.I see it like this analogy....a man may very well have many roles,or TITLES, in his life...for example,he may have roles/titles of "father","son","supervisor","coach",etc. These titles arent his true names, but they reflect the roles/jobs he has at a given moment. In the same sense, god was "father" in OT,leading his people with his presence...He became the role of the redemptive "Son" to secure our salvation...after He rose from dead and glorified,His role now till the endtime is as "Holy spirit"(or christ/God) IN us...He is same godhead of one, performing 3 separate functions to us,yet retaining His "Oneness",as the man in my analogy retains his uniqness, tho being many different titles in life.RE:"Father,Son and Holy Spirit are just "titles",they arent Gods true name...hence,Jesus says in John 1:1,He was the Word made flesh | ||||||

Dear Jim, Welcome to the forum! Actually, what you have described is a heresy known as Modalism. It is also called Sabellianism. It asserts, as you've stated, that God reveals Himself in different modes or forms. The orthodox Christian doctrine is called Trinitarianism. It asserts the Biblical teaching that God is one being eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. No, it isn't easy to explain... some things that God reveals to us aren't easy to understand at all. However, we hold those revealed things as true because we believe the Word of God. In Him, Doc |
