3 | What is your take on Westcott and Hort? | Not Specified | mark d seyler | 124303
I've been following the discussion regarding KJV vs. other translations. There has been a lot of good material presented. What is your take on the Westcott and Hort Greek New Testament. How widely used has this NT been in translating our modern versions. What about Westcott and Hort's well documented disdain for God's Word, and their background in the occult? I absolutely believe the infallability of God's Word, and that He will protect it against tampering, and will maintain the integrity of His message.
4 | Were angels created on day 2 or 3? | Not Specified | mark d seyler | 128720
Ps 104: 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2 Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. 3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; 4 He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers. 5 He established the earth upon its foundations, So that it will not totter forever and ever. 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains. 7 At Your rebuke they fled, At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away. Job 38:4 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding, 5 Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on it? 6 "On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy? On the first day, God created light, and separated the light from the dark. Gen 1:3-5 On the second day, God created an expanse in the midst of the waters, Gen 1:6-8 On the third day, God gathered the waters below heaven, and dry land appeared. Gen 1:9-10 God tells Job that the angels were there when He laid the foundation of the earth. Psalm 104 parallels the creation, with vs. 2 the first day, the creation of light, vs. 3 the second day, “lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters”, and vs. 5-7 the appearing of dry land. In between vss. 3 and 5, it seems to be speaking of the creation of the angels after or at the end of the 2nd day, but prior to “establishing the earth on its foundations”. Does anyone have any comments on this? Love in Christ, Mark |

5 | eisegesis and exogesis? | Not Specified | mark d seyler | 145105
How does typology fit within the realm of eisegesis and exogesis. I hear some forum members speak of eisegesis as something not be be done, but where is the line to be drawn? In Genesis 22, for example, it seems perfectly obvious that there is the comparison to be drawn between Abraham and our Heavenly Father, and between Isaac and Jesus, yet nothing in the text actually says this. If I understand the term correctly, eisegesis is to read into the text something that is not actually written. But isn't this sometimes correct to do? What do you think? |

Why do you suppose we choose some questions that have already been asked to just answer, and some questions that have already been asked to use as a launching pad for sarcastic chat-room posts? With over 100,000 posts on this site, would it be fair to say that probibily 80 percent or more of the questions people ask have been asked before? Is it beyond our grasp to think that we might consistantly answer in love and respect? |

Note to all Forum users - When you write a post, whether a question, answer or note, press the submit button ONLY ONCE. Otherwise you will create multiple entries of the same post. This is particularly confusing when you ask a question, because it usually results in more than one thread being created for the same question. This makes it difficult for even seasoned users to follow the sequence of answers and notes involving your question and well nigh impossible for newcomers to follow. So please remember, press the submit button only once and be patient while your submission is being processed. ...... PLEASE DON'T RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE BUT LET IT STAND FOR A FEW DAYS IN ORDER TO GIVE ALL CURRENT USERS A CHANCE TO SEE IT. --Hank (repost)

13 | Properly Interpreting the Bible | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 158932
Hi Tim, I look at this word the same as you do, although there is one place I haven't been able to reconcile, and perhaps you might have an insight to share. In Revelation 13:16 "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:" It seems that not everyone will actually receive the mark, because there will be "sheep" which Jesus will separate from the "goats" after He appears. Do you have any thoughts on this? Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Tim, That's a good point. I think then that I will do a word study of poiew (translated causes) to see if there are other scriptures that have the translation of something like "begins to do", or "sets out to do", which would fit with what you are saying. Thank you for for input! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Bronx, There is a scriptural command to remember the cross, or more specifically, the work Jesus did on the cross. Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 1 Cor 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed too bread; 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. We are to identify ourselves with Jesus' death, because His death was our death, and we mustn't forget that. Phi 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Jesus' obedience to the death of the cross is our example for Christian living. Any discussion of how we life the Christian life must ultimately be centered on Jesus, on His life, death, and resurrection. His death allows us to be forgiven. His death is exemplifies His life. I, for one, do not see how we could, or why we would, exclude Jesus' death upon the cross from our thoughts, conversation, study, and teaching. Jesus said "If any man would be My disciple, let him deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow Me." We do not leave the cross behind us, we make it our own. God bless you! Love in Christ, Mark |
