Rowdy Yes I think you have fallen into the trap. First there is no place that says Jesus and God were ever separated. Jesus hanging on the cross cried "My God My God why have you forsaken me?" This is quote of Psalm 22:1. I believe it was said for two reasons. First showing his humanity he cried out much as David did when he wrote the verse but even David knew God had not left him. Secondly Jesus being God and having a love for us used this verse to remind all hearers that Psalm 22 was written that prophesied this exactly scene. It was yet one more attempt to show everyone that truly this was the Son of God and was fulfilling yet another prophecy. Now the question remains did God leave him or not? Verse 24 of that same Psalm shows the truth. Psalm 22:24 “ For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.” God would never leave anyone when they needed God most. When we are deepest in sin is when God extends His hand that much further to pull us out of the muck and mire. As to the other part of your question did Jesus go to prison absolutely. What is that prison? Hades. What imprisons there? Death. What did Jesus conquer? Death. Upon His death and His victory over it Jesus went to Hades which is translated Hell. And preached the Good News (as told in 1 Peter 3:18) to the righteous dead that resided in Abraham’s bosom or paradise side of Hades (you can read about this in Luke 16:19-31). He then lead captivity captive to heaven Eph 4:8. You mentioned the blackness that fell, do you know why? Read Genesis 22 the story of Abraham and Isaac. See the parallels. Abraham was told to sacrifice Isaac three days before he was given a ram to replace Isaac. To the Eastern mindset Isaac was dead to his father all that time although he was there. Isaac carried the wood Jesus carried the cross. Isaac allowed his dad to bind him and lay him upon the altar (mindful Isaac was probably a teenager and Abraham was 100 plus years old) Jesus in obedience to God allowed Himself to nailed to the cross. Abraham and Isaac were alone the servants that accompanied them waited at the bottom of the hill for their return, God made a darkness fall so he and His Son were alone. Abraham said God would provide a Lamb yet a ‘ram’ was provided, The Lamb didn’t come until 2000 years later. Incidentally Mount Moriah is the same mountain range Jerusalem and Calvary are on. God is on the throne and God has a plan His will, will be done EdB |

I can't say I agree with all of your statement but I must admit you did give me a lot to "chew on." I always learn something every time I log onto this website. Bless you, dear friend for your patience and your perseverance. Several of your points are quite powerful and I plan to use them in my next sermon on the subject. Especially powerful is the analogy between Jesus and the son, Isaac, both carrying wood for their own sacrifice and Mount Moriah on the same mountain range. That's heavy. God bless. --Rowdy |

Rowdy Study that passage some more there is a lot of meat there. Particularly when you include a study of Middle Eastern culture and what I call the Eastern mindset. Notice also what else was carried and how this all fits together with the cross. Just as Abraham became a principal in the first covenant he also was important in prophetically drama of the second.
