1 | Quries about Christmas? | NT general | Wild Olive Shoot | 211781 | ||
Dear JB, Welcome to the forum. I don’t know; Luke chapter 2 appears to be pretty convincing evidence do you not agree? The holiday many celebrate as Christmas, though admittedly it has become more commercial than anything, is and was in its essence, recognition of His birth. Is there another day, beside His crucifixion and resurrection that was so important in God’s redemptive plan for His own? He had to be born in order to fulfill His promise because that is what He declared. He’s a wonderful and wise God. The birth of Christ was first declared by God (Genesis 3:15), foretold by God’s chosen prophets (Isaiah 9:6, Psalms72:17, Micah 5:2), announced by angels (Luke 2;10, 11, Matthew 1:20, 21), despised by the devil ( Matthew 2:13) and longed for by many (Genesis 49:18, Isaiah 25:9). If you choose to honor Him by recognizing His birth on what we call Christmas day, you are in good company. If you choose not to due to lack of biblical evidence, you are also in good company. This question intrigues me every year, every time I see it. Christmas is a personal choice. You either choose to honor God on this day by recognizing the incarnation, the birth of our Savior, or you choose to honor God on this day in recognition of something else or nothing at all. As for me, it is another day to attempt in some way to give Him the glory He deserves. Yes I put up a tree, I surely don’t worship it. I exchange gifts. I surely don’t think this somehow diminishes my witness. I sing carols, well mostly just hum them; my voice isn’t nearly as beautiful as some of the words used in them that express adoration of our Savior and God. And I make sure those I have a chance to witness to, especially my children, understand what it is we are actually acknowledging; The grace of God in giving us a Savior. Historically you can investigate and see approximately when and where “Christmas the holiday celebrated on December 25th” came to be. But biblically what it recognizes is a very important piece of God’s redemptive plan. So long as your heart is truly guiltless before God with faith in His Son, do whatever glorifies Him. Do it often. Do it on December 25th or on February 24th. Even better yet, how about each and every day between and including and then some. Those who refuse to worship and honor God on December 25th claiming it is because of its pagan origin, simply miss a day to worship and honor God. What do we gain in that? Arguably nothing and I would venture to say we actually lose. I’m thankful for our Savior. Without His birth, where would we be? Still longing and with less hope I imagine. We see God kept His promise in giving a Savior. We now know He will keep His promise with His return. Stand in His grace, WOS |

Amen WOS! Choose not to honor God on any day for any reason and all you have done is gratified the enemy! he has won the battle and the loser is the one who was so easily deceived by him. God will still be glorified by those who love and adore Him and by His heavenly host! He reigns because He is King, He is Lord, He is God and there is no day that should pass that we not honor and worship Him! Steve |
