Hi EdB- I think you are on some shaky ground. First off, as followers of Christ we are called to share the gospel and be able to have a defense of our faith. One can have passion and zeal for the lost but that doesn't change the fact that salvation is God's work. We can share our testimonies, and passionately do all of the things that you suggested in your answer to the question but that does not change the fact that God is still the author of salvation. Even with the slickest and most passionate gospel presentation there will still be some who will not believe. Second, how can you possibly make a judgement about a fellow christian's experience with God? Perhaps you could come to a better conclusion with someone who you know intimately. But to make that statement about someone you have only met in "cyberspace" seems to be a HUGE leap and highly innapropriate. Figgy |

Dear Ed, It seems as if Figgy dis-agrees with your characterization of me. Of course her perspective may be prejudiced by her love for her cold, old father. :-) John |

John You and I both know it was not a characterization. I admire a daughter defending her dad even if it wasn't needed. EdB |

Dear Ed, I appreciate your reply. If I strike you as unemotional, it is because I have been praying for God's gift of self-control. It is not easy for me to read some of the things that have been said about what I believe and in the past I have re-acted emotionally. The forum has been a wonderfull experience for me. I have had a chance to share my view of Scripture with christians from a wide range of traditions. In truth, I have learned a great deal from many who hold different views as well. I have also learned a few things about myself. One of those things was that I have in the past been far more interested in what my response would be, rather than the content of the question or note I was responding to. It was my own frustration with posts from others who did not bother to REALLY read what I had written that opened my own eyes!..."Take the log out of your own eye..." came to mind. The fact is that I am a very emotional guy. I cry when we sing "Rock of Ages" at church! I identify so much with the words of the old hymn: Not the labor of my hands Can fulfill Thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to the cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die. Thanks Again, John |

John Emotions has very little to do with it. I think you know what I'm talking about in your relationship with Christ. Let us not pursue this any further. I think what I say was valid if not then fantastic, but let us not debate this on a public forum. EdB |
