Greetings John! I would call to your attention that I did specifically exclude false doctrine and moral failings. These are issues which must not be allowed! :-) I would agree that the best course of action for someone who is 'uncomfortable' in any church, regardless of the reason, is to prayerfully consider going to a church more in line with your theology and/or sensibilities. However, most simply stay in the church and spread discontent. :-( They go to someone else and share their 'prayer' concern about how the pastor is failing in such and such an area. They point out how things used to be so different. You get the point! :-) Just out of curiosity, what was the false doctrine that was being taught? If you are free to share it, of course! "what was the false doctrine that was being taught?" The Pastor had become enthralled with the teaching that came out of the Vineyard movement. He longed for a "Laughing Revival" to manifest itself at his church as well. The worship sevices, which had been joyful, began to become frenzied as the "worship team" whipped the congregation to greater heights of emotional out-pouring. He also(from the pulpit) praised Ken Copeland and Benny Hinn as "great men of God". As to the teaching being overtly heretical, perhaps I went too far. In retrospect it may have been more hysterical than heretical. It seemed that God was always changing the sermon on him. At least that was his claim. "God told me this and God told me that" was a constant refrain. I called him to express my concern over recommending men of such dubious theology and pointed out some of their more outlandish teaching. His reply to me was to "eat the meat and spit out the bones". I resigned my membership in the church and God blessed us with a sound church and pastor. We sought membership and after a six week instruction on the teaching of the church, and upon confessing our total reliance on Christ before the congregation, we were recieved into local body of Christ at Desert Springs Presbyterian Church of America. God has been extremely gracious to my wife and I, who neither deserve nor merit His blessings. Soli Deo Gloria! John |
