Tithing is mentioned in the New Testament. Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. I questioned if Tithes could be used for helping those in need. I believe tithing is important but if I read the above scripture correctly it is not one of the "the weightier matters" [most important]". I believe judgment, mercy, and faith are more important to God. We must help others, somtimes financially, which is serving God. We should also help our church to be financially secure. If you are true in your faith, lean on your heart. It will not stir you wrong when it comes to giving for the glory of God. |
