When speaking of "WATER BAPTISM", once is enough, but I know of no place in Scripture where it is prohibited to be baptized more than that. Several people are baptized at least once more if they are given the chance to be baptized in the Jordan River in Israel. As water baptism is an outward sign of an inward work, one is dead to sin and death and reborn to life (Romans 6:3-4). John the Baptist, or baptizer, began using baptism as a "symbolic washing" and repentance (Matthew 3). Jesus himself gave us an example when He went to John the baptist to be baptized. Interesting to note in this passage in Matthew 3:13-17, I believe this is the only place in scripture where the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all present in some degree at the same time. Jesus, the Son of God emerges from the water; the Holy Spirit descending upon Him; and the Father speaks out of Heaven. As with everything, the Lord looks upon the motive of our hearts. If there is some reason you feel the "need" to be water baptized again, that is between you and the Lord. If you have a "desire" to show your commitment to Him by being baptized again, I'm quite sure He would smile. Submitted with Love |

Hi BobbyF, My challenge to you is twofold: 1. Why would one want to be baptized more than once? 2. How does 1 Cor. 12:13 enter into this? "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." I guess I'm missing the biblical link that shows my commitment to Him by being baptized again! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hey BradK, Not sure why someone would want to be baptized more than once, why don't you ask jonny-b. I was only trying to give a Biblical answer. Do you find Scripture forbidding more than one water baptism? I have known a few people who were baptized as infants and felt the need or desire to be baptized as adults. I have also known people who spent a few years, shall we say in a backsliden state, who desired to be baptized again as a sign of a new committment to Christ. As far as your reference to 1 Cor. 12:13, I see no relevence to the question, other than it mentions the word "baptism". |

Hi BobbyF, I think the shortest answer to your question would be the prerequisite for water baptism which doesn’t imply infants or adults but a personal understanding of the person and work of Jesus the Christ. Acts 8:36-37 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? [37] And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The Scripture doesn’t expatiate on the age for baptism but the ability to comprehend exactly who Jesus is and what he did as the Messiah. Have a great day, CDBJ |
