, and because he gave his Son to make our new lives possible, we should joyfully give ourselves as living sacrifices for his service. |

135 | Who says do not smoke? | Rom 12:1 | Shelly | 38433
lots of people. Why is it that so many people, when they get saved, they give up smoking? Not because they are told to by anyone, but because they now feel in their spirit that it is wrong. |

136 | this is from John 6:55-56 | 1 Corinthians | Shelly | 84421
Jesus was not talking about literal blood, of course. He was saying that his life had to become their own, but they could not accept this concept. The apostle Paul later used the body and blood imagery in talking about communion (see 1 Cor. 11:23-26). 1 Cor. 11:23-26 [23] For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, [24] and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." [25] In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." [26] For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. |

137 | Was man created for fellowship with God? | 1 Cor 1:9 | Shelly | 124278
1 Cor. 1:9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. 2 Cor. 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 1 John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. |

140 | Does God have rules on sex in marriage? | 1 Cor 6:9 | Shelly | 74843
My husband and I have been married for 21 years, and as fas as we're concerned, God designed that part of the body for a totally different purpose. I don't think you will actually find the answer written in the Bible, and likewise, the Bible doesn't tell you everything about life, eg. what will happen if you stick your finger in a power point, or what will happen if you lie down under a moving elephant. A lot of things in life need a 'commonsense' approach, or even better, a bit of thought beforehand. Most actions in life have consequences in life, some good, some bad. Also, as a general rule, if something is right, you'll know in your heart it's right. If you have doubts about something, it's usually wrong, so I wouldn't do it. |
