Bible Question:
In Genesis 1:27, God creates man in His(The Father, Son and Holy Spirit)own image. He created them male and female, and in Genesis 1:28, God blessed them and told them to be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth and have domain over all creatures in the sea, of the air and all that moved upon the earth. This on the sixth day. Then in Genesis 2:7, God forms man(Adam) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath (or) spirit of life and man(Adam) became a living being. My question is- Who were the male and female God created in Genesis 1:27-28? Who was the male and female God blessed and told them to be fruitful, multiply and gave them dominion over all other creatures of the earth? I thought Adam was the first man God created and Eve the first woman. Please explain. Thank you. |
Bible Answer: The belief that the two passages you mention represent seperate creation events is called the "Two Creation Theory." It stems from the assumption that the scripture is always chronological in nature. The correct interpretation -- in my opinion -- is that Genesis 1 is a thumbnail sketch of creation. Genesis zeros in on the beginning of the God's redemptive story. I hope that helps a bit. |
