The belief that the two passages you mention represent seperate creation events is called the "Two Creation Theory." It stems from the assumption that the scripture is always chronological in nature. The correct interpretation -- in my opinion -- is that Genesis 1 is a thumbnail sketch of creation. Genesis zeros in on the beginning of the God's redemptive story. I hope that helps a bit. | ||||||
