121 | Romans 12:17 | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 119799
Hi, jessica21! Paul is talking to believers (Christians) his admonishions are about the visual representation of Christ. True we are not to care about the world (Jesus said--paraphrased--"do not fear those who can only take your life (harm your physicall existence), rather fear God, who can not only take your life but also your spirit (spiritual existence)... But Paul is worried about how we are seen by the world (both other believers and non-believers alike)... Since not everyone is on the same level of understanding and devotion we are to teach, through example, those who are weaker in the faith and those who are reverting... then there are the initiates (just awaken to the faith) and the non-believers, how can we bring them to Christ if our behavior is as the world's: for you are still living by your natural inclinations. As long as there are jealousy and rivalry among you, that surely means that you are still living by your natural inclinations and by merely human principles. (1 Corinthians 3:3) Paul desire is that we learn to bring others to Christ through love and humility: It is all to bind them together in love and to encourage their resolution until they are rich in the assurance of their complete understanding and have knowledge of the mystery of God in which all the jewels of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. (Colossians 2:2) God Bless! Angel |

122 | Did Jesus actually crown his mother? | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 120109
Hi, cherylmartel! There is an ancient tradition where the mother of the king would be crowned as the queen mother and Revelation 12 refers to a woman in Heaven wearing a crown of twelve stars... Sometimes an artist's depiction is lost in the translation and mixed in with the truth. Is the Mona Lisa truly an outstanding depiction of beauty?--a simple play on words: Mona is Spanish for female monkey; Lisa is Spanish for plain--Plain Monkey? And don't ask the French who's the funniest comediant of all times (unless you really like Jerry Lewis's old movies!). Our perspective changes according the the view angle! God Bless! Angel |

123 | what is worship,what is praise | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 120777
Hi, ministermay! To worship is to offer adoration, hence the command to worship the Lord our God, only Him are we to worship. To praise is to honor or admire--it could be a form of worship rendered to God Almighty; but it is commonly used on our daily life as we greet our friends/relatives offering phrases of honor or acknowledgement. We do have to be careful not to overly praise people or things as it could turn to a form of worship! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, kesi! I have additional passages that tell us that Jesus is the Son of God: ...Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death, but it is for God's glory so that through it the Son of God may be glorified.' (John 11:4) Others are: John: 3:18; 5:25, 28 Mark: 1:1, 3:12 Luke: 1:39 John: 1:34, 49; 6:69; 9:35; 19:7; 20:31 God Bless! Angel |

125 | The Lord's supper or communion | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 122292
Hi, dwilde! Just to supplement Emmaus' post: The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16) Whenever you eat this bread, then, and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until he comes. Therefore anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. (1 Corinthians 11:26-27) It is clear by Paul's statements that we are not just to gather together and partake of the Lord as we feel (going from one place to another, sharing in on the Lord regardless of our personal condition (spiritual standing). I find that it is most appropriate for the Church to safeguard against any abuses that might be perpetrated by the uninitiated, this includes unprepared guests and even infiltrators who might seek to desecrate the Body of Christ. God Bless! Angel |

127 | Jesus immediately after crusification. | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 122966
Hi, Four Square! Have you thought of the possibility that Jesus, as Spirit, is Omnipresent? This to me is the answer to His mysterious going-ons and His claims to being with the Father while yet being with the disciples; being dead corporally while preaching in the Spirit to those who died prior to His incarnation, death and resurrection... This is why He could say to the thief on the cross that he would be with Him, on that very day, in Paradise... It is also the reason why He tells Mary not to touch Him because He has not yet ascended to the Father and yet later on He tells Thomas to place his fingers in His wounds (which implies that He had ascended to the Father!)... Now, notice Matthew 27:45-53... many of God's people who had died rose to life, left the graves but did not enter the Holy City till Christ rose from death! There's not a single word about this behavior, could they have been preached to by Christ, in the Spirit, and have gotten some order to wait for his return (as the disciples did for Pentecost) or could they have simply risen with a higher level of spirituality and innately had understood that they needed to wait till Christ was risen before they would be allowed to enter the Holy City? God is Omnipresent, so is the Word! God Bless! Angel |

128 | did Jesus do something to children when | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 124186
Hi, LSmith! Have you seen any of the movies dealing with animals... we tend to project our emotions and prejudices on them (i.e.: a shark that catches a glimpse of someone who kills his mate and hunts him down with human assassin's skills and determination)... this same thing happens with Jesus! His public life did not begin till he was about 30 years old; then, only after being prompted by his mother did He reveal His true self (John 2:3-4)--my hour has not yet come! This is the only indication that Jesus began to perform miracles--had He done otherwise, He would not have been recognized as the son of the carpenter but as the miracle boy! God Bless! Angel |

129 | Was the Trinity split | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 127914
Hi, tgc! Just recently I was channel surfing... I discovered yet another theory of creation... it seems that it was not 2 crazy ole masses that collided... what truly happend, according to these masterminds, is that 2 brains (yes, 2 brains) were so juiced up that they travel through space collided and created all that exists! Peter speaks on these men, and the ones you mentioned, in 2 Peter 3: 2 Peter 3:1-17 The Day of the Lord Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. The "new thing" is to reinvent Scripture, but we know that the Holy Scripture is a product of the Holy Spirit and there is no personal revelations from the Holy Spirit, especially revelations that contradict Scripture! (2 Peter 1:20-21) Who ever attempts to divide, categorize or set limitations to the Holy Trinity are bordering on blasphemy! From the beginning God said I AM--where is the division or sublevel in I AM? God Bless! Angel |

130 | Pastor Wife being in Church with him! | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 129303
Hi, Wilton! You cannot find Scripture that speaks on this subject because when the New Testament books and letters were written "new age" Christianity was not in practice... we live in a disposable society that prescribes to "choice," the all encompassing and all liberating utopia, in order to render even Christ's Word subjective: that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (John 17:21-23) So we experience complete unity in separation as we each (Christians) seek to be one with Christ while worshipping separate, even from our spouses and/or children! God Bless! Angel |

131 | Infant Baptism | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 129877
Hi, Cariad! Part 1 of 3 Following is an except from one of my previous posts on baptism: "Peter said, ‘Ananias, how can Satan have so possessed you that you should lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land? While you still owned the land, wasn’t it yours to keep, and after you had sold it wasn’t the money yours to do with as you liked? What put this scheme into your mind? You have been lying not to men, but to God.’ (Acts 5:3-4) Clearly, Peter never heard Jesus say that the Holy Spirit is God--well not in those precise words! But Peter and the rest of the disciples did hear Jesus say that the Holy Spirit, whom the world cannot receive, will come to the believers and will make his abode, along the Father and the Son, in us! Peter believed that we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit is God! The flawed view that exacts that Biblical text must reveal everything in the particular formula and the precise wording that we seek has curtailed our spiritual growth and has limited us to the finite understanding of the Scriptures. This is why there are those who profess to be “Christians” while simultaneously rejecting Christ as their Lord since they seek to divorce Christ from His Divinity. Still, that same flawed view keeps others from believing in the Holy Trinity--their main argument is that the word “trinity” is not written in the Bible! This fallacy is so entrenched in their minds (and possibly egos) that they refuse to accept any Biblical teachings that demonstrate that God exists in three Divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! (John 14:16-17, 23; Matthew 10:19; 1 Corinthians 12:3, 12:4-11...) As attested by the hundreds of denominational congregations (and the number keeps rising) our finite understanding seeks to adapt the Bible to the world's doctrines; sadly, those young in the Faith digest anything that is professed as innovative--regardless of the reason behind the phenomena or the lack of adherence to the Word of God. It seems that all reason/logic is thrown out and that the mere pursuit of novelty is its own reward! We may not want to believe what the Word says and the Scriptures may not reveal everything in an unabridged format, but, if we yield our will to God’s, the Holy Spirit, Wisdom and generosity combined, reveals to us everything we need to know--as He desires us to come to understanding! 1 Corinthians 15:29 Otherwise, what are people up to who have themselves baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, what is the point of being baptized on their behalf? (Personal Bible) New International Version (NIV) 29Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? New American Standard Bible (NASB) 29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? Amplified Bible (AMP) 29Otherwise, what do people mean by being [themselves] baptized in behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? New Living Translation (NLT) 29If the dead will not be raised, then what point is there in people being baptized for those who are dead? Why do it unless the dead will someday rise again? King James Version (KJV) 29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? English Standard Version (ESV) 29Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? I am not a linguist nor do I have access to copies the original text (scrolls), but from reading 1 Corinthians 15:29 (which ever version you prefer) I can only conclude that there were believers being baptized on the behalf of their dead loved ones; and, again from this verse, I surmise that the Apostles were not only aware of this particular practice but they did not prohibit the performance of these baptisms since the Biblical passage speaks on the assertion of the resurrection and not against the practice of baptism on behalf of the dead!" |

132 | Infant Baptism | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 129879
(Correction: two parts only) Part 2 of 2 Clearly, early Christians thought that it was important to receive the sacrament of baptism, why would they forbid their children from being baptised? There are those who are opposed to infant baptism basing their claim on their "non-Biblical" stance... there are those who reject the Holy Trinity and they use the same argument! When Jesus was checked for curing a man on Sabbath (the day of rest) He did not coward down but proceeded to heal the man: and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” He said to them, "If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick, (Matthew 12:10-15) Jesus made them see that they did not circumvent God's commandment when they served God on the Sabbath, yet the Pharisees, stubbornly, refused to acquiesce and they began to formulate the means to kill Jesus--these people, who broke any Law they pleased whenever it was convenient or profitable to them, wanted to kill Jesus because He did an act of kindness! These same people who reject infant baptism as "non-Biblical" cannot produce Biblical support for the specific chronological age of a person which Christ, the Holy Spirit or the Apostles established! "Christians" get so involved in proving or disproving arguments about Biblical text or the absence of exact text, that we lose sight of what Jesus commanded: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35) In our zealousness to be Scriptural we limit ourselves to the letter of the text and we engage all others who do not see things in our vision of Biblical interpretation... thusly we reject Christ and His desire that we be one: "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-21) We must learn to live in the Spirit and Wisdom of God (being led by the Holy Spirit) and not in our own wisdom and complacency (being led by our will and ego)! God Bless! Angel |

134 | Doesn't NT forbid all images-somewhere? | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 132134
Hi, Student! The New Testament reinforces the teaching against idol worship... this in itself reflects back to the Ten Commandments... but we must understand this in light of Scripture... to drive in the US most state require a photo-driver's license... in effect that is an image! Does that mean that all Christians in the US must circumvent the law and drive without a license? There are ladies and gentlemen who spend endless hours grooming themselves so that they look "just right" when they go out... I've even met a family whose members refused to answer the door unless they were fully dress in suitable attire... though they claimed that they were doing it for the Lord, their charity was feigned because they did not care that their visitors would have to wait about till they decided that they looked properly enough to receive them... these are examples of idolatry--still, no graven images had been made... the idol worship was being done in a suttle, and perhaps in an unconscious way! Some groups hold on to the idea that it is sacrilegious to make, have or display any image (including Christ';s depiction on the Cross), and yet they have no problem with the mass murder of infants and other innocent life... they uphold the letter of the text to extreme compulsion yet they applaud the destruction of those created in the image and likeness of the Lord of Life! It is worshipping of idols (be it image, statue, person, animal, wealth, health, intelligence, physical attributes, race, ethnicity, religious icon, Bible...) that is forbidden not the use of utensils, drawings, photographs, songs, buildings... When we read the Old Testament, we find very specific Commands from Yahweh about the manufacturing of certain utensils and worshipping aides (such as the altars and cherubs)... none were deemed graven images or idols... even the dress for the priest had a particular design/s, and the incense was to be of a particular mixture that was to remain for the exclusive use of temple worship--none were in themselves to be worshipped... rather, they were to facilitate certain atmosphere of worship! The second that we place anything or anyone above God... that is idolatry, that is worshipping the creature instead of the Creator! God Bless! Angel |

137 | Was Jesus God? | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 149276
Hi! I found it somewhat bemusing that a person with a screen name that suggest that knowledge of Scripture would ask such question... "Was Jesus God?" No! Jesus IS God! John tells us that the Word was with God and that the Word is God... that all that exist was created by Him and that He is the Light of the world, the Life incarnate which came to His own, upon their rejection He gave all who believe in Him the power to become children of God. (John 1;1-14) Yahweh testifies, through His prophets, that Joshua, Christos, the Anointed, is coming to the world and that He is the Emmanuel (God-with-us--which is an ancient prophecy made by God that He will come and walk/live among His people)... among His other titles are: "Mighty God," "Eternal Father," and "Prince of Piece!" Jesus was called Master (Rabbi or Rabbuni) and even those who rejected Him would still recognize that He spoke the truth and that His teaching had full authority... so it is not difficult to understand that His disciples and those who would hear Him were able to understand that there was someone greater than themselves among them... yet even those who did not know Him that intimately undestood that He was God: Elizabeth (and her son), Mary's relative (Luke 1:39-44), the magi (Matthew 2:1-11), Satan (Matthew 4:1-11), Satan's minions (Mark 5:1-13), His disciples (Matthew 16:16; 28:9; 14:33; John 16:25-30; 20:20), the Father (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; Luke 3:22; Hebrews 1:8-12), the Father's Heavenly servants (Revelatin 5:7-14), and finally the Father and the Son (Revelation 21:3-6; 22:12 and 1:7-18)... It was no simple revelation that Christ made when He told His disciples that when they have seen Him they've seen the Father... the Father and the Son are inseparable, how can we expect to serve the One sitting on the Throne and not the One next to Him? The four living creatures, the elders and the angels make no exception because they know that God is God and that there's no subdivision in the Eternal One! (Revelation 21:22 thru 22:5) God Bless! Angel |

138 | Forgive but don't forget | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 149578
Hi, 3cooks! There's no such Scripture! Just like God helps those who help themselves or money being the root of all evil... much of the sentiment is Biblical but the words have been diluted or altered... When a repentant sinner comes to God asking for forgiveness, God does not make a list of the sins/acts committed, He simply looks into the person's mind and spirit and discerns that person's veracity... once forgiven God will not recall the sin nor hold it over the repentant's head... That's how God is: 18 "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; 20 but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. (Isaiah 1:18-20) 21 "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. 22 None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live. 23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? 24 "But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die. (Ezekiel 18:21-24) God desires our fellowship, and though He is a vengeful God, He is not a petty God: He is able to forgive and forget! Jesus called us to emulate Him and He gave us a little window on how we are to proceed in God: "...forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us..." Can we forgive and forget? The spirit is willing but the body may not allow it!... yet, if we allow Jesus Christ to rule us, the Holy Spirit would make it a blank slate every time that we forgive others... it is how we should behave! We must forgive as we want God to forgive us... the same mercy that we employ will be measured onto us by God... the same love... the same judgment... the same apathy... the same empathy... Jesus, when asked by Peter how many times we should forgive told him not 7 times but 70 times 7 (...by the time we calculate past the x amount we would have forgotten how many times and just go on emulating our Heavenly Father!); remember the old adage... "practice..." God Bless! Angel |

139 | Christains already Saints | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 150224
Hi, regguh! Christians are already saints... in the sense that they strive to live in perfection (Christ's)... however, today's believers differ from the early Church's believers in that we mostly seek shortcuts and they mostly sought to live in Christ... so it was a simple thing to hear Peter, Paul or John call themselves saints or call the others saints... not because they thought that they were more spiritually advanced than others but because they lived the Word... and when an issue arose, they did not allow error to proliferate into subcultures and schisms... When we gather (2 or 3) Jesus should be among us... but today we find that Christian gather and split... gather and criticize... gather and complaint... gather and embrace secularism... gather and embrace polytheism... gather and distort Scripture... gather and celebrate the alteration of the Word of God... Clearly, we are called to be holy by the Holy One... clearly, we are falling short (as a body) of the Body of Christ! The Catholic Church's view of saints is that those who live the Word and worked for the Kingdom emulating and serving Christ are exemplary members of the Body of Christ and they are rendered as proof that man can obey God and live according to His Will! God Bless! Angel |

140 | Should Christians feel Guilty | NT general Archive 1 | JCrichton | 152144
Hi! Some people show signs of remorse once they get caught doing something (check daily news and the various "mia culpa" people...); the problem with "feelings" of remorse/guilt is that of a child that does not yet reason that sound travels and brakes the very thing/s which he/she was worned not to touch just minutes or seconds ago... as a rule, before the very first words are spoken, the child starts to cry (or justify if older and "wiser")... Can a Christian feel guilty?... everyone does! The difference is what do we do about it? Are we so proud that we cast all things out, in essense, exenorating ourselves from any negative feeling that may compel us to seek Jesus' forgiveness and to make restitution--where possible--for our transgressions? Check Jesus words concerning a pending grievance: 23"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24) Notice how Christ is not even concerned with "who started it" or "who is wrong/right?" He Commands the Believer to reconcile him/herself to his/her brotheren! We cannot reconcile ourselves with those we have transgresses against if there's no sort of restitution (spiritual, monetary, symbolic, emotional...) However, if we simply choose to claim the old "sorry" or "my bad" and simply move on cause Christ already did everything for us... are we truly owning up to our responsibility as Christians? Are we humbly obeying the Lord? Are we truly children of God--when we seek to circumvent God's Command and use Scripture to free ourselves from any "guilt/remorse" feeling and from any obligation to provide adequate and time restitution? God Bless! Angel |
